26th December, 2024: Living in a Box.
Phew!
Christmas is officially over!
Barring the (metaphorical) hangover, obviously!
I am very aware, though, that I’ve ended up with a lot of gift cards: which will come in very handy!
AND a for Dummies Guide to macOS Sequoia.
I’m also very aware that my nephew, Jude, is now the proud owner of a shiny new phone.
Which took a lot of setting up!
And swearing.
It turns out the model concerned is like a lot of modern phones.
In an attempt to cut down e-waste, it comes with a charging cable … but no charging brick.
You have to use one you already have … or buy a new one.
Jude ended up borrowing Aunty Anna’s iPhone charger … and wait for the three that Grandma, Mummy and Aunty Anna have ordered to turn up!
Christmas, eh?
~≈🎄≈~
The charger situation has got me thinking I’m grateful.
For having enough money left in my account.
At any rate … ?
I’ve bought him a laptop … and suddenly thought, when I got home, last night “I wonder if there’s a charger in the box … ?”
That could be embarrassing … !
Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s six questions, shall we?
Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.
Q1) As it’s Boxing Day … ? Box Hill is a wooded hill popular with bikers. It’s where: Surrey, Essex or Kent? Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q2) Flight recorders on aeroplanes are what boxes?
Q3) A Box Brownie was a what: camera, phone or cheese?
Q4) Box 500 is better known how: MI5, MI6 or GCHQ?
Q5) If you’re wearing a box, you’re a what: a cricketer, a boxer or a snooker player?
Q6) Finally? Boxey was a character in which science fiction show: Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5 or The X-Files?
Q1) “I saw three ships come sailing in, on Christmas Day, on Christmas Day. I saw three ships come sailing in, on Christmas Day in the … ” what: morning, afternoon, or evening? Here’s a thought …
A1) Morning.
Q2) “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” was written by who: Longfellow, Wordsworth or Dickens?
A2) Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
Q3) Christmas Day in the Julian Calendar is 25th December. That’s equivalent to what date in January, in the modern, Gregorian, calendar?
A3) 7th January.
Q4) According to its president, Christmas Day was on 1st October in one country. Which country: Brazil, Venezuela or Chile?
A4) Venezuela.
Q5) Finally … ? “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day” was recorded and released by whom: Elton John, Wizzard or the Who?
A5) Wizzard.
“Boxing Day is also concurrent with the Christian festival Saint Stephen's Day.”And a titular tune …
From the Wikipedia article on Boxing Day.
The next large question set is on the 31st of December: and is a review of 2024.
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Hello, Mum! (I’ve put a laptop charger onto my Amazon wish list!)
† Wikipedia can be very changeable, Olga: I know that. But usually, their calendar tracking is good. Bizarre doesn’t start!
On the fourth, you say? I’m assuming that’s down to the differences in leap year tracking. (If I recall? The Gregorian calendar doesn’t let a year ending in ‘00’ be a leap year: unless it’s divisible by 400. I believe the Julian Calendar does things in a couple of different ways. Oh, hang on … the Wikipedia entry says:
“[it] follow[s] a simple cycle of three normal years and one leap year, giving an average year that is 365.25 days long. That is more than the actual solar year value of approximately 365.2422 days (the current value, which varies), which means the Julian calendar gains one day every 129 years. In other words, the Julian calendar gains 3.1 days every 400 years.”
That could explain things …)
Enjoy the holiday!
‡ I don’t think I said red in my review, Debbi. I called his kilt, ‘maraschino’! Although ‘fire engine’ could’ve worked.
Talking of Jamie … ? I don’t think Image Playground can do kilts. And you should see what it’s done to Nicola Coughlan …

Q1) Surrey
Q2) Black Boxes (I wonder what the one in the plane that crashed yesterday will show. It all looks pretty suspicious. And I am surprised anybody survived at all).
Q3) camera
Q4) MI5
Q5) a cricketer
Q6) Battlestar Galactica
Yes, that explains it. I would have thought laptops would still bring the proper chargers, but perhaps not. The one I have now still had it, but I bought it a few years back. I have several extension sockets where you can plug all kinds of things and they seem to work for more items, but they are not always the fastest, depending on what you are charging.
Oh, and happy birthday to Judy (I already sent him a message on Twitter)
Watching the companions leave and the Doctor regenerate again is an oddly emotional experience. Especially odd since I've seen it before!
Nostalgia's the worst. :)
