Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd August 2026

3rd August, 2026.

Earworms … are insidious, sometimes.

But?

I don’t get songs banging around my head.

No: I’ll get the occasional word floating around in my mind.

At the moment, I’ve got the words, ‘yurt’, and ‘yonk’, filling the earworm shaped hole.

I still don’t know why this happens.

If I did … ?

Well, I’d possibly be rich … !

~≈🏕️≈~

At any rate … ?

It’s Monday: and the day for my weight management weigh-in.

I’m nervous: as my weight was up, last week.

I’ll have to see how it goes!

~≈⚖️≈~

I keep half an eye on politics: even is I’m not sure I can follow a political argument, or a party’s policies.

One thing I do know?

Is that some things can get very silly.

We have a by-election in Clacton, next week: called after the resignation of the (then) sitting MP, Nigel Farage of Reform.

There’s possibly lots to discuss: including the fact that Count Binface seems to be the only serious contender.

One thing I did notice, though … ?

Was a news piece from the BBC’s website.

A piece that tells us the ballot for the election is one of the longest in British political history.

I suspect Count Binface will do well off the back of that.

I believe that — in that situation — most of us wouldn’t wade through the complete list: would go for a name we recognise.

And that, given the names are in alphabetical order?

People will come across Binface well before they get to Farage.

I can only hope.

I’d love to see Nigel’s face, if he loses …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-8-2025 — Firestone

3rd August, 2025: Firestone.

Right, then … it’s Sunday.

And I’m looking forward to Tuesday: when the repair men due to fix my washing machine, turn up.

Washing my pants would be a good thing!

~≈🩲≈~

Underwear, aside … ?

I’ve finished my review of the most recent episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: it’s called “A Space Adventure Hour”, so you know.

I’ll admit to having my doubts about the episode, it has to be said … !

~≈🖖≈~

Something I heard on BBC Radio 4’s news, today … ?

Was that there’s calls for a ‘universal digital ID’: something Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, is said to be very keen on.

At least, going by this piece in the Observer.

Especially if it helps control illegal immigration.

I think the idea is basically sound.

But … ?

Very aware that you need a digital device for any digital scheme: a smart phone, a tablet, a laptop.

I’m also aware that if you’re an asylum seeker, or an illegal migrant, you won’t necessarily have one: like many of the elderly, and many of us on benefits.

Who’s going to provide the devices?   Especially ones that come programmed with languages uncommon in the UK?

Who’s going to help non-English speakers use these devices?   The old?   The dyslexic?

Where are the devices coming from?

A charity?   A local authority?

The government?

Where will the government get them, if it provides them?

Britain?   China?   Korea?   God help us, somewhere else?

It’s a good idea … but the practicalities need addressing.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd August 2024.

3rd August, 2024.

Right, then … it’s Saturday … !

Which means I’m a step nearer Tuesday’s colonoscopy.

Which … is fun!

~≈Ç≈~

I generally don’t approve of far-right politics.

It’s — they’re? — just a little too divisive.

I generally don’t approve of riots, either.

So hearing that — in the wake of the killings in Southport, on Monday — there’s been several riots, organised by various right-wing groups …

Is not something I’m happy about.

Partly … ?

I’m hoping these things don’t reach Brentwood.

We do have a mosque in town: something the rioters seem to have been targeting.

And … ?

I’d hate to see violence, whatever the motivation, on my doorstep.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-8-2023 — Tony Bennett.

3rd August, 2023: Tony Bennett.

Yes: there was a lot of yelling on the street, this morning.

At just gone six thirty.

A quick look out of the window told me what was going on: a chap over the road was getting arrested.

And carted off in an unmarked police car.

Why, I don’t know.

But it certainly adds interest to the morning.

~≈¥≈~

Hmmm …

Did I mention I’m on benefits?

I’m on benefits: so you know.

And … ?

It turns out that, in theory, I may be eligible for a disabled persons bus pass.

As the cataracts I have mean I may be partially sighted: and cannot drive.

OK, I don’t drive: I never passed my test.

But there’s a possibility I may to get that bus pass.

All I have to do … ?

Is get a letter from an eye specialist, to say so.

To do that … ?

I need to get a letter from my doctor.

Which may, unfortunately, cost.

We’ll have to see what happens, there.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd August, 2022

3rd August, 2022.

Yes: there’s sad news, today.

It seems that the next series of Mock the Week is going to be the last!

To quote the show’s host, Dara Ó’Briain?

