Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-2-2023 — Silly Love Songs.

14th February, 2023: Silly Love Songs.

Yes: it’s officially official.

I’m expecting an early birthday present, today.

A new chair, if you’re wondering.

It should — according to the text message I’ve just received? — be with me between 15:00 and 16:00.

That’s nice to know.

Now … can someone buy me a bluray drive, please?

Mine’s having issues with macOS Ventura, after a recent update.

I can only hope that the further update — to macOS 13.2.1 — helps!

It’s time to come out of the metaphorical closet: and publicly admit I have type 2 diabetes.

I’m on a shed load of medication, as a result.

Including one called Semaglutide: a weekly injection that’s supposed to help reduce sugar levels — it does — and promote weight loss.

Handy for me, as I’m not exactly Mr Skinny!

I’ve been concerned, recently: as I, and many other diabetics on the stuff have been struggling to get hold of any.

As many … let’s call them celebrities … have been buying it in bulk: JUST to reduce weight.

Something it’s approved for in the US, but not in the UK.

At any rate … ?

It’s not necessarily easy to get … unless you get it on prescription.

And even then, it’s considered experimental.

I’m getting it — in part — to see if it can help me loss a few pounds.

As you’d expect?   There’s a twist in the tail.

As — according to a BBC piece* — many High Street pharmacists have announced they’re planning to sell the stuff: at around £70 to £75 mark.

One?   I’m not sure selling it to people who’ve not been diagnosed with an issue is wise: as it means less for those of us who have.

Two?   I’m glad I get my prescriptions for free†: that’s a LOT of money.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga‡, Mum^ and Debbiª putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

The day also saw Trevorº leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Love on the Rocks was a 1980 song by whom: Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra or Leo Sayer?

Q2)        Love of the Common People was a 1983 hit for whom: Paul Young, Frankie Goes to Hollywood or Captain Elastic’s Plastic Fantastic?

Q3)        Break up song, Ain’t No Pleasing You, was a hit for Chas and Dave.   In which year of the 1980s?

Q4)        Love song, God Only Knows, was in 1966.   By whom: the Doors, the Beatles or the Beach Boys?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The best known version of I Will Always Love You was performed by Whitney Houston.   But it was written by whom: kd lang, Dolly Parton or Reba McIntyre?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        13th February is World Radio Day.   Britain’s first entertainment station, 2MT, was broadcast from where: Mountnessing, Springfield or Writtle?
A1)        Writtle.   (It’s just outside Chelmsford, and operated by the Marconi company.)

Q2)        13th February is the feast day of Castor of Karden.   He’s the patron saint of which German city: Mainz, Trier or Koblenz?
A2)        Koblenz.

Q3)         13th February, 1642, the the Clergy Act become law.   It forbade Church of England bishops from serving, where: the House of Lords, Roman Catholic cathedrals or dairy farms?
A3)        The House of Lords.

Q4)        13th February, 2004, saw scientists announce that the star, BPM 37093 was a very large diamond.     It’s been nicknamed what: Dogs, Days or Lucy?
A4)        Lucy.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Kim Jong-nam was assassinated on 13th February, 2017: on the orders of his brother, Kim Jong-un.   Kim Jong-un is the dictator of where: North Korea, Vietnam or Cuba?
A5)        North Korea.
Here’s a thought …
“A love song is a song about romantic love, falling in love, heartbreak after a breakup, and the feelings that these experiences bring.”
From the Wikipedia entry about love songs.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        From the little I know?   The article gets the names wrong.   From what I’ve understood, ‘Wegovy’ and ‘Ozempic’ are brand names for the drug whose generic name is Semaglutide.   They’re not — as the article seems to claim — three different drugs with identical ingredients.   (It’s like fluoxetine: that’s the generic term for the drug better known as Prozac.)

In England, you get free medication if you’re diabetic, or have an underachieve thyroid.

Fun — and chicken nuggets — were had, Olga.   The actual video should be next week.   We’re working on one where he ranks his favourite KSI songs.   It’s taking its time!

^        Hello, Mum!   (The chair turns up between three And four.)

ª        Oh, they’re Beatles songs … !   You had me confused, there, Debbi!   (It’s worth a go!   Assignment 1’s the only one with Lead.)

º        Cheers, Trevor, I got it corrected.

I think you're right about the chemical name and the different names by different pharmaceutical companies. I hope the chair is comfortable and it turns up in time. And good luck with the Blueray request (or the software update, or both).
