Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13th October 2025.

13th October, 2025.

Right … it’s Monday …

I’m up, early, listening to the news, whilst waiting to go to my weight management meeting.

And hearing that hostages and prisoners are being released, and that a ceasefire seems to be holding.

I’m very aware the US president has said eternal peace is happening.

Eternal peace.

I can’t help but thing that’s going to last five minutes …

~≈🪦≈~

If you’re using Windows 10 as your default operating system, you’re possibly aware Microsoft will stop supporting it in October of this year.

Tomorrow, in fact: Tuesday, 14th October, 2025.

So, if your computer doesn’t support the new version of the OS, you’re looking at having to keep using a soon-to-be-vulnerable machine, or buying a new machine.

Or possibly replacing Windows 10 with a Linux distro.

There’s possibly going to be problems, either way.

And complaints, as well.

After all, if you’ve recently bought a Windows 10 machine, that doesn’t support Windows 11,  and have to junk the machine as a result?

That’s both a problem with e-waste: and with wasted money!

Hey ho!

~≈🪟≈~

I’m also aware of other things.

Back ups.

I’m on Quora, the site that let’s you ask — and answer — questions: in the hope that your knowledge can be useful, and your questions, worth asking.

So … ?

I wasn’t surprised to see the odd questions about backing up a Windows machine, prior to making the transfer to a new machine.

I’ve used Macs for years.

And am very used to the idea of backing things up from my old Mac to an external drive, then using Migration Assistant to transfer from the drive, to the new Mac.

A local hard drive: one sitting on my desk.

On an initial look at the relevant webpage, Microsoft’s Backup app doesn’t seem to work like that.

You can’t use an external drive: by default, you have to use Microsoft’s OneDrive service.

Which, if you need lots of storage, costs.

Per month!

In Microsoft’s defence, a deeper reading of the article about the app, says you can use an external drive with their Backup app.

But that’s my issue: that’s not highlighted.

The default is to backup Microsoft’s subscription storage service: a subscription you pay for, repeatedly.

A subscription fee you pay repeatedly, for an essential service like backups?

Sounds a lot like a racket …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-10-2024 — Ankara

13th October, 2024: Ankara.

Right …

I’ve come into money.

Not much — if you’re Jeff Bezos or Time Cook — but enough to make a difference to me.

I’ve already picked up a few useful bits for around the house.

And have a new mattress coming, on Tuesday.

I’m also sizing up sofas.

The prices for some of those are eye watering!

But it’s something that’s much needed.

The biggest problem … ?

Getting rid of the old furniture: at a good price.

I’m going to have to shop around, there!

~≈🛋️≈~

Something I have managed to get — which I’m not planning to tell the DWP about — was a couple of reasonably priced, high capacity, external drives.

It’s a long held believe of mine: having lots of drive space is like having lots of shelf space.

There’s no such thing as having too much shelf space!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-10-2023 — The Return of the Son of the Valley of Friday 13th!

13th October, 2023: The Return of the Son of the Valley of Friday 13th!

Yes: it’s Friday morning …

And … I’ve had an injection.

Yes: of my once-a-week dose of Trulicity.

Hopefully?

It’s helping.

~≈¥≈~

Oh …

I caught this piece from the BBC’s Archive, yesterday.

There’s a certain amount of irony, there.

The picture behind the presenter is the cover of Runequest*.

I should know, I’ve got a copy.

A copy of the version produced under licence in the UK by Games Workshop: who’s co-founder, Steve Jackson, is interviewed in the article.

Not that there’s any connection.

I think … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-10-2022 — The White House.

13th October, 2022.

Yes!   I went shopping, yesterday.

Buying milk, bread, and stuff for a spaghetti sauce.

And … ?

I forgot onions.

And chopped tomatoes, now I think of it: although I’ve a can of those, somewhere.

I’d kick myself.

Except I’d possibly miss.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-10-2021: Mexican Radio

13th October, 2021.

Right …

I have a plan for the day.

Well … not much of a plan, but none the less: a plan.

I’m going to get some shopping … !

Gosh … you’re excited!

~≈fl≈~

I know I’m possibly not: excited, that is.

It’s just shopping, after all.

