Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-1-2026 — Twelfth Night

5th January, 2026: Twelfth Night.

Right then …

It’s officially cold!

Again!

Trust me, my toes — despite being encased in both socks and slippers? — are telling me they’re ice cubes!

The sooner I can afford really thick bed socks?

The better!

~≈🧦≈~

I’ve got the radio on.

So I’m very aware that the Today programme has announced the Chinese Government has demanded the release of Venezuelan President, Nicholas Maduro.

I’m …

OK, I’m not worried.

I’m really not worried: not one bit.

But … ?

I’m deeply concerned.

I can remember reading about World War Two: and how Hitler’s Nazi regime used the smallest excuse to invade Poland, and how things escalated from there.

I’m very aware that the Cuban Missile Crisis could have led to World War Three.

Very aware of how — much like today’s Venezuelan Situation — the US led Gulf War was motivated by claims the US was after Iraqi oil.

I’m aware of all this … and thinking one thing.

I’m worried the US president’s actions will start World War Three.

I hope not.

~≈🪖≈~

And finally … ?

It’s the first Monday of the new year: so I’m up early, as my weight management group re-starts, today.

Hopefully?

I won’t have point on much weight.

Hopefully?   Shivering in the cold weather may have burnt off a few calories!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th January 2024.

5th January, 2024.

Right … it’s official: I woke up in a strange mood!

Hence the Pointing comment in today’s introduction video: I was feeling … um … puckish … !

Ahem!

~≈¥≈~

At any rate?

And on a more serious note?

We’re due a General Election, later this year.

I couldn’t let that got past without writing about it.

And doing a corresponding video:

Hopefully?

Those make some sort of sense!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-1-2023 — Eris.

5th January, 2023: Eris.

Yep: it’s Thursday.

And I’ve currently go Amanda Rae talking about winters in the US, and UK, in the background.

She’s got a very pleasant voice: Youtube’s equivalent of easy listening!

She … … well, she makes a change from Amol Rajan and Martha Carney.

At any rate?   It’s Thursday: and I’m meeting my Job Centre case worker.

We’ll have to see what he thought of the Christmas card.

~≈🌲≈~

You’ll possibly remember that — a couple of months ago — I watched and reviewed Classic Dr Who serial, The Abominable Snowmen.

And was disappointed: as, at the time, there were no more due.

BBC America had pulled their funding for the project.

In the meantime, however?

There’s been some possible good news.

According to the Radio Times, the Daily Mirror is reporting that reanimated version of The Smugglers and The Underwater Menace are to be released.

That would be good, if true.

But … ?

Well, I’m taking it with a pinch of salt.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-1-2022: Umberto Eco

5th January, 2022.

Do you ever get that, first thing in the morning?

That time when staring at walls seems to make sense?

Possibly just me, then: unless everyone’s brain takes a while to get into gear, as they get older!

At any rate … ?

It’s now the day after yesterday: and?   I’ve now got a working bathroom light.

And managed to drop off samples, have a job centre meeting, and get a little shopping.

Which doesn’t sound like much, I know: but did make for a busy day.

Today’s going to be quieter.

Although, saying that … ?

I’ve got an official CV re-writing course, this afternoon: through a Microsoft Teams video call.

We’ll have to see how that goes …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-1-2021: Twelfth Night.

5th January, 2021.

Right … we’re under lockdown … again.

I’m jobhunting, in case you didn’t know.

And frankly?

This cuts the number of places I can apply to … as they’re shut.

Or out of reach of the few public transport services.

What have you.

It’s my nephew, Jude, I feel angry about.

Schools are now shut.

Again.

That’s going to have an impact on his education: and I really don’t like that.

Especially as I don’t know if his school’s handing out laptops so he — and his class mates — can do remote learning.

Between the virus, and the witheringly idiotic government?

I’m annoyed!

~≈Ë≈~

What hasn’t helped?

You’ve heard of technical support scams, yes?

Someone phones you up, claiming to be from the Windows Support Team, the Microsoft Refund department, what have you, and offering to fix your computer, remotely.

I’ve just had a call from an Indian call centre, trying the same thing.

Happy New bloody Year!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-1-2020: Twelfth Night

5th January, 2019.

Yes: it’s a Sunday.

And?

Frankly I’m expecting little to be happening.

Saying that … ?

I’m looking forward to a couple of things.

Frankly?

I’m expecting the copies of The Leopard from Lime Street to turn up: anytime between now, and tomorrow.

Oh …

And I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode of Dr Who.

A Doctor lost in a weird pocket dimension, a bunch of companions stuck on a crash landing plane with a bomb on it …

And two villains, and a bunch of unknown aliens doing the rounds?

Well …

I’d like to see how they get out of that!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th January, 2019.

5th January, 2019.

Like I said in the video … ?

Can I ask you to remind me to post that letter … !

Can I … ?

If you wouldn’t mind!

~≈§≈~

Just to fill in the details for you … ?

A few weeks ago, I put in for a new provisional driving license: happily funded by my local job centre, as they agree it’s a good form of ID, for those jobs that require one.

So … I happily filled in the form, sent it off with the appropriate postal order, and ID …

And then, once I got back home, realised I hadn’t actually signed the bloody thing … !

So would have wait for the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency, the DVLA, the body that issues driving licenses, to send the form back …

Along with a point comment about signing it.

That’s the letter I’ve got to send, today …

Like I say … would you mind reminding me … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-12-2017: Twelfth Night

Right, done and dusted … !

As you’re possibly aware?

I’ve had an internal drive: a two terabyte one I’d used for media storage.

One that the Brentwood branch of CeX wouldn’t take, as the equipment they used to test such things had broken.

I was just a little put off by that: and thinking, yesterday morning, that heading to the Romford branch of CeX and selling it there, would be an idea.

So … ?

That’s exactly what I ended up doing.

Romford CeX were happy to take it: doing the testing in under an hour, whilst I went off an had the first and only McDonalds I’ve had in about five years.

Frankly?

It’s strange, I know: but I’ve come away with a minor feeling of accomplishment: however minor that accomplishment actually was.

~≈§≈~

Just as an extra thought?

You — as I — have possibly read about the Meltdown and Spectre flaws in various computer chips: chips — and thus flaws — so widespread that every hardware maker on the planet are affected.

Included Macs: the platform I’ve been using and recommending for several years, now.

Thanks are that, Intel!

At ANY rate?   Apple* have confirmed this affects Macs, iPhones and iPads — but not the Watch — and will be putting through fixes, soon.

Personally?

I hope that includes my version of Safari.

I’d hate to be left out!

~≈§≈~

In all this … ?

In all the fuss, day trips and palaver, the fact I’ve managed to catch Shada, last night?

Can almost be overlooked!

Oy vey … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-1-2017

Hmmm …

Wouldn’t you just know it …

If you read yesterday’s post, you’ll have realised that I was having problems: connecting to the internet.

Getting frequent ‘You Are Not Connected To The Internet’ messages.

I first noticed it on Tuesday night, when I got home from work.

I got it, again, yesterday.   Which was annoying: I fancied a film, but couldn’t guarantee being able to watch one.

One thing I did do, yesterday?

Was phone BT to chase up what was happening with the situation.

According to them?   The problem was not the connection, as originally thought.

No.

It was the router.

The dratted HomeHub3: the one they’d originally replaced for me, a couple of months ago.

After I’d complained about the thing!

Thankfully?   BT’s Sending a replacement.

But, LORD, I’m not happy!
