A1)        1958.   (The Wikipedia entry gives the date as both 31st January, and 1st February: as the launch was at 22:47:56 Eastern Time on 31st Jan … equivalent to 03:47:56, 1st February, in Greenwich Mean Time.)

Q2)        The satellite was called what: Sputnik 1, Explorer 1 or Prospero?

A2)        Explorer 1.   (The Black Arrow, and the Prospero satellite it launched was Britain’s only satellite launch system: its cancellation STILL makes me angry!)

†        I’ve got to admit, Olga: I can never hear the word ‘magnetosphere,’ without thinking of Ian McKellen!

        We had a great time: he was a little more confident about making this week’s video.   Which is good.   We spent a LOT of time trying to work out how much caffeine one of those Prime cans has.   It’s mildly hair raising!

        Hmmm … Have you thought about starting an agency for tutors?   There’s possibly a need, there!

‡        If it’s any help, Debbi?   Series one and two of Picard are available on Bluray: in both the UK and US: quite whether that’s affordable, I don’t know.

        If that IS a route you and Rick decide to go?   You MAY want to buy the blu-rays, rip them, then sell the originals to your local equivalent of CeX^: you won’t make money, but will reduce the total cost of ownership.

        Netflix do seem to put putting out some good stuff: remind me to tell you about Stranger Things!   (Winona Ryder sounds like Woody Allen in the first series.   “What?!   Are you CRAZY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!”)

^        I used to work at the Brentwood branch of CeX, Debbi: they buy and sell second hand electronica, including movies and TV shows on optical disc.   I don’t know if there’s something like it, near you.
