Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13th April 2026.

13th April, 2026.

OK, it’s officially Monday!

And … ?

I think that — once I’ve got home from my weight management class — I’ll go back to bed.

Early mornings can be a killer … !

~≈🕔≈~

Oh, did I tell you I’ve been playing around with Final Cut Pro?

I’ve been playing with Final Cut Pro.

And finally managed to work out how to make a project vertical, so I could make a YouTube Short on something other than my phone.

Here’s hoping it get’s a few views!

~≈📽️≈~

Did I mention I was floating around Wikipedia, yesterday?

I was floating around Wikipedia, yesterday: reading up about the Paul Hardcastle hit, “19”.

I knew most of the spoken audio came from a documentary: but hadn’t realised the documentary was called Vietnam Requiem.

Disappointingly?

The only version of the thing I could find on Amazon, was an out of stock VHS copy*.

It’s a shame it’s not on DVD or bluray.

Outside of the historical interest, it would be good to hear the song’s spoken parts in their original context†.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13th April, 2025.

13th April, 2025.

It’s officially official: and … ?

A morning after I’ve had a bad night’s sleep!

Quite why I was up and down, repeatedly heading for the loo, all night?

I really couldn’t say … !

But … ?

I only feel slightly tired.

Heigh … ho!

~≈🥱≈~

At any rate … ?

I managed to catch “The Robot Revolution”, yesterday.

The opening episode of Doctor Who is very watchable: and Varada Sethu plays a very assertive new companion, in the shape of Belinda Chandra.

Something I reiterated in my written and video reviews.

~≈👨🏿‍⚕️≈~

There’s a prisoner called Hashem Abedi: currently in a segregated wing in HMP Frankland.

Who … ?

Is being investigated after assaulting two prison officers with home made weapons … and hot oil.

How on Earth did he get hold of that … ?

From what little I know, the only way he’d get access to hot cooking oil would be if he was allowed to work in the kitchen by the prison officers.

How he was allowed to work in the kitchen, after carrying out a similar attack at HMP Belmarsh … ?

I don’t know.

But someone’s made a mess of something …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-4-2024 — The Spying Game

13th April, 2024: The Spying Game.

Argh!   I’m having a morning!

I was going to tell you I’d done a video review of the most recent Star Trek Discovery episode …

Then tell you that:
  • Varada Sethu — Cinti, from the Disney+ series, Andor — has been cast as a new companion: for Dr Who’s second season/15th series.
  • Star Trek Strange New Worlds is to have a fourth season.
  • Star Trek Lower Decks’ fifth season is to be its last.
Which is definitely sad to hear: Lower Decks is funny!

At any rate: I was going to tell you that …

Buy YouTube decided to hide my Teaser playlist for today: so I’ve had to make a new one!

Ho … … … Hum!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-4-2023 — Katyn.

13th April, 2023: Katyn.

Right …

It’s now, officially, Thursday: and … ?

I’m not a happy bunny.

Just over two weeks ago, I was at a tribunal: and managed to persuade the court of my case.

Waiting for the money, though … ?

Is very frustrating.

Oy … !

~≈◊≈~

At any rate?

My nephew was over, last night.

He’s a very observant lad, that one.

At any rate … ?

We’ve done another video … about Japanese KitKats … !

Feel free to enjoy the video …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-4-2022: Jefferson.

13th April, 2022.

It’s official: both the Prime Minister — Boris Johnson — and the Chancellor of the Exchequer — Rishi Sunak — have been fined: for attending parties during the COVID 19 lockdown.

They’ve paid the fines, and apologised to anyone who’ll believe them: but rejected calls for their resignations.

Somehow?   I’m not surprised.

Personally?   You and me breaking the rules — and paying a fine — is one thing.

But for people holding the highest offices in the country* … ?

I don’t know if they should.

But don’t think their apologies are good enough.

~≈Ç≈~

Did I mention my nephew, Jude, was here, yesterday?

My nephew, Jude, was here, yesterday.

And you can find out what he looks like in his most recent videos …

That’s him on the left, at the start of the first video …

For All Mankind — Series 2 Episode 2 — The Bleeding Edge — A Review

13th April, 2021.

This is a hell of a time to worry about it … but does anyone know if I’ve got a clean shirt?

No, forget I asked!

Right at the moment?   It’s a Tuesday night: a Tuesday night where I’ve seen another episode of For All Mankind.

A Tuesday where I’ve started this post: aware I’m going to finish it, tomorrow night.

I need an early night: as I have a doctor’s appointment, first thing in the morning.

An, at Two in the afternoon … ?

I’ve an interview: via Zoom.

Which will possibly go well … assuming my clean shirts still fit!

~≈👔≈~

14th April, 2021.

JUST so you know … ?   The shirt fit: although I don’t know if the interview went well …

Let’s just say — for now — there’s mismatching start dates.

At any rate … ?

