Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-9-2025 — Sam Neill (Ten Questions.)

14th September, 2025: Sam Neill.

Right …

It’s Sunday.

And … ?

I’m going to be working on a video, today!

Yep: my last review of a Star Trek: Star New Worlds episode — or, at least, of a third season episode — will be being worked on, today.

It has to be said, Anson Mount put in one hell of a performance … !

There’s a teacher in Southend called Jude Nzemeke: who teaches computer science to primary school children.

In a recent BBC News article, Mr Nzemeke has gone on the record to say he feels teaching computer games — or, at least, how to play computer games — would be a good way of interesting children in computer science.

Is he right … ?

I don’t know.

But playing a lot of Tetris could have made lessons fun … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th September 2024.

14th September, 2024.

Right, then: Saturdays …

And … ?

The day after Friday.

I managed to afford some shopping, yesterday: but … ?

Need to go back to the high street, as I forgot to pick up some medications.

There’s always something, isn’t there … ?

~≈Ω≈~

There’s a war on, you know.

Or, at least, military action: as Russia’s war on Ukraine carries on.

Yesterday?   Keir Starmer, the UK’s Prime Minister, met with President Biden to discuss a range of subjects.

Including the War in Ukraine: and more aid.

In the shape of missiles capable of hitting Russian military bases, in Russia.

Except … ?

Ukraine isn’t allowed to use the things.

And, as a result of the two hours worth of talks?

Is still not allowed to use the things on Russian territory.

Why?   I don’t know.

But it seems a bloody stupid move to give or sell — at a discount — a lot of long range missiles … and then say to Ukrine, “You’re not allowed to use them.”

What on Earth is the point of that … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th September 2023.

13th September, 2023.

Right … it’s Thursday.

Which is going to be quiet.

To deal with that … ?

I’m going to be doing some writing: quizzes do not write themselves.

Then?   For the sake of variety?

I’ll be doing some more writing.

I’ve managed to scan in some paperwork for my upcoming appeal against a decision by the Department of Work and Pensions.

And tried uploading it from Brentwood Library.

Which didn’t work, I should add.

At any rate … ?

I’ve got a lot to do …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th September, 2022.

14th Sept. 2022.

I had a meeting, yesterday: with my Restart case worker.

And with the chap that runs their Job Club.

It’s the facility in the Restart office that lets service users hunt for jobs online.

The computers for service-users?   Opens on a very easy to use web page: that features a simplified design that allows access to various recruitment websites.

The computers are so simplified?   That left handers like me — or people with only one arm, or functional hand — cannot change the mouse to left hand use.

Literally, can’t change.   There’s no way to get to the mouse button settings on these computers.

I was bloody angry!

And managed to make my feelings known: both to the case worker I was working with — who hadn’t realised left handers make up quite as much of the population as we do — and to the IT guy who came over to see if he could alter the settings.

He couldn’t, so you know.

But I was told — by both the IT guy and the chap I was working with — that feedback would be provided to Headquarters about the matter.

Which I wasn’t too happy about, either.

I made it perfectly clear that, yes, that was good.

But I’d be far happier if the situation was corrected: the next time I needed one of their computers.

I’m not hopeful about that.

After all, it’s taken Brentwood Library a long time to simplify access to the relevant settings.

It was the same for the public computers at the old Brentwood Job Centre office: it took a while for the Job Centre to update them.

Frankly?

I’m still angry about something that doesn’t just affect me.

I know at least one neighbour who has an artificial right arm.

And one worker at the local Post Office with a deformed right hand.

Both of whom could possibly benefit from using a mouse, left handedly.

This — however personally I’ve taken it — is not just about me.

It’s about anyone else who needs it.

It’s about the accessibility of Restart’s services.

You’re possibly aware Queen Elizabeth 2nd has died: and that the nation is mourning.

I have to confess, I wouldn’t mind paying my respects at her lying in state.

She was doing the job for a hell of a long time: and that deserves manners, if nothing else.

With my knees and bladder, though?   A queue that long would be … unpleasant!

