I’m tempted to tell you I’m a potato.

Why … ?

If I knew that, I’d possibly know more about myself than I want to.

Identifying as a tuber — or otherwise — is possibly beside the point.

The point I’m trying to make … ?

Is that I’ve had my internet connection upgraded to a faster speed: and that, as a result, today’s videos has have taken a lot less time to upload.

That’s handy, appreciated … and something that will possibly impress my nephew, next time he’s here …

I have to admit, I tried watching a film, last night.

The 2024 folk horror, Lord of Misrule: with Tuppence Middleton and Ralph Ineson.

I have to admit, I gave up on the thing after about half an hour.

Despite — or possibly because of — its similarity to The Wicker Man, despite the beautiful setting, it’s something that couldn’t hold my attention.

Granted, having two teenagers bang on my door, at the twenty minute mark — they got the wrong address — didn’t help.

Even given that?

Lord of Misrule didn’t grab me!

That’s a shame: it’s beautifully shot!

I was rather interested in the technology news, at one point.

Mildly obsessed and evangelical, to be honest.

But still … interested … 

So … ?

Recent obscure news — that Denmark’s Ministry for Digital Affairs is planning to use forms of Linux and LibreOffice instead of Windows and Microsoft Office — caught my attention.

I’m assuming that a lot of that planned shift?

Is going to be based on cost.

The price of the computer you’ve just bought will include a certain amount for a copy of Windows*.

That amount will be far less for most forms of Linux.

MS Office will cost: even if you’re only paying a cheap subscription for the online version, it’ll cost.

Cost too much: especially compared to things like LibreOffice or OpenOffice, which are free.

But the ministry has also made another point: that they’re making the shift as a way to improve digital sovereignty.

Promoting Danish technology solutions to meet Danish technology needs, and reduce the control handed to foreign companies.

I can only hope that whatever UK government bodies — local and national — make the same sort of decisions, at some point.

It’s about time British governments, of whatever stripe, promoted British technology makers!

It’s now a Wednesday: and … ?

I managed to have a diabetic review, yesterday: along side a review of my medication.

Hopefully?

I’ll be able to get a replacement for the unavailable Trulicity* by Friday: the day I’m due to take it.

I’m supposed to be at my usual Monday morning weight management class.

And want to look into the Job Centre: to chase down a cancelled meeting.

And may need to head for my GPs: as a result of heading for the Job Centre.

All that … whilst staying indoors to let the Gas Safety Inspector in … !

I have to admit: I had a comparatively late night, last night.

Late for me, at any rate.

I was finishing up my of Coming Home: the last episode of Star Trek Discovery’s fourth season.

It took a while.

But?

It meant I was up late enough to catch the monsoon style storm that hit.

OK: you’ve watched the introductory video, haven’t you … ?

I hope so.

If you have, you’ll realise that — at the time I made the thing — I hadn’t made my mind up about what to watch.

Amongst other options?

I had both Lucas’ THX1138, and Besson’s Léon: The Professional.

Something I may catch, another time.

I’ve settled for the Peter Strickland directed Giallo-esque, In Fabric.

Yes: I’m going to bed, and carrying this post on, tomorrow.

But, yes: I think I’ve just seen something amazing …

Yes: it’s true.

I had the washing machine engineers out, yesterday.

From a local company called Mackfields, so you know.

Their engineers — two of them, I should add — turned up early: and immediately diagnosed the issue.

It’s dead!

Its a dead washing machine: bereft of life, it rests in peace!

They’re coming back on Thursday, at three, to replace it.

Hopefully?

The new one will last a few years …

That all depends on what I hear from the various companies involved.

Yep: it’s official … I’m getting my boiler’s thermostat replaced, today.

At some point between eight and one.

OK … that means I’m going to be stuck in doors, at a time I’d prefer to be out and about.

Still …

At least I can ask him if moving the thing’s possible.

Given the bad signal, that would be handy.

Which should be fun.

Although, frankly?

I’m going to have to see if we can’t watch something else on Youtube.

I don’t know about you, there’s only some much Slogoman and Jelly a body can take … !

Which reminds me … 

I’ll have to ask Ruth — Jude’s mother/my youngest sister — if we can connect her phone to my Mac.

We had trouble getting a video off of it: despite the fact Huawei’s connection software seemed to install itself.

I hate my guts!

Hmmm … 

Let me try and explain that, if I can.

I’ve started to suffer with bouts of stomach cramps: that my doctor’s linked to IBS.

To try and keep a lid on this?   I have to basically watch what I eat.   Some things set it off, basically, and some things don’t.

Yesterday?

Yesterday, as I was due to work from 16:30 to closing time, I had an early dinner.

A baked spud, pie, and some mixed veg.

Which set off my stomach: forcing me to phone in ill.

That’s … 

Understandably, that’s NOT something I’m happy about.

For starters, the box of pies concerned?   Were new: a brand I’d had before, with no problems.   Indeed, that was the second pie from a box of four.

The first one didn’t set off my stomach.

The second did!

So that’s one thing.

The other?

The other, and really annoying, thing?

Is that I’ve now lost eight hours work.

Being ill.

I am not a happy bunny … !
