Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19-9-2020: Talk Like a Pirate Day.

19th September, 2020.

Right …

I know that introductory video’s fairly subdued: but today is Talk Like a Pirate Day.

Just in case you didn’t know?

It’s a minor Pastafarian holiday.

Apparently?   The decline in Golden Age Pirates is responsible for global warming: therefore, talking like one will make the world cooler.

Much — I’d assume — like the Fonz.

Hey ho!

~≈¥≈~

I mentioned news, as well, didn’t I … ?

According to this piece from the BBC, a woman in a German hospital has apparently died … as a result of a ransomware attack on the hospital she was in.

She died in an ambulance on a way to another hospital: after being moved, as a result of the attack.

From what I understand, if shown that her death was a result of the attack?

It’s be a world first.

William Gibson once said “The future is already here — it’s just not very evenly distributed.”

I can only hope events like this don’t get more distribution …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Trevor† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1)    It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day.   Which ‘F’ is another term for a pirate?

Q2)    Sir Francis Drake was a commercial pirate: who worked for the English crown, under a Letter of Marque.   In other words, he was a … what?

Q3)    Pirate Bay — and other similar sites — let you pirate films: using which ‘T’?

Q4)    Captain Jack Sparrow appears in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.   Who plays Captain Jack Sparrow?

Q5)    Finally … ? Corsair is another word for pirate.   The car called the Corsair was made by the UK version of which car company?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)    18th September saw the birth of actress, Greta Garbo.   In which year?
A1)    1905.

Q2)    In which Swedish city?
A2)    Stockholm.

Q3)    Which Garbo film was advertised with the slogan, “Garbo Talks!”?
A3)    Anna Christie.   (Apparently, her first line was “Gimme a whiskey, ginger ale on the side, and don’t be stingy, baby.”)

Q4)    Many consider her performance as Marguerite Gautier to be her finest.   In which 1936 film did she play Marguerite Gautier?
A4)    Camille.

Q5)    Finally … ?   What was the name of the last film she appeared in?
A5)    Two-Faced Woman.
Here’s a thought …
“PIRACY, n. Commerce without its folly-swaddles, just as God made it.”
Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary (1911).
And a playlist

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Oh, it’s fiddly, Olga: I suspect that’s because I’ve got a lot of different things — text, videos, audio. pictures — in a post.   If some one were writing a straight forward text based post, it would be fairly straightforward.   The interface isn’t that different from Word or LibreOffice Writer.
Hmmm … It sounds like the family could afford a reasonable amount of kit: especially if the daughter’s been to a Swiss school!   I get the impression Swiss private schools are on a par with Eton or Roedean!   Either way, most computer companies do discounts: I’d imagine there’s a few other places, as well.
You might want to talk over what’s appropriate with the parents, as well!

†        I’ll have to look up Colmanballs at some point, Trevor.   Actually, I’ve been watching University Challenge: I’m grateful if I can get five questions right in an episode.

‡        Baseball and croquet, Debbi?   I don’t think croquet takes that long!   Actually?   I need my eyes testing, Debbi: I though you said crochet.      Which could make the Ashes interesting!

Yes, you're right. The girl told me the food at the Swiss School is awful, but I'm not sure the Swiss are known for their cuisine, anyway (other than chocolate and cheese...). I was mostly thinking of materials for children from the British Council and that kind of thing, but I'll run it by the mother anyway. I forgot to ask the girl yesterday about the tablet, although I'll make a note of it for next week.
Yes, you have a lot of stuff going on on your blog. I am not surprised it's complicated.

A1 Freebooter, Filibuster, Fortune hunter
A2 Privateer
A3 Torrent streaming
A4 Jonny Depp
A5 Ford

I often do well on TV Quiz shows. The general Knowledge part of Master Mind I find is great to answer.

Croquet can last a long time. Easy way to lose an afternoon or two.
