21st December, 2024.
Right … it’s now, officially, the shortest day of the year: and — according to the quick Google search I’ve just done? — sunrise is due at 9:20.
There are — as ever — a lot of people at Stonehenge, celebrating the fact.
Frankly?
And much as I’d love to join them?
It looks like it’s going to be raining!
Blow that … and the earworm it rode in on … !

It’s a day for videos!
As … ?
My nephew, Jude, was over, yesterday.
After we’d done the toying around with Image Playground — I won’t post the picture, they “… make my nose look flared!” — he managed to make a video, and post it to YouTube.
Make of that, what you will!
Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Mum scoring six out of six, and Olga and Debbi on five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) “The Dead Planet” aired on 21st December, 1963. It was the first episode of Doctor Who to feature whom: Cybermen, Ice Warriors, Time Lords or Daleks?Q2) 21st December saw the Rochdale Society of Equitable Pioneers found their first co-operative store. In which year of the 1840s?Q3) 21st December is the UN sponsored what: World Billiards Bay, World Basketball Day or World Bovril Day?Q4) A Doll’s House premiered on 21st December, 1879. Who wrote A Doll’s House: Bertolt Brecht, Henrik Ibsen or Alexander Pushkin?Q5) Finally … ? Pan Am Flight 103 crashed on 21st December, 1988. Over which Scottish town?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) According to the UN, 20th December is International Human what Day: Cooperation Day, Solidarity Day or Love Day?A1) Solidarity Day.Q2) Fanny Waterman died on 20th December, 2022. She played what: guitar, piano or flute?A2) Piano.Q3) 20th December is Macau Special Administrative Region Establishment Day. It marks the day Macau became part of which country?A3) China. If I’ve understood it? Macau had been a colony of Portugal: and, today, is known for its huge gambling industry.Q4) The Louisiana Purchase was ceremonially completed: on 20th December, 1803. Who bought the territory?A4) The USA.Q5) More to the point? They bought it from what was then, where: France, Germany or Spain?A5) France.Q6) Finally … ? Captain America Comics #1 went on sale: on 20th December of which year of the 1940s?A6) 1940. (It went on sale on 20th December, 1940, but was cover dated March, 1941: when remaining copies were taken off the shelves and pulped.)
Here’s a thought …
“Rock journalism is people who can’t write, interviewing people who can’t talk, in order to provide articles for people who can’t read.”Frank Zappa, December 21, 1940 – December 4, 1993.
And — given the film debuted on the 21st — a song …
The next large question set is on the 31st of December.
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* That’s a shame High Royd’s fallen out of use, Olga§: the UK’s crying out for hospital beds. I’m assuming restoring it would cost way too much: which is a shame. We need those beds, and having them in a historic building could do wonders.
And, yes, you’re right about psychiatric hospital not being the thing, these days: but I’m assuming there could still be a demand. I’ve known people who’ve benefitted from care in Warley Hospital: and on Basildon Hospital’s mental health ward. (I remember delivering newspapers to some of the nurses at Warley: it had accommodation for them in a set of prefabs. It didn’t have a piggery, though!)
† Hello, Mum!
‡ Englanders? Englanders, Debbi? I don’t think I know anyone who called us Englanders!!!!! We’re English! But, yes: Lydon does have a point: the game’s popular here, and all over the rest of the UK. Not always for the right reasons. You know about the Old Firm Derby, the rivalry between Celtic and Rangers, don’t you? That can get nasty. And Millwall’s rivalry with West Ham United, Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic, Portsmouth, Everton and Gillingham, could be equally as bad.
Snooker’s a pretty watchable game, Debbi¶: although I don’t know if it would appeal to a baseball fan!
§ I’ve put a picture of you through the Image Playground app, Olga: and sent it to you through Twitter. (And deleted the originals.) If it’s any help, Debbi’s using the one I did for her as her Facebook profile picture!
¶ I think I’ve already told you, Debbi. But a snooker is where you force you opponent to foul. I think we’ve mentioned it, haven’t we?

Thanks, Paul! I've seen your message and it looks good, although, as I told you on X, I look older now, because the picture has a few years (and I no longer colour my hair). Very good quality image! And I realise I missed question 6 yesterday. I didn't realise until I saw the title today....

Yikes! So many exclamation marks. I shall avoid calling you and the population of your country anything but the English. Or the British, if you prefer. :)
I love your country. I do. So many great ... shows, books, music, people.
Okay, I'm done. Carry on carrying on. :)

I remember that plane crash. Devastating.
That came not too long after the first space shuttle blew up. That was SO devastating.
Little did I know, eh? :)
