Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-7-2026 — The Beano (Ten Questions)

30th July, 2026: The Beano.

Did I mention I had pizza, last night?

I had pizza, last night: along side my nephew, Jude.

Or, I should say, we had pizza: rather I had pizza, then ate my nephew!

If you see what I mean … !?

At any rate, diner was had, and videos posted, on what had to be one of the hottest days of the years.

I can only hope today is cooler!

It’s rare, at the moment, not to hear about the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham.

At an event, yesterday, the new PM was directly asked if he would support moves to introduce assisted dying to the UK.

His answer?

Was that he’d rather see money invested into palliative care — and social care — rather than see it spent on any assisted dying measures.

I get the impression Mr Burnham’s not a supporter of assisted dying: and gave that that answer to tell us he didn’t support it, without alienating supporters of the idea.

Either on the back benches, or in the voting public.

Personally?

I am not a fan of assisted death: and don’t see myself wanting one.

But believe the procedure should be legally available, with safeguards: the sooner the better.

Hearing the PM’s answer to the questions isn’t something I’m pleased about.

His position may well delay things.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-7-2025 — The New Hebrides.

30th July, 2025: the New Hebrides,

It’s officially official: I had repairmen in, yesterday.

Lowering my cupboards, so you know.

I am suitably grateful.

To both the carpenters who did the job, my landlords for approving and arranging it … and to the occupational therapists who insisted on it in the first place.

Being able to reach the shelves — without a stool or a step ladder — feels odd, right now.

They’ve between that height since I moved in 2008.

Hopefully, though … ?

That will soon pass.

Something has caught my eye, this morning.

Or ears, I should say.

Is something that got announced on Radio 4’s Today programme: and confirmed by the Independent.

It’s a report from Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, that tells us YouTube is now the UK’s second biggest broadcasting service.

Behind the BBC, but ahead of ITV.

Even though I’m an older user who doesn’t use it as much as the younger generation?

That makes sense.

I’m finding it increasingly hard to find anything to watch on conventional broadcasters … but incredibly easy on YouTube.

There’s a song about that …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th July 2024

30th July, 2024.

It’s officially Tuesday!

And … ?

I’m getting the impression it’s going to be quiet, bar making movies … and taking the various substances I need to take in preparation for next week.

Heigh-ho!

~≈Ü≈~

I have to admit, I heard about the stabbings in Stockport, yesterday.

I can only extent my condolences to the families of those killed and injured.

Personally?

I’m not saddened by this: I — thankfully — know no-one affected by it.

But … ?

I am glad to hear the attacker’s been caught.

The police at least attempt to ask him why he did this.

~≈Ü≈~

To cap it all … ?

There’s a six-year-old girl called Eudine, who lives in Greenwich: who’s gone missing.

The Metropolitan Police have issued an urgent request for any one with information, to call 999.

My thoughts are with the family of that kid.

They must be understandably worried: the poor child could so easily come to harm.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-7-2023 — Nichelle.

30th July, 2023: Nichelle.

You know, Friday was a stressful day.

Friday just gone, I should add.

I had a new set of utility meters put in.

Not something I found easy: but there you go.

At any rate … ?

I was due a delivery from a third party seller on Amazon, the same day: a tub of Marmite, so you know.

The seller’s are called (Daily Essentials), so you know.

The Marmite hasn’t turned up.

I was annoyed enough to contact the seller and complain.

According to them, the currier — their spelling — had successfully delivered it.

And that I should check with my family and neighbours.

I live on my own: and the neighbours had nothing.

The tub?

Is still listed as ‘running late’ on Amazon, I should add.

The sooner the tub turns up?

The happier I’ll be.

~≈ß≈~

Oh, talking of the new meters?

And the spiffing new In Home Display that goes with them … ?

It’s got traffic lights on it.

Or, at least, a green, orange and red light.

As far as I can tell … ?

These are supposed to change: when your gas — or electricity — usage goes up and down.

That’s handy: I’ve already worked out which of my appliances — the washing machine’s fairly low energy, as is the iMac, but the spare desktop, and the oven, are hogs! — are good or bad.

OK, the traffic lights are a simplistic way of measuring these things.

But that — and the rough price guide it shows — are handy.

~≈ß≈~

One last thing, before I move on … ?

I’ve finally managed to finish my reviews of “Under the Cloak of War”, the most recent episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds.

This second season is very strong.

But?

This episode is very strong!

Check it out!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-7-2022 — I’ll Be Back.

