Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-1-2023 — Kevin Costner.

18th January, 2023: Kevin Costner.

It’s official: I’m typing this post one handedly.

And, frankly?

I’m wondering regular reader — and dystonia campaigner — Debbi Mack, manages!

The reason I’m typing with one hand?

Is simply that I’m holding my landline phone with the other: trying to get through to the Department of Work and Pension’s Warm Home Discount Scheme phone line.

On 0800 107 8002, if you’re curious!

It’s increasingly frustrating!

The minute the letter they’re talking about comes through?

Or someone picks up the phone?

The happier I’ll be!

~≈☏≈~

Ha!

I JUST got through to them: after twenty minutes waiting on the phone!

And?

It turns out I don’t qualify: despite getting the benefit, last year.

No one in the building does: low income or not.

Apparently, it ties into how recently the block was built: it’s too energy efficient, and small, to enable us to claim.

I’m …

Well, angry doesn’t start.

‘Deeply offended’ covers it.

I know the Government is trying yo keep costs doen

But giving a benefit one year, in 2021/22, and not giving it the next?

Strikes me as callous, offensive … and deeply hypocritical*.

~≈☏≈~

One thing I am happy about … ?

You’re possibly aware that my nephew, Jude, has a YouTube channel.

And that his confidence has improved enough to film himself.

OK: he’s very shy, bless him.

But that IS his first piece to camera.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga†, Mum‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        18th January saw the birth of Kevin Costner.   In which year of the 1950s?

Q2)        He played Al Harrison: in which mathematical, 2016 film?

Q3)        Costner received a Best Director Oscar in 1991.   For which film: Dances with Wolves, Robin Hood: Princes of Thieves or The Postman?

Q4)        Which character did he play in Robin Hood: Princes of Thieves?

Q5)        Finally?   He played the Bodyguard, in The Bodyguard.   His character was guarding a singer played by who: Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey or Mary J. Blige?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        17th January, 2007, saw the Doomsday Clock moved to five minutes to midnight.   In response to nuclear testing by whom: North Korea, Vietnam or Iran?
A1)        North Korea.

Q2)        The clock currently stands at 100 seconds to midnight.   When was it set to that time: 2020, 2021 or 2022?
A2)        2020.

Q3)        The Clock started ticking — was first set, in other words — in which year of the 1940s?
A3)        1947.   (It was originally set at seven minutes to midnight.)

Q4)        The Clock was furthest from Midnight in 1991.   What time was it at: 23:43, 23:45, or 23:47?
A4)        23:43.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Clock is maintained by the Bulletin of Atomic whom?
A5)        Bulletin of Atomic Scientists.
Here’s a thought …
“I just like to make a mainstream movie with all the edges that existed in the writing and I don’t like to see it flattened out in order to cater to audiences.”
Kevin Costner.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        As a result?   I’ve given a reporter I know a phone call: and told him about it.   He’s not been able to promise anything: but is going to poke around and see what he can see.

Ah HA!   He’s more of a football fan, than Olga?   He’d possibly get on with Jude!   Which reminds me I need to tell Jude Liverpool are on Twitter.
Well, I FINALLY got through to them, Olga: after a twenty minute wait, and a lot of one handed typing.   As you’ve possibly read, I don’t qualify: no-one in the building does.   It’s too new, and the flats are too small.   I’m not happy: that money’s handy.   About the only thing I could do was phone a reported I know.   We’ll have to see what happens.

Hello, Mum!   (It’s OK: he’s joined Twitter.)

^        It’s about as cheerful as the 27 Club, Debbi.   And I’ve done a set about them, too!   Talking of which?   Tomorrow’s the 19th: it’s the next 10-questions set!   (The next one is on 6th February: about Massachusetts.   Which is even more cheerful …)

Q2) Hidden Figures

Q3) Dances with Wolves

Q4) Robin Hood

Q5) Whitney Houston
It makes no sense, for sure. Has the building become newer since last year? I guess they decided to change the criteria. They make all these announcements so people will feel reassured (and think they are doing something), but when you check the small writing, very few people qualify). I hope the reporter comes through and, at the very least, makes some noise. Not that I think that government knows what shame is, looking at all the noise yesterday about the Chancellor of the Exchequer dodging taxes...
I have an interesting piece of historical news to cover later in the week. I'm interviewing a writer, an expert of Gaudi, who's been looking at the inicial funding for the building of La Sagrada Familia. It is fascinating stuff. I'll keep you posted.
