Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1st June, 2026.

1st June, 2026.

Right, then: it’s Monday morning.

And, as ever?

I’m up, early: as I’m off to my weight management group.

I hope I’ve lost some.

But have to confess: I’ve had a few too many bags of crisps to be confident about that … !

~≈🥔≈~

I had the radio on, earlier.

Or, at least, had Radio Four’s Today programme on, earlier.

Seemingly?

Tech firm, Palantír, has been contracted to organise a unified database that will be used by the NHS, GP surgeries and social care department: in order to simplify access to patient data, and to make it easier for staff in Hospital A, Surgery B and Social Care Dept. C, to access the same details about a given patient.

I like the idea: although I’m as aware as anyone else, that’s setting the thing up is going to be a huge job.

However, Palantír, the contractors, are an American company.

Using the services they’ve already developed would makes things quicker and easier.

But … ?

I have to wonder if there’s a British company that could have been hired.

Digital sovereignty, an’ all that!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1st June 2025.

1st June, 2025.

Right: it’s not often I say this: but this post going to be a touch late.

Yes: I’ve officially been helping a neighbour.

You really don’t want to ask what they wanted me to find.

~≈🍔≈~

Moving rapidly on … ?

I managed to catch the last episode of season two — or series fifteen, if you want it like that — of Doctor Who.

Assuming I don’t get interrupted, I’ll have my review up, later today.

But … ?

That was an interesting episode.

~≈👩🏼‍⚕️≈~

Just as a quick thought … ?

A recent BBC newspiece tells us that broadcast piracy is still going on: especially of major sports events.

Many are blaming the rise of hacked Amazon fire sticks.

Personally?

I can’t help but think the fans quoted in the piece have a point.

Streaming services lowering their prices — especially for premium games — would be a very good idea.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-6-2024 — Dorset

1st June, 2024: Dorset.

Right then: it’s Saturday!

Which would normally mean frantically running around like a wild thing.

But instead?   This week, as others?

Means I’m going to be complaining about a late night: after reviewing the last ever episode of Star Trek Discovery.

Quite why it took forty-five minutes to upload?

I really don’t know!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-6-2023 — The Month of June.

1st June, 2023: The Month of June.

Yes: it’s official gone quiet.

But … ?

I woke up to birdsong, this morning.

OK, granted … it’s been overwhelmed by the commuter traffic heading for work … ?

But it was nice to hear!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-6-2022 — Samoa

1st June, 2022.

Right … it’s Wednesday.

Which means it’s the last day of the working week before the long Jubilee weekend.

It also means that I’m off to Chelmsford: for a meeting with my Restart case worker.

Hopefully?

I’ll come away with something.

~≈&≈~

I was in Romford, yesterday: doing a few bits and bobs.

And?   Managed to wonder past the local branch of Waterstones, on the way back home.

I couldn’t help but notice it was selling a revamped version of Dungeons and Dragons: in the wake of the game being featured in Stranger Things.

I have to say, they’ve matched the new cover the the one I was familiar with, quite well.

I’m willing to bet one thing, though.

That the rules have changed radically*.

For All Mankind — Series 2 Episode 9 — Triage — A Review

1st June, 2021.

Right …

I’m officially going to go to bed, in a few minutes time.

It’s getting late: I was up at 5:30, this morning!

And frankly?

Eno’s Ambient 4: On Land is doing a good job of being odd in the background.

Tal Coat is quite something.

At ANY rate?

I’m doing my usual thing: of starting a post about episode nine of For All Mankind’s second season.

I’ll be writing more about it, on Wednesday.

But?

Safe to say, the episode goes out with a bang …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-6-2021: Ol’ Kentucky

1st June, 2021.

Yep: I’ve got both a meeting — with my Job centre case officer —  and a blood test.

To monitor my blood sugar levels, in case you were wondering.

At ANY rate … ?

The chat with my case worker could be interesting.

She’s trying to encourage me to do a non-mandatory training course.

Which is fair enough.

The Zoom meetings aren’t an issue: it’s what I’ve been using for the few recent interviews I’ve had, recently.

The big issue’s been a copy of MS Office needed for the course.

I don’t have the hard drive space, nor the money, for it.

So — provisionally? — my case worker’s agreed to give me a grant for a refurbished Windows based laptop.