“We just couldn’t be more silly than the news was already.”

Personally?

I’m very aware the show has a reputation for being very competitive …

But also think it’s a huge shame: the show’s a highlight of the week.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd August, 2021

3rd August, 2021.

Yes: it’s official.

The Work And Health Programme phone meeting I had, yesterday, went well enough.

With a couple of potential jobs found.

Whether I’ll hear anything from them is a whole other matter, though.

We’ll see.

~≈Ç≈~

Now … if you’ve Watched the video intro to today’s post … ?

You’ll realise I managed to catch a movie.

Sunday night saw me sitting down with Léon: The Professional: some ten years after I last saw it.

Gary Oldman is at his dribbling best.

Personally, though … ?

I’ve always found that central relationship between Léon and Matilda — Reno and Portman — the interesting one!

I’ve got one question.

To pass the time in Leon’s flat, Matilda  — Natalie Portman’s character — suggests a game where she and Leon pretend to be a celebrity: the other has to guess the star.

Matilda bursts into a rousing rendition of Like A Virgin …

Wearing someone else’s underwear.

Where on Earth did Leon get those … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-8-2020: Niger.

3rd August, 2020

Did I mention I had a tooth out, on Friday?

I did?

That’s possibly a good thing.

At any rate, I’m now having to do the next bit of the aftercare treatment.

Yep: forty-eight hours after having that back tooth out?   I have to sluice my mouth out, three times a day, with salt water.

I happy to go along with that.

The last time I had a tooth out, it led to a case of Bell’s Palsy.

Mostly, I’ve now concluded, as a result of me not following orders!

I’d rather avoid another!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-8-2019: Go West … !

3rd August, 2019.

You know, I have to confess to being tired.

Having managed to get to bed, lat, last night.

The reason I got to bed late?

Frankly, what with everything that’s going on, I wanted to eat a movie.

Eat?

Damn you, autocorrect, I meant watch a movie.

In this case?

“Well,” I hear you say?

“Was it worth it?”

Actually, yes: the visuals are something else.

~≈§≈~

Hmmm …

It seems Priti Patel, the new Home Secretary, and death-sentence-supporting* MP for Witham, has been interviewed by the Daily Mail.

And criminals to feel terror.

Hmmm …

I can’t help but wonder if anyone’s mentioned the 2000AD character, Judge Fear.

He possibly like the idea.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd August, 2018

3rd August, 2018.

Yes: it’s official.

I had a day off, yesterday.

And managed to find something new to watch.

Yep …

I’ve started watching Westworld.

To be frank, this first series to have a bit more to it than American Horror Story.

But then … ?

That’s like comparing a £1·50 burger to a £10·99 steak.

They’re both edible, both enjoyable.

But very different!

~≈§≈~

On a different front?

You may well be about my age.

With all the associated medical conditions, sullen resentments, bad habits, good habits, mess and filthy underwear.

Or, at least, regrets.

On of mine?

Simply the fact I only ever completed Atic Atac, the ZX Spectrum game, once.

Although it provided hours of fun in the process.

Recently?   There’s been attempts to revive the Spectrum: or at least, release a modern version, with remakes of the popular games.

Unfortunately?

The troubled Vega+, the best known of these?

Has now had to have the Sinclair, and Spectrum, branding removed: after Sky, the rights holder, insisted they do so.

As the Vega+ has only just started sending out (seemingly incomplete) versions of the console.

After some two years of arguing.

There’s quite a lot of disappointed retro-gaming fans, out there.

Frankly?

I’m one of them.

The Man in the High Castle — Series 1 — Episodes 5 and 6: The New Normal and Three Monkeys.

3rd August, 2017

You know, this SEEMS to be the week for damage, doesn’t it?

Doesn’t it?

I mean … the light in the kitchen, last week, the glasses, the other night …

And now … ?

The light in my hallway.

And guess what … ?

I’ve tried changing the bulb.   A bog standard bayonet bulb.   On a flex with a bog standard — apparently — bayonet fitting.

Which refuses to take the bulbs with the bayonet fittings I actually HAVE!

~≈Ÿ≈~

Yes, yes, yes: I’ve managed to do some online reporting, before you ask: and reported this to my landlord.

HOPEFULLY?

They’ll be able to get out, in suitably brisk form, and replace the fitting.

Standing on a ladder, trying desperately to replace a bulb, in the dark?

Wasn’t something I was expecting to do in the middle of watching my new favourite series, The Man in the High Castle.

Funny how evenings go …