Let me tell you about last night’s TV show …

~≈🚀≈~

Episode 2 — The Bleeding Edge — opens in the immediate aftermath of episode one: and shows us Molly Cobb (Sonya Walger) being checked over by Jamestown’s medics, and being debriefed by station commander, Ellen Wilson (Jodi Balfour).

And lying: about exactly how much radiation she took in the storm.

Ellen … ?   Wants to make sure, though: moving her return to Earth a day forward, and taking Molly — and Wubbo, the crewman Molly rescued — home with her.

Back on Earth … ?

Back on Earth, the Cold War is warming up.

With Ellen turning in a final report from the Moon, to a concerned Margo, Ed and General Bradford (Wrenn Schmidt, Joel Kinnaman, John Marshall Jones.)

Ellen makes no secret of her ambition to see her bosses launch a Mars mission: nor of Jamestown’s need for more plutonium.

Margo’s got problems of her own: with her boss, Thomas Paine (Dan Donohue), wanting to have a big happy handshake in space … and potentially handing the Soviet Union a lot more technology than she’s capable of handing over.

Just General Bradford is reluctant to hand her plutonium.

Later, at the Outpost?

We see Ed meeting with Gordo, and Danielle (Michael Dorman and Krys Marshall.)

Danielle … ?   After the death of her husband, Danielle has realised there’s nothing holding her back.

She wants to go back to Jamestown.

Ed’s happy …

Gordo … ?

Has a crisis …

~≈🚀≈~

What did I make of this episode?

I have to say, For All Mankind is …

Something I’m always impressed by is world-building.

World-building: the ability of fiction to build not just convincing characters, but a convincing setting.

Terry Pratchett did it, I think.

Several fantasy games have.

Watchmen certainly did.

So does For All Mankind.

I can even point to one phrase in this episode that some it up for me.

When Ed, Gordo and Danielle meet?

There’s that one magic phrase that gets used: that shows us these three have a history, together.

“Hi, Bob.”

If you didn’t know, it refers to episode seven* of For All Mankind’s first series: when the three were trapped on Jamestown.

It’s those little things that keep me hooked: as well as the big ones …

The personal issues, as well as the big picture.

Frankly?   I’m going to watching episode 3, on Tuesday.

I want to see more of those little things …

*        That latter goes to my video review of the episode.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-4-2021: Samuel Beckett

13th April, 2021.

It’s got to be said: lockdown has eased … slightly …

Or, at least, slightly enough for me to visit a barbers.

A new place in Brentwood High Street.

I’m not totally stunned with my trim: although, to be fair, it was comparatively cheap.

At least for around here!

~≈💈≈~

Oh … I’ve got the new external drive set up: it’s being backed up to as we speak.

And yes: it’s going to take another five hours, as I’m using it to back up both my main drive: and my external storage drive.

It’s going to take that long, as it’s a few thousand gigabytes …

~≈📀≈~

Drat … !

I forgot something.

I’ve managed to pick up two copies — one for keeps, one to play — of Rhianna Pratchett’s Crystal of Storms: one in a series of the revived Fighting Fantasy gamebooks.

I played some of the originals, back in the day.   So, given one of the game industry’s finest has done one? Given whose daughter she is?

Spending a little cash seemed wise.

I just wish I’d bought a pencil …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-4-2020: Monday

13th April, 2020.

It’s officially Easter Monday …

And life goes on.

Lockdown is still in place, here in the UK.

For many of us, that’s still frustrating.

There’s also a certain amount of sadness, as well.

As yesterday saw the death of comedian, Goody, and I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue panellist, Tim Brooke-Taylor.

The world’s a smaller place.

~≈†≈~

How are you with mis-selling?

A couple of weeks ago, I was looking for a gift for a friend.

And managed to buy three of these USB flash memory drives: from a third party Ebay seller called Fashionjiacl.

Supposedly, the things had a capacity of some two terabytes, 2000 gigabytes: roughly two thousand hours of video, depending on the format and resolution.

At the advertised price, two terabytes is a godsend: especially if you are unemployed, and don’t have much money to spend.

I ordered three: which took a while to get to me.

When they did?

I immediately start copying my Dr Who collection over to one of them.

My computer told me that would take some twenty-four hours, given the amount of data.

The data didn’t copy.

The stick — which was showing up both mo my Mac, and my Ubuntu MATE laptop, as a two terabyte drive — wouldn’t hold more than approximately thirty-two (32) gigabytes.

So … ?

I complained to the sellers: who — initially — only offered a thirty percent refund: roughly the price of one of the sticks I’d bought.

I told them this wasn’t good enough.

They then offered a thirteen pound refund.

I refused, again.

And told Fashionjiacl that, unless I got a full refund, I’d be reporting them to Watchdog, and writing a blog post about it, and reporting them to Ebay, itself.

Something I’m still thinking of doing.

They refunded the money: which arrived in my bank account, yesterday.

I’m happy with that.

But?

I’m left with a bad taste in my mouth.

For a start?

Fashionjiacl is STILL offering hooky USB sticks on Ebay.

They HAVE added a footnote to say the devices are not the advertised two terabytes, but nearer thirty-two gigabytes: at the bottom of the page, in the proverbial last place we would look.