30th July, 2022.

Yes: it’s Saturday … it’s definitely Saturday!

And not Thursday!   Thursday, just gone, was a day and a half: as I think I mentioned, in yesterday’s Teaser.

Stabbings, deaths of actors, what have you!

There’s possibly way too much excitement, for one day … !

At any rate … ?

The one — positive — bit of excitement?

Was the postman turning up with a two gang extension lead I’d ordered.

That was handy: it meant I could set up the new cordless landline phone.

Hopefully?

I’ll be able to work out call blocking, fairly quickly!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-7-2021: Oh, Henry!

30th July, 2021.

You’ve possibly realised I’m a Dr Who fan: hadn’t you … ?

And have been, for many years.

So I follow the news about it.

Yesterday’s news: that Jodie Whittaker would be leaving, after her last episode in 2022?

Wasn’t exactly surprising: after all, there’d been gossip about it for some time.

It wasn’t surprising … it just confirmed the talk.

What is surprising — or, at least, what surprised me, and the gang at WhoCulture — was the fact show runner, Chris Chibnall, is also leaving.

Stating that: “Jodie and I made a ‘three series and out’ pact with each other at the start of this once-in-a-lifetime blast.   So now our shift is done, and we're handing back the Tardis keys.”

That’s unusual: as his predecessors, Russell T. Davies and Stephen Moffat, have both overseen two actors.

What, frankly, can I tell you?

Except that the Jodie Whittaker years has had its ups and downs.

That I wish them both well, whatever they do next.

And that I’m wondering who’s going to be doing those two jobs next.

Frankly?   I think T’nia Miller* could be good …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 31-7-2020: Rum, Sodomy and the Lash

31st July, 2020.

Yes, Rollason Way had … an adventure … !

Rampaging aliens swept down the street, destroying cars, making mad, passionate, lingering love to innocent cats, and general causing havoc.

Whilst the Inquisition leapt out on people, interrogating them about their sofas, and vikings raided freezers.

On a more serious note?

We had a power cut.

Which didn’t last long, but, still … inconvenient … !

~≈†≈~

What didn’t help, from point of view?   Was being unable to phone UK Power Networks, who makes sure the power network doesn’t fall over.

Yes: O2’s STILL not providing us with a signal … as, according to the email they sent me last night, the tower’s been decommissioned …

And won’t be back in operation until October.

Personally?

I’m disgusted.

And, frankly, grateful that the local press were interested enough to want to talk to me.

Lord knows when that story will run, if or when it will.

But I’d love to read it …

~≈†≈~

The fact my dental appointment’s been moved to 11:40 … ?

Is a relatively minor point …

~≈†≈~

Thursday, 30 July 2020

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th July, 2020.

30th July, 2020.

Right …

I’ve actually managed to get a dentists appointment booked up for tomorrow.

At eleven.   In the morning, before you ask!

I’m …

OK, I’m mildly nervous.

Tooth-extraction’s not pleasant.

But, hey.

Once it’s done, it’s done.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-7-2019: Oh, Mr Nolan

30th July, 2019.

Yes, I have an interview, today: over in Pilgrim’s Hatch, near where my family live.

And I’m not actually feeling nervous about it.

Possibly?

I’m getting older: or — ha! — more confident.

More possibly?

I’ve a lot more on my plate to worry about.

We’ll have to see how it goes.

~≈§≈~

As a quick thought: one I know Old Peculiar regular, Debbi, may disagree with me, here.

But I notice that a cross-party group of MPs on a fact finding mission to Canada who’ve publicly advocated legalisation of recreational cannabis: and feel it may, successfully, go through parliament in five to ten years time.

It’s not something I like the idea of.

I’ve met a few people, over the years, who’ve had various shades of schizo-affective disorder, or schizophrenia, and who’ve blamed their cannabis use for triggering or severely aggravating their condition.

Something I believe is supported by the little research I’ve been able to access.

Right here and now?

Legalising recreational cannabis use?

Is not something I feel I could support.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th July, 2018.

30th July, 2018.

Yep: I’m on a short week, this week.

And, understandably?

I’m having mixed feelings about it.

Yes: I’m going to be using holiday time to pad out my hours.

Otherwise I’d be getting paid less, next week.

On the other hand?

At least I’ve some time off coming.

That’s an upside: at least I’d be able to clean, launder, maybe catch a movie, or two.

But?

Right now, I’ve got two quid left for the rest of the week.

I’ll let your imagination do the rest, shall I … ?