One thing I’m — mildly — worried about … ?

Is William Shatner.

The man’s ninety: and due to go into space, today.

I’m just hoping he’s going to survive the take-off!

~≈fl≈~

Oh, just as a final thought … ?

I had an interview, yesterday.

Which you’d possibly realised, if you’d read yesterday’s Teaser.

It went well enough, I think.

Although asking — at the ‘Do you have any questions stage,’ — if they’d like to sponsor my YouTube channel possibly wasn’t wise … !

Watchmen — Series 1 Episode 4 — If You don’t Like My Story, Write Your Own — A Review

13th October, 2020.

OK …

It’s a Tuesday night: and frankly?

I’m umming and ahhhing about finishing this post, tonight … or leaving it until the morning.

We’ll have to see, won’t we?

I do know two things.

I’ve had a natter with a couple of neighbours, today.

Seemingly?

We have mail theft in action.

One set of neighbours have just received a credit card she didn’t apply for.

The last time that happened was a result of mail being pinched …

Another neighbour … ?

Has had money taken from his bank.

The only thing that he could explain that by … ?

Was by someone pinching a bank statement from the mailbox …

Ever get the feeling someone’s having a laugh?

~≈Ô≈~

The other thing I wanted to tell you about … ?

Is yes: I’ve seen episode four of Watchmen, series one.

They had to include Time Is On My Side*, didn’t they … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-10-2019: Westminster Abbey

13th October, 2019.

Yes.

It’s a definite.

I’ve accidentally uploaded my usual intro video for today’s post to YouTube.

Which is possibly going to confuse the hell out of my subscriber base.

Talking of my subscriber base?

I’ve had some good news.

I’ve now got one thousand subscribers!

Which means that I qualify for Youtube’s Partner programme, and earn ad revenue from them.

Once I’ve worked out which buttons to press.

~≈Œ≈~

Oh, as a an extra thought?

I was in London, yesterday: with my sister, Ruth, my nephew, Jude, and Jude’s friend Jaskaran.

It has to be said, Ruth doesn’t like playing Tag on the Docklands Light Railway.

I think the boys had a good time.

Oh, and we managed to up into Wendy and Hannah — my cousin Dean’s wife and daughter — at their Richardson and Richardson stand.

They’re at Stand 425, if you’re going.

Near the Moon.

Like I say, they’re reasonably priced, do a good Mars …

And might even tell you about Bertha, if you ask …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13th October, 2018

13th October, 2018.

Right, I have seriously got too post this, as quickly as possible.

It’s a work day: where I’m doing a long shift.

So the one day of the week I didn’t want to do what I actually did.

Forget to put my alarm on!

~≈§≈~

The one thing I DID want to mention … ?

Was the very sad death of games designer, Greg Stafford.

The man will be much missed by his family.

But will missed by the games community.

Creating Chaosium as a company was one thing.

But in helping design RuneQuest, and its background world, Glorantha?

He made something very special: not just your bog-standard Tolkienesque background.

And forced other companies to start releasing games with background.

He leaves one very special legacy.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-10-2017: Last Night’s Wreckage

Mmmm …

I think I’m in a funny ol’ mood.

Mind you, I think I know why.

I’m at work, this weekend.

And, frankly?

Won’t stop until Monday*.

That won’t help.

Neither will the pay: I was on short hours, last week: so the money’s down.

Ho …

Hum …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-10-2013

Right …

I’m nervous …

I’m back at work, tonight: and tonight … ?

I think I’ll be going live and answering the phone.

I’m nervous: as, for all the training, this is where we get down to brass tacks, and see if I can do what we’ve been trained for … !

I just wish I’d made more notes … !

~≈†≈~

On OTHER fronts … ?

On other fronts, the weather outside?

Is stupidly ungood.

It’s raining.

Which means heaving my rear up to the Council — with more paperwork relating to my Universal Credit claim — all the more fun!

~≈†≈~

And thirdly … ?

Thirdly, it seems Tesco has taken various products from its shelves: in a price row with Unilever.

Including Marmite.

I like Marmite.

Personally?

I’m just glad I don’t need to walk up the hill to my nearest Tesco to get one.

Well … Not in this weather … !
