Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th May 2026

20th May, 2026: about Blu-ray Discs …

Yes: it’s officially, finally, done!

I’ve made a video: about copying blu-rays.

Quite how relevant it is, these days?

Especially given how streaming is more common, and given how the market for blu-ray drives is slowly shrinking?

I don’t know.

But … ?

It feels good to get the thing out of my system.

~≈📀≈~

Apparently?

The Scottish National Party announced an idea, last month: to introduce a mandatory price-freeze on essential groceries.

Which sounds like a good idea: although one that retail organisations will oppose.

Yesterday?

The Treasury announced a similar scheme: although theirs, unlike the SNP’s plan, is a voluntary freeze.

Retail organisations oppose the Government one, as well.

Personally?

I hope something like it goes through: although I feel a mandatory one will have more results than a voluntary one.

We’ll have to see how it goes.

~≈🛒≈~

Do you remember that the UK had a referendum, a few years ago?

No, not the Brexit one: the one about introducing Proportional Representation, back in 2011?

The one that was eventually, rejected?

Yeah: that one!

There’s been nothing in the news about another referenda on PR, recently.

However?

It seems some sixty odd Labour MPs have called for an amendment to the Representation of the People Bill that’s currently going through Parliament: an amendment that calls for a commission to examine the subject, if nothing else.

I can’t help but think two things.

One … ?

That an actual change to the system — rather than just an enquiry that would take years — would be preferred.

And two … ?

I think those MPs are more worried about Reform doing well at a General Election, than they are about a fair democracy … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-5-2025 — Saint Lucifer

20th May, 2025: Saint Lucifer.

It’s official: it’s Tuesday.

And I’ve had a short dream.

No: not one as significant as Martin Luther King’s.

No.

I had a dream … about getting chased up and down the garden by a scary Jack Russell.

Quite what the dream — or Image Playground’s attempt to draw it — means?

I don’t know.

~≈🐶≈~

The US President is hoping for peace in the war between Ukraine and Russia.

At least he is … after a two hour phone call with President Putin.

I’m reminded of Neville Chamberlain: the UK Prime Minister who — in the run-up to World War Two — tried appeasing Hitler’s Nazi regime.

Which didn’t exactly work.

Frankly?

And knowing there’s a historical example?

I think the US President is on a hiding to nothing …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-5-2024 — World Bee Day

20th May, 2024: World Bee Day.

It’s officially official!

It’s Monday!

Yay!

Or possibly, ‘Yay’.

My weight management class is today: hopefully, I’ll’ve lost weight.

~≈Ó≈~

I know not everyone has access to the BBC’s iPlayer service: which is a shame.

Over the past weeks?

I’ve caught a series called Secrets & Spies: A Nuclear Game, a series that offers a potted history of espionage in the 1980s.

It’s very entertaining … and very informative!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-5-2023 — Cameroon.

20th May, 2023: Cameroon.

Yes: it’s officially official.

I have stuff to do, today.

After having to fart around on YouTube, rebuilding a playlist!

Dratted websites!

Quite why YouTube seems to be making playlists disappear?

I couldn’t tell you.

But it’s REALLY frustrating!

~≈!≈~

At any rate … ?

At any rate, I meant to show you a video.

An old friend has a Youtube channel: and … ?

In his most recent Judge Dredd read along?

Has a guest speaker.

I wonder who that is … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-5-2022 — World Metrology Day

20th May, 2022.

Right …

It’s a Friday: you’ve worked that out.

And that means that I’ve one of the monthly weight management meetings: in person.

Which is one hell of a long walk.

At any?

I’m thankful for the BBC’s Weather report page.

It tells me the rain should’ve stopped, by then.

Here’s hoping!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th May, 2021.

20th May, 2021.

I told you yesterday, that I have a hospital procedure, tomorrow.

I’ve got a hospital procedure, tomorrow.

So you know!

Given the nature of the procedure?

I have to fast for twenty-four hours.

Well … I say fast: more like on an extremely restricted diet.

Black tea, oxtail soup, water and jelly.

Orange or yellow jelly, for preference.

The dyes in red or purple jelly won’t play well with the procedures.

I was right in today’s intro video.

It’s not exactly going to be fun …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-5-2020

20th May, 2020.

Did I mention I did a survey for the UK’s Office of National Statistics, a couple of weeks ago … ?

I did a survey for the UK’s Office of National Statistics, a couple of weeks ago: asking about the Covid 19 outbreak.