But?   I’m following the news about it.

I’m also aware that her face — on stamps and coins — will slowly be replaced.

Which will be … strange, I think.   Or take some getting use to.

Either way?

The though got me Googling for mock-ups.

I didn’t find any …

But did find this on Ebay.

A recent edition of polymer five pound note, on Ebay, for £13, 000!

I don’t know if you’re a royalist, or republican.

But I think you’re going to agree with me: selling something on Ebay, that’s currently worth a fiver, for that price?

Is online mugging!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-9-2021: Dante Alighieri.

14th September, 2021.

You know … today’s going to be one of those days, I think.

Believe it or not: I’ve got my washing machine on, washing some socks.

Whilst, simultaneously?

Boiling the famous Big Pot.

Yes: you’re right.

It’s teatowel cleaning day.

By the time the socks are washed … ?

The teatowels will just be started to do.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th September, 2020.

14th September, 2020.

It’s official: it’s Monday morning …

And I still have 21 Second To Go banging around my head!

Frankly?

The only song that’s earwormed me for longer … ?

Is Jessica Lange’s version of The Name Game.

Come back Lana Banana, all is forgiven … !

I mentioned a couple of days ago, that a bag of human remains had been found in a river.

In the believe it may — may — be linked to a possibly serial killer.

So far?   And as far as I know?

No other bodies have been found.

On the other hand?

According to the most recent piece of news I’ve seen?

No one’s been able to identify the remains …

Nik nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th September, 2019.

14th September, 2019

Yes: on a day where the Daily Teaser features the work of the late Pérez Prado?

I’ve got the theme tune to Tiswas* going through my head!

It always amazes me what my brain comes up with, sometimes!

~≈§≈~

At any rate, the elephant in the room?

The Times?   Is serialising David Cameron’s autobiography, For The Record.

And?

The former Prime Minister has admitted he’d not be ruling out a second referendum.

Frankly?

Knowing the man who got the UK into the Brexit mess doesn’t regret it … is ambiguous …

But knowing he wants a second referendum?

Gives him a few brownie points: at least in my view.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th September, 2018

14th September, 2018.

It’s officially true: I have an ear worm.

And it’s not even the whole damn song … !

No.

Normally?

I’d get the whole of Billie Piper’s Because We Want To banging around my brain.

No.

I’ve got the duck-call noise at the start of the thing on repeat!

Why, I don’t know.

There’s something els I don’t know, either.

Why the hell is the bouncer at the end of the video a rhino?

Oy … !

~≈§≈~

While we’re here … ?

I notice there’s technology news, over at the BBC’s website.

Yes, OK: I’ve been following it for years.

You’ve possibly worked that out.

One piece I noticed?

Was this one: telling Microsoft has introduced an experimental feature in some of the developer versions of its Windows 10 operating system.

Warning people who install Google Chrome or Firefox not to do so: and that their own Edge browser is a more secure option.

Personally?

I hope that feature isn’t one that’s introduced into the main consumer version of the operating system.

I’ve felt for a long time that you and I should have a choice in what software to use.

This — to me — makes Microsoft look like it’s thinking very gently, of discouraging end users from trying alternatives.

Little bit sneaky, that …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-9-2017

It’s official: it’s Thursday.

Which you’d possibly already noticed.

For me, thought?

I’m looking forward to finishing work, tonight.

More so than usual.

“Why?” I hear you ask …

Simple.

I’ve got this weekend off.

Granted, I’m not going to be doing much that’s different …

But, boy, I’m looking forward to it!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-9-2016

Bloody HELL … !

It’s silly o’clock in the morning.

My usual time to get up and post the Teaser, in other words.

But I’ve just got off the phone … booking up another interview: for Saturday.

The fact yesterday’s interview was cancelled?   Due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ … ?

Is something I can happily overlook … !

Especially as, not long after it got cancelled … ?

I got contacted for another: for today.

There’s two things I think I should say.
  • Walking the streets, handy your CV out, helps.
  • I’m nervous about all these interviews!
Wish me luck!