We’ll have to see what happens, there.

Digital Poverty — What One Man’s found. (Pt 1: An Introduction/Schools)

19th June, 2020.

Foreword.

Just so you know?

This is the first of a few pieces I’m planning on digital poverty*.

How many I’ll eventually write?

I don’t know.

That all depends on what I hear from the various companies involved.

I’m also not planning to turn this into something for my YouTube channel: at least right now.
It seems inappropriate.

At any rate, let’s move on.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-6-2020: Tennessee

1st June, 2020.

I think we can raise a couple of points, this morning.

Firstly?   I’m tired, again: although as knackered as usual.

I’ve actually managed to watch an episode of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, and write a blog post about it, alongside the accompanying video …

And not hit the sack at two in the morning … !

I got to bed at twelve!

Either way, I’m tired: for a given value of ‘tired.’

I’ve woken up, this morning, wanting to go back to bed …

And with Lady Gaga’s Love Game banging around my head.

I don’t care if she wants to ride my disco stick, I just want her to shut up … !

~≈ß≈~

Oh, just as a quick point?

I’ve just heard on the news that George Floyd — the man whose death has triggered riots in the US — was being arrested … for passing a potentially forged $20 bill.

A fake twenty.

He was killed for passing a hooky twenty dollar bill.

Jesus … …

How incompetent were those arresting officers?

And why on Earth didn’t the cashier check the bloody note?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1st June, 2019

1st June, 2019.

Yep.

It’s official.

The US president’s an undiplomatic twat!

As you’re aware, President Trump due to visit the UK: to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

He’s been interviewed by The Sun in the run-up to the visit.

Where he backs Boris Johnson as the next Tory party leader.

Frankly?

I’m …

Well, let’s just say I don’t like blatant interference with the government of the UK, by the government of the US.

Undiplomatic?   Is possibly mild.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-6-2018: World Milk Day

1st June, 2018.

Yes, it’s true: we were supposed to get thunderstorms, yesterday.

There was even an Amber weather warning.

An Orange Alert, if you will.

Enough of a fuss for me — despite the muggy and overcast heat — to wear a raincoat.

Sensible, yes?

Yes.

Except it didn’t actually rain.

Not a drop.

Not here, in Brentwood: and not in Chelmsford, where I work.

Oh, we got mist …

Just not the expected storms.

One of these days … ?

We’ll get accurate forecasts.

~≈§≈~

Just as a thought … ?

It seems the BBC* is going to be stream some matches from this years’s World Cup on its iPlayer Service.

For free, seemingly, and on a first-come, first-serve basis.

And in what’s call 4K, or UHD: in other words, at a resolution from 3840 × 2160, to 3840 × 2160, and using to High Dynamic Range colour.

I’m not a football fan.   But feel the implications of that?   Are going to be many-fold.

I don’t know if I could tell you all of them.

I think that if the BBC do this, then it will encourage 4K uptake in the UK: and help to lower prices of the relevant kit.

I’m ALSO thinking something else.

I’m an ex-barman: a fourteen year veteran of the trade.

I’m a veteran aware football is popular enough to see many pubs pay good many for pay-per-view football channels.

I’m assuming, theses days?   That many pubs will ALSO be paying a small fortune for football matches through IPTV set ups.

The fact the BBC will be airing World Cup football, via IPTV, for free?

Is something I feel would be good for the industry: it’ll help lower costs, and reduce a pub’s need to use illegal streams from a fully loaded Kodi box.

Here’s hoping.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-6-2017

I’m up …

Up …

And officially yawning.

After popping in on a friend who was having problems …

And staying up late, watching …

It’s riveting stuff that I seriously suggest you watch … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-6-2016

Oh, I hate that … !

I had to go off ill from work, yesterday: with my guts grinding like a poorly set of gears.

I HATE that when that happens.

I don’t like the idea of taking time off with a physical problem, however much that’s affecting my productivity.

I’ve a doctor’s appointment, next week.   And have an idea of what set my stomach off, last night.

Even so, I really don’t like taking time off.

Despite the fact my guts are affecting my productivity, I don’t like not earning money.   I don’t like not earning my own keep …

I don’t like not being part of a team, making whatever contribution I can.

And REALLY hate letting the side down.
