Right … sauce … 

I’ve actually managed to make some spaghetti sauce, last night.

Just not very good spaghetti sauce!

I’m convinced I didn’t use enough tomatoes: and it’s not as creamy as it could be.

Frankly?

It’s more a spaghetti stew, a stew you can put on top of spaghetti.

Still: I’ve five more tubs of the stuff.

And I can always have it with potatoes, if I didn’t fancy pasta!

It’s officially official: it’s Saturday.

And the day after I caught the penultimate episode of Silo, series two.

It’s a fascinating watch.

But there is a downside.

Some scenes are filmed in badly lit areas of the setting: and it doesn’t look especially good.

Hopefully, that’s something that can be remedied …

It’s not that often my home town gets mentioned on the news.

But my home town — or, at least, its local council — got mentioned by the BBC’s new website, yesterday.

It seems the local government ombudsman has accursed Brentwood Council of gatekeeping, of doing everything it can to not help homeless people in the area.

And of doing so, despite the two hundred or so relevant applications meeting the relevant thresholds.

I’m tempted to tell you several things.

That the council’s guilty as charged.

And that — as I mentioned in several posts, yesterday — was doing this because it:

• Hadn’t invested in social housing, or …
• Didn’t want the wrong sort of residents in town.

I’m tempted to say #BrentwoodCouncil’s doing this because they haven’t built enough #CouncilHousing. Or because the homeless aren’t #MiddleClass enough … Either way, I’m not surprised by this … www.inyourarea.co.uk/post/news/67...

Right … it’s officially Thursday, an episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds* is playing in the background … and I’m expecting a visitor, today.

Yep: I’m due a repairman, one who’s due to fix the extractor fan in my bathroom.

Here’s hoping he can do something: I’d like to have an un-steamed bathroom!

Right … I’m up early, again.

As the monthly weight management programme’s next meeting … ?

Is today.

I don’t know why it’s been shifted to Wednesday.

But suspect that — as the last two meetings have only had two other people, including my self — that a lack of people may have something to do with it.

We’ll just have to see!

Did I mention Jude — my nephew — was over, last night?

Jude was over, last night.

I think we can safely say way too much food was eaten!

But?   We can also say a video was made: of Jude’s most recent game of Fall Guys.

I wish there was a Mac version: it looks like fun.

Which is nice.

One where I’ve a little cash: and enough time to do a very few bits of shopping.

I don’t know about you: but I need potatoes.

There’s always that one vegetable stall that does a decent size spud.

Right … It’s officially the case that — according to the BBC’s weather site — we’re going to be warmer, today, than we were, yesterday.

Which is nice.

Given I’ve reported our block’s communal TV aerial’s having issues?   And that our landlord’s aerial contractors have phone my mobile to get in touch with me?   

I’m going to have to go out to phone them back without getting charged.

And … ?

I’m going to have to do that, and be back home, before one o’clock.

That’s when I’m scheduled for a phone meeting with my Job Centre phone meeting.

That … ?

Is possibly going to go much like my last one!

In other words … it’ll be a good chance to arrange my next meeting with the Job Centre … !

I have to admit, I think being out of a job can … well … 

Leave you in a funny mood, sometimes.

Thursday night, for example?

I tried sitting in with a film called The Wandering Earth.

And couldn’t get through more than half of it.

I’m frankly, blaming my extremely odd mood.

I just couldn’t sit still long enough for it.

Tonight, on the other hand … ?

Tonight, I still feel … slightly meh, to use a term … 

I did manage to catch a movie … 

Yes: you’ve possibly worked out which one.

I’ve been meaning to watching Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children for some time, now.

Yes: I finally got to a NHS run weight management class, yesterday.

In the afternoon.

And now have a pile of assorted bits to go with it: including a food diary.

As well as a suggestion I get checked for Diabetes.

Hmmm … 

Double checking stuff with my GP could be an idea … as I need a set of blood tests done, anyway …

Does any one remember Anne Sacoolas?   The US diplomat’s wife who ran over and killed biker, Harry Dunn, last August?   And who then fled the country, claiming diplomatic immunity?

The UK government made an official representative request: in December.

From what I can gather, the matter is now in the hands of the US government.

Who’ve described the request as ‘an abuse.’

Personally?

I get the feeling This is going to drag.

Did I tell you I like reading the occasional book?

Every-so-often?

Usually — and if I have time — at night, when I’m in bed.

One I’ve been reading for the past few weeks?   Is Daniel Keyes’ Flower for Algernon.

The book tells the story of Charlie Gordon: a man born with severe intellectual disabilities, and whose goal in life?

Is to become smarter.

And who is subjected to an experimental procedure to do exactly that.

Charlie benefits, over a course of months: learning languages, how to play the piano, and improving his literacy over the course of the novel.

Learning how to interact with others, and have romantic relationships.

Only to realise, at a psychiatric conference he’s contributing to?

That the effects of the surgery are temporary.

That his intellectual abilities are going to decline …

How did I feel about Flower for Algernon*†?

I have to admit, that’s one heck of a read.

 I came across it, after googling for ‘good science fiction’: and coming across it in several ‘Top One Hundred Sci-fi books’ list.

It’s listed in quite a few, as the best bit of SF ever written.

I couldn’t tell you if it is or it isn’t.

But, my lord … 

I think, in its sheer emotion, in it’s depiction of a man raised from idiocy to godhood, and back again?   In it’s depiction of a man raised and then, through no fault of his own, falling down again?   In a depiction of a man dragged out of a very real hell and being sent back again?

Is something you need to read.

I think I have a confession to make.

I’m now a member of the working masses.

No, really.

I’ve started a new job a few months back: and have to confess, I’m enjoying it.

AND the amount of overtime I’ve picked up, this week.

Which possibly means I’ll be doing a little shopping on Amazon, this week.

Books, possibly.

Especially as — at least for this week and next week — I’m working six nights a week: at my own request.

Purely to be able to afford the rent and pay the bills.

It means several things.

Firstly?   I’ve money to pay the bills.

Secondly?

I’ve less time to watch a film.

Or a TV series box set.

I’m trying to run a blog, here, AND get a social life.

Remind me to keep doing the latter, people keep telling me they’re fun.

At ANY rate!

At any rate, tonight was my night off.   Tonight was a night with nothing to do … 

Except catch something on TV.

A film?

Was out of the questions.   Frankly, nothing on iTunes was catching my attention.

A TV series?

Was an option.   Although Penny Dreadful is now finished, Dr Who isn’t on until later this year, The Strain’s fourth series is available, yet.

And, whilst Taboo and series four of Sherlock are both looking good?   Neither are on until the weekend.

So … ?

Well … ?

I know that — sitting on an extra hard-drive on my computer — is a copy of series one of Amazon Prime hit, Mr Robot.

Something that had been there for a while.

Something I’d not — between one thing and another — manage to sit down and watch.

Tonight?

I thought I should remedy that: an catch at least one episode.

Just to sample the goods, mind.

Right … 

You’ve possibly noticed something, just recently: the simple fact that I’ve had my router replaced.

The new one seems to be working well: although the real test comes when I stream some media through it.

We’ll have to see, won’t we?

At ANY rate … ?

At any rate, I’ve picked up my payslip for the week: I know how much I’ll be getting paid this week.

I think I owe a vote of thinks to the gods of overtime.

I’m also thinking of something else.

I’m thinking I’ll have enough in the bank to fund a shopping spree.

I’m thinking either a book or two or three.

Or that, considering I had more fun with them an my six year old nephew?   That a great big Marble Run would be good …
