30th January, 2023: The Light has Gone Out.
Right … it’s Monday: and the start of an exciting new week.
Well, I say exciting.
I suspect it’s going to be quiet: bar a meeting on Friday.
Heigh ho!
~≈Ç≈~
I’ve got the radio on: inevitably.
Radio Four’s Today programme is countering away in the background.
Complete with an audio version of this piece.
Telling us that it’s getting increasingly hard for the over fifties to find work: as a majority of employers don’t want to hire people in the age bracket.
I’m one of those people.
Frankly?
The article only confirms something I’ve known for a while.
But it’s nice to see it in print …
Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30th January: of which year of the 1940s?Q2) In which city: Mumbai, Kolkata or New Delhi?Q3) Gandhi had a leader of which country’s independence movement: India’s, the USA’s or Indo-China’s?Q4) The killer was a what: Muslim nationalist, Hindu nationalist or Jain nationalist?Q5) Finally … ? Gandhi died: after being known as ‘Mahatma,’ for many years. Mahatma means what: Great Souled, Great Purge or Great Dane?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) The first successful petrol-driven cart was patented: on 29th January of which year of the 1880s?A1) 1886.Q2) It was patented by whom: Carl Benz, Gottlieb Daimler or Henry Royce?A2) Carl Benz. (The name is sometimes spelt ‘Karl’)Q3) The car was powered by what’s called gasoline in North America. What’s gasoline called in the UK: gas, coal tar or petrol?A3) Petrol.Q4) How many wheels did this first car have: five, four or three?Q5) Finally … ? Here’s a thought …
“Friends and comrades, the light has gone out of our lives, and there is darkness everywhere, and I do not quite know what to tell you or how to say it.”Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, announcing Gandhi’s death.
And a song …
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Oh, lord, don’t I know it, Olga? Sainsbury’s own brand frozen sausages are £1.50 for twenty. They do a premium own brand for £2.95. Or an equivalent ‘posh’ brand — Richmonds — for £3.30. Guess which ones I get?
That’s before we mention LeGuin’s The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas: our equivalent to that locked up child is in a sweatshop making cheap sausages, and equally cheap trainers.
† Hello, Mum!
‡ Debbi, you know me too well! :D
Oh … Picard Series Three is due to start on 16th February, this year: I thought you should know. It looks rather good. (Oh, Michelle Hurd’s back as the seen stealing Raffi. Oh, and one character in the trailer has yellow eyes … )

Yes. I am not surprised about the over 50s not being employed. We have people retraining here, but even with that, unless you go into something with a lot of offer, it must be really hard. (Here they keep saying there are jobs empty, but I can't see myself being a machinist in a ship or even a sailor...).
1 1948
2 New Delhi
3 India
4 Hindu Nationalist
5 Great Souled
Glad to hear the franchise is doing well.

Ageism. It's a thing. :)
You'd think employers would value experience. Hmm ...? :)