It was relatively simple: and earned me an Amazon voucher.

Not something you can sneeze at.

So, when I got another one request from the ONS, asking for volunteers for swab testing, and threatening to give volunteers a £50 voucher?

I bravely stepped forward.

A £50 voucher is ALSO not to be sneezed at …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-5-2019: World Bee Day.

20th May , 2019.

Surprising news …

I’ve got Radio Four’s Today programme on: and they’ve just broken the news.

Google have suspended Huawei’s use of Google’s Android operating system: the OS that powers most of the world’s smart phones, and tablets.

After the US government blacklisted the Chinese company’s products.

Unless things change?   Current models will be relatively untouched: still receiving updates until — it seems — Google releases the next version of the Android.   Which is when Google’s services on Huawei smartphones stop.

Hmmm …

Guess which small time blogger’s got a Huawei phone … ?

Understandably?

I’m mildly concerned: I’m in no position to replace my phone, should I need to …

American Horror Story — Series 5: Hotel — Episode 12: ‘Be Our Guest’

20th May, 2018.

OK …

It’s a Sunday night …

But you’d possibly guessed that by … well … looking at the dates … and at the introductory video.

I don’t usually have the lights on, that early!

Or the music, quite frankly.

OMD album, Architecture and Morality is still a damn good album: even after all this time.

Souvenir?   Is still a song I want played at my funeral.

No, before you ask!   I’m not suicidal, thank you!

I just think it’s a suitable tune to play, and one I feel would set the right tone …

~≈§≈~

At any rate … ?

At any rate: I’m back at work, tomorrow night.

Which means I can sleep in late: comparatively.

AND not worry about staying up late to write a post.

About a TV show.

You’re right.

I’ve caught a TV show.

The last episode of American Horror Story: fifth series, Hotel.

Yes … that WAS rather good.

~≈§≈~

Episode 11Be Our Guest — opens in the wake of Liz and Iris (Denis O’Hare and Kathy Bates) murder of the Countess (Lady Gaga).

The pair have taken over The Cortez: and intend on try to spivvy it up.

AND attract paying customers: ones that Walk out alive, rather than get murdered by Sally (Sarah Paulson) and Will (Cheyenne Jackson).

It’s only with persuasive talking?

The ghosts decide to stop entertaining themselves.

Apart … from John Lowe (Wes Bentley.)

He’s wanting to make sure his family …

Have a home that’s NOT invade by TV crews …

~≈§≈~

Now …

I am decidedly sleepy.

Blame the heat!

But?

I’ve not been overwhelmed by Hotel: I think the emotional high point of American Horror Story has been Asylum, and working every hour I can has left me distracted.

But?

This series is up to the show’s overall standard, showing us a blend of solid writing, twisty ideas, and great performances.

Denis O’Hare, in particular, stood out for me.

Frankly?

Hotel’s a winner, as far as I’m concerned.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th May, 2018: Nicaea.

20th May, 2018

Quite literally it’s going to be one of this days.

For one thing … ?

For some reason, I couldn’t upload a photo, today.

At least, not at first.

Quite what’s going on there?

I really couldn’t tell you … !

~≈§≈~

Now … did anyone else catch the Royal Wedding, yesterday?

We (sneakily) had it on at work: in the background.

Obviously.

Frankly?   I know there’s been cynical comments about the couple.

But equally as frankly?   If Harry and Meghan weren’t a couple obviously devoted to each other?

I’m a duck!

~≈§≈~

I’m ALSO aware that I managed to miss what sounds like it was the highlight of the day: the sermon given by Bishop Michael Curry.

It sounds like it was quite the thing.

And, one day … ?

I’ll sit down and watch the whole thing!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-4-2017

Right …

Yesterday was nice: it was the first Friday off in a while.

I could’ve ended up in the pub: which I didn’t especially fancy.

Instead?   I’ve ended up watching more episodes of Mr Robot*.

Three more episode of Series 2, if you most know.

And … ?

Just so you know, the central character — Elliot, played by Rami Malek — is a seriously unwell — but very sympathetic — computer hacker: who has hallucinations of his dead father, played by Mr Robot.

One of the other characters?   Is Elliot’s sister, Darlene, played by Carly Chaikin.   She’s deeply cynical … but also sympathetic …

And VERY ruthless … !

She’s … getting nastier as the series progresses … !

Obviously … ?

There’s all sorts of stuff running in the family!
