Wednesday 8 March 2023

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th March 2023.

8th March, 2023.

Yes: it’s officially Wednesday.

And?

It’s a day I’ve working up to snow … and the need to reset my boiler!

That’s the second time, this week.

One more time, I think I’ll be phoning the landlords, to see what they say.

Twice is coincidence, an’ all that!

~≈♨️≈~

You’re — possibly — aware that I have type two diabetes.

I have type two diabetes: in case you couldn’t tell.

I’m on a range of medication: including Metformin, the standard many of us get.

I’m also on Forxiga.

And, as from a few months ago?   A new medication, called Semaglutide: branded under the names, Ozempic and Wegovy.

I’m on it as it’s considered to be a powerful medication in lowering blood sugars, and — in part — because it’s also been found to help with weigh loss.

Something I know I struggle with.

It’s been mildly helpful with the weight.

But generally more helpful for the blood sugars.

The drug’s also proved newsworthy … as many celebrities have been buying it: to help them lose weight.

Something I’ve always felt a little bit resentful of.

I — and many others — need it to deal with our blood sugars: the cast of The Only Way is Essex, don’t need it at all.

They can exercise a lot more easily than I can.

At any rate … ?

It’s been announced that drug can now be used by the NHS: and prescribed to patients who’ve been on various weight management programmes, and only to patients on these programmes.

Hopefully?   That will help with the supply issues.

And mean those of us who need it are prioritised over those of us who want it.

As a FINAL though … ?

Yes: my nephew, Jude, was over, yesterday.

And, yes: a video was made.

I hope you enjoy it!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Debbi† and Mum‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)         8th March is the Feast day of Saint Felix of Burgundy.   Burgundy was in what’s now where: France, Spain or Portugal?

Q2)        Felix is also known as Felix of Dunwich.   The Dunwich in question is where: Norfolk, Suffolk or Essex?

Q3)        8th March, 1985, saw forty-five people killed in a car bombing.   A car bombing in which Lebanese city: Baalbek, Batroun or Beirut?

Q4)        Max von Sydow died on 8th March, 2020.   He played Liet Kynes, in which David Lynch film: Eraserhead, The Elephant Man or Dune?

Q5)         Finally … ?   Queen Anne ascended the throne of England: on 8th March, 1702.   When did she become Queen of Great Britain: 1707, 1708 or 1709?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The Parliament House of Finland was inaugurated on 7th March, 1931.   It’s in which Finnish city: Helsinki, Espoo or Tampere?
A1)        Helsinki.

Q2)        Six hundred protestors were attacked on 7th March, 1965: on a day known as Bloody Sunday.   This particular Bloody Sunday took place in which Alabama city: Samson, Scottsboro or Selma?
A2)        Selma.

Q3)        7th March, 2021, saw an explosion take place: in a barracks in Bata, in Equatorial Guinea.   It was blamed on badly stored what: explosives, frisbees or fertiliser?
A3)        Explosives.

Q4)        7th March, 1671, saw the birth of Scottish folk hero, Rob Roy.   What was his surname: McDonald, MacGregor or McSweeney?
A4)        MacGregor.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Kanyama Chiume — an Independence leader from Nyasaland — fled to their UK on 7th March, 1959.   Nyasaland is now called what: Malawi, Mali or Mauritius?
A5)        Malawi.
Here’s a thought …
“When I was held up, in a lift, they were up on ladders to see if I was properly covered.”
Cyd Charisse, March 8, 1922 - June 17, 2008.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Cheers, Olga: I’ve managed to update the date.   Where I got 1930 from, I don’t know!
And we’ve managed to get the refund process, started: I posted the thing, yesterday.   Wrapped in an old Sainsbury’s bag, as I had no cardboard.   The lady at the Post Office was saying that’s getting more common.
Oh, did I mention a friend and her husband spent the weekend in Barcelona?   I did ask them to keep their eyes peeled for you … but all they met was this chap …

†        It’s just a shame it’s not happening this time around, Debbi.   Mind you, Ecclestone and Capaldi have ruled out a return, Matt Smith’s filming House of the Dragon, Jodie signing up would be a bit soon … and John Hurt’s no longer with us.

Hello, Mum!   (It was Selma, not Scottsboro!)

Well, I'm sure he kept your friends entertained! Although today is the International Women's Day, I'm covering an event for the radio tomorrow. Never too late, I say!
Oh, fingers crossed with the boiler, although yes, it seems something might be wrong...
