31st January, 2023: The Van Allen Belt.
Yes: it’s Tuesday.
And … ?
I’ve got my nephew, this afternoon.
Hopefully?
We’ll get some entertaining stuff done.
Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) The Van Allen Belt was discovered by a US satellite launched on 31st January. Of which year of the 1950s?Q2) The satellite was called what: Sputnik 1, Explorer 1 or Prospero?Q3) The Belt, itself, is a what: magnetic belt, radiation belt or leather belt?Q4) The Belt is held in place by the Earth’s what: atmosphere, magnetic field or orbit?Q5) Finally … ? The Belt protect the Earth’s what: atmosphere, magnetic field or orbit?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30th January: of which year of the 1940s?A1) 1948.Q2) In which city: Mumbai, Kolkata or New Delhi?A2) New Delhi.Q3) Gandhi had a leader of which country’s independence movement: India’s, the USA’s or Indo-China’s?A3) India’s.Q4) The killer was a what: Muslim nationalist, Hindu nationalist or Jain nationalist?A4) Hindu nationalist. (I suspect that — like many people who do this — he had very little to do with the religion he claimed to represent.)Q5) Finally … ? Gandhi died: after being known as ‘Mahatma,’ for many years. Mahatma means what: Great Souled, Great Purge or Great Dane?
Here’s a thought …
“The term Van Allen belts refers specifically to the radiation belts surrounding Earth; however, similar radiation belts have been discovered around other planets.”From the Wikipedia Article on the Belts.
And a song …
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* It’s always the way, Olga, isn’t it? There’s jobs: but not necessarily one’s we can do! (The UK government keeps talking about training: but I think it depends on what our case workers have on offer: and think is suitable … )
† Hello, Mum!
‡ Oh, yes! I get the impression, Debbi, that one or two interviewers haven’t hired me for exactly that reason. They might value experience: but I also think they value youth … because it’s cheaper! Turning into Patrick Stewart could be helpful, there.
But, getting off my high horse, here? Yes, the franchise is doing VERY well: Picard 3 has some familiar faces in it, too.
