Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-2-2023 — The Futurist Manifesto.

20th February, 2023: The Futurist Manifesto.

Yes: it’s Monday.

And, frankly?

That mean’s I’ve got my nephew, this afternoon!

Finally!   We get to finish that video … !

~≈®≈~

Talking of whom … ?

I was actually at Jude and his mother’s new flat, yesterday: for my first visit

It’s in an old converted Manor House near me.

And it has to be said: some of the views are quite nice!

Apparently?   There’s even a nearby cricket ground, as well.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Debbi† and Mum‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

The day also saw Trevor leaving us a message^.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The Futurist Manifesto was published in Le Figaro: on 20th February.   What was Futurism: an art movement, a Fascist group or a Trade Union?

Q2)        Le Figaro, itself, is a French what: newspaper, magazine or website?

Q3)        The piece published in this year: 1909, 1910 or 1911?

Q4)        The Manifesto was written by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti.   Marinetti was a noted Italian what: poet, essayist or tree surgeon?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The original Italian version of the Manifesto was published on which date: 3rd February, 4th February or 5th February?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        19th February saw NASA’s Mars Odyssey start mapping Mars.   19th February of which year: 2001, 2002 or 2003?
A1)        2002.

Q2)        Children in the UK were awarded damages on 19th February, 1968: after being born with deformities.   Deformities caused by what: thalidomide, fluoxetine or aspirin?
A2)        Thalidomide.   (Apparently? The drug was supposed to be a good treatment for morning sickness.     The Wikipedia entry on the drug tells me it’s considered good for a range of other conditions: but that men whose partners may become pregnant, must use contraception whilst being treated with it.   It makes you think.)

Q3)        Sportsman, Ma Lin was born on 19th February, 1980.   What does he play: snooker, ping pong or Quoits?
A3)        Ping pong.   (It’s also called table tennis and whiff whaff.   Can anyone mention alliteration?)

Q4)        19th February, 1954, saw the Soviet Union transfer what to Ukraine: Crimea, $5, 000, 000 or 80 tons of wheat?
A4)        Crimea.   (The whole basis for the modern Russian invasion?   Is that they want it back.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   Merle Oberon was born on 19th February, 1911.   Which of Henry 8th’s wives did she play: in The Private Life of Henry VIII?
A5)        Anne Boleyn.
Here’s a thought …
“We intend to sing to the love of danger, the habit of energy and fearlessness.”
From the Futurist Manifesto.
And music played on a Intonarumori: an instrument designed by Futurist musician, Luigi Russolo …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I think you’ll be fine, Olga: but I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!   Feel free to use the sketch as a lesson: although I don’t know how well it would translate!   (Would showing Jordi the Spam sketch be a good idea … ?)

Hmmm … how are you with writing about people who AREN’T messiahs, Debbi … ?

        Hello, Mum!   (Yes: it’s table tennis/ping pong/whiff whaff … )

I can see an error in your marking. Recheck the answers to Q1, I can see a wrong year there.Must be a Brentwood problem.

Q4) poet

Q5) 5th February
Thanks, Paul. Yes, we've both survived the class. The pictures from your sister's new flat look very nice. These conversions in nice old buildings can work out very well, but it depends on how the conversion is done, as sometimes you end up with strange and weird spaces. Enjoy Jude's visit and have fun!
