6th May, 2025: iMac.
Hmm …
I was at my sister’s, last night: baby — ha! — sitting my nephew, Jude.
We’d natter whilst he watched YouTube on his PS5, and I watched the snooker final in the front room.
I think we had an entertaining evening.
Although I have to say: I dropped a chip.
And … ?
Ruth’s cat’s like bloody lightning!
~≈🍟≈~
We — and the cat! — had a good evening.
So did Chinese snooker.
As Zhao Xintong beat Mark Williams 18-12: and became China’s first snooker world champion in the process.
Well done, him: it’s one hell of a personal achievement, one I suspect will have a similar effect to Andy Murray winning Wimbledon.
And persuade lots of people in China join snooker clubs.
At any rate: congratulations to Xintong.
Now … will he be able to beat the Crucible Curse … ?
I seriously doubt it!
Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga†, Irene‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s five question set, shall we?
Q1) The original iMac was unveiled on 6th May, 1998. By which computer company?Q2) The iMac was what’s know as a what: all-in-one, laptop or tablet?Q3) The machine was introduced by the company’s then chief executive officer. Who was that chief executive officer: Gil Amelio, Steve Jobs or Tim Cook?Q4) That original iMac was only available in Bondi blue. The colour was supposed to have been named after a beach in which country?Q5) Finally … ? The original iMacs caused a scandal, as they lacked what: floppy drives, CD drives or monitors?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 5th May is Tango no Sekku. Where: Japan, China or Vietnam?A1) Japan.Q2) 5th May marks which language: Portuguese, Swahili or Cantonese?A2) Portuguese.Q3) 5th May is the feast day of Angelus of Jerusalem, the patron saint of Palermo. Palermo is a city on which Mediterranean island?A3) Sicily.Q4) 5th May is Matyrs Day. Where: Albania, Bangladesh or Canada … ?A4) Albania.Q5) Finally … ? Charles 1st dissolved Parliament on 5th May, 1640. The sitting of Parliament in question was called what: the Long Parliament, the Short Parliament or Rump Parliament?A5) The Short Parliament.
Here’s a thought …
“The iMac is credited with saving Apple from financial ruin, and for turning personal computers from niche, technical products to mass-consumer fashion.”From the Wikipedia entry on the original models.
And a couple of adverts …
The next ten question set will be on 15th May: it’s about Mike Oldfield.
Your answers will be published tomorrow morning.
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Hello, Mum! (There’s a thing about the Crucible Curse, here, Mum! Apparently, the Chinese chap who won last night is expected to win, again, next year.)
† There’s a Henry 8th musical, Olga? About his wives? I’m mildly surprised: but shouldn’t be. The man left an impression. And the Wikipedia entry on his wives reminded me about the rhyme: “Divorced, beheaded, died; Divorced, beheaded, survived”. Having a musical about them would give them a bit of light. (Belated Happy Birthday!)
I’m not sure is 1984’s a good comparison for the President’s current term. It strikes me Big Brother and co. were far more efficient! Tony Blair’s original campaign, back in the 1990s? Saw him saying he wasn’t going to make promises: he was going to make categorical pledges. It’s a direct lift from 1984.
Saying that: the bottom quote from Pt 2, chapter five, seems VERY relevant!
“In a way, the world-view of the Party imposed itself most successfully on people incapable of understanding it. They could be made to accept the most flagrant violations of reality, because they never fully grasped the enormity of what was demanded of them …”
‡ Morning, Irene: was Jim watching the snooker … ?
§ It’s something that’s been bothering me, as well, Debbi: although he sticks to “I’m the Doctor” in ‘Lucky Day’.
I always think external storage is like shelving: you can never have too much. (That possibly applies to external optical drives, as well. And USB sticks!)

This is the website of the musical. I hadn't hear about it either, but it was evident it has many fans and some people were familiar with the songs, and there was the odd person who came dressed for the occasion as well. There is a point, at the end of the play, where they allow videos and pictures and people were all going quite mad about it.

Yes, Big Brother too...
That was the curse on the Chicago Cubs. Why a goat? I have no idea. But, it allegedly prevented them from winning a World Series.
I'm sure you could "Google" it. :)