Something they weren’t doing when I bought them.

I’m assuming the things would still show up as two terabytes in any computer they’re connected to: so any one buying them would have no way of accurately know what the things could hold, or are holding.

I will give Fashionjiacl credit for refunding my money.

But … ?

I believe they are guilty of mis-selling.

And, given that this sort of thing seems to be common?   It’s something I thought I should warn you about.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13th April, 2019.

13th April, 2019.

Now read on …

You know, that seems a very appropriate ending for an introductory video, doesn’t it?

And one I lifted … from …

Well, I know I got it from the late Sir Terry Pratchett: picking up, as he did so often, and re-using old cliques, with hammer, tongs and spanner.

At ANY rate … !

At any rate: yesterday … was a busy morning.

Meeting my Job Centre advisor, selling my tablet — along side an old phone — having a phone interview.

Which is where the good news comes in.

The phone interview I had … ?

Has led to a face to face interview, next Thursday.

Looks like I’ll be up early!

~≈§≈~

Something else I’ve seen crop up … ?

Is that Disney/Lucasfilms have released a trailer.

For the latest instalment of the Star Wars saga.

Which now has a title: The Rise Of Skywalker.

Which sounds … interesting, let’s put it that way.

The interesting bit, for me?

Is the release date: 20th December.

And where the trailer says, “The Saga comes to an End.”

Quite what that means for a potential Episode 10?

I really couldn’t tell you!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13th April, 2018.

13th April, 2018.

Morning, afternoon, evening …

Which is always something that’s mildly tickled me.

The sheer reach of Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar means I’m getting read by people across the planet.

By people across different time zones.

So … ?

Well … it’s tickled me.

But it does mean saying ‘Hello,’ in a video, rather interesting.

~≈§≈~

By the way, have you been keeping an eye on the news?

You’ll be aware — if you have — that there’s increasing demands for action against President Assad’s forces: in reply to his apparently use of chemical weapons against civilians.

Personally?

I really don’t care for the idea of the UK joining any such action.

There’s possibly lots of arguments for doing so.

Assad’s a nasty piece of work: and the war is harming civilians.

Wars ALWAYS harm and kill civilians.

But I personally feel there’s arguments against: even if they’re rather simplistic ones.

One … ?   Is simple precedent.

We did nothing after Saddam Hussain’s regime used chemical weaponry agains the small town of Halabja.

Even when the Western Allies invaded Iraq — in the First Gulf War — they went in being able to show the Ba’athist regime had invaded Kuwait.

Even the Second Gulf War — where the evidence of the regime’s ownership of weapons of mass destruction was extremely shakey — Tony Blair at least tried to persuade the Bush Administration that getting UN approval would be good publicity.

The situation in Syria, now?   And the West’s response to it?

I see there’s on-going investigations of President Trump’s election campaign: whether there was Russian involvement with the President’s campaign, or had Russian help.

I believe the West’s response to the situation in Syria has more to do with President Trump’s political problems at home, than it does with any defence of innocent civilians.

That it is spin, in other words.   It’s the Trump regime’s attempt to look tough on Russia.

That is NOT a good reason for military action, or for Britain’s involvement*.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Phew … !

13th April, 2017.

You know, I try not to regret things.

Really.

Regret is something I try and avoid.

I’d fair rather learn from my mistakes, make amends, and my apologies, where I can …

And move on.

I’d far rather do something, than sit around regretting.

There’s one regret I’ve got at the moment, though.

I’ve had today off.

And, as I’ve done for the past few weeks?

I’ve caught a film.

Yes, Phew is appropriate.

And yes …

So is regret …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-4-2017: I’m a Tyger

Right, I’ve made a start …

I’ver managed to get hold of an extra hard drive:  to replace a potentially failing one.

That’s been making intermittent clicking noises over the past few days.

I’d managed — last night — to make an extra Recovery Drive: something that do serious troubleshooting to a hard drive, in the event of failure.

I managed — this took a while — to re-start from that drive, and use the Restore From Time Machine to copy a my failing drive, to the new drive.

Only to realise that a Certain, Unnamed, Silly Idiot, and Local Character — Juggins here, in other words — had incorrectly formatted the new drive.

Ahem!

The practical up shot of all this?

At the moment, I have a new drive that’s been reformatted: ready to be used as a new main drive.

I have a new recovery drive: ready to let me install a clean version of Mac OS X Lion to that drive.

Only to find, both last night, and this morning … ?

That the main drive’s decided to stop click, and start behaving itself.

No, I don’t know why.

But I do know that — with the Recovery Drive and a spare hard drive in place? — I can take my time to do a fix.

And wait a little longer, until I’ve this week’s Easter Bank Holiday overtime money, to get the Install media.

The Daily Teaser — 13-4-2016

Ye gods, I’m tired!

I’ve got an early start, today.

So, of course, I’m up early: to try and squeeze out both today’s Teaser, and this week’s Weekly Teaser for the Gazette.

And, wouldn’t you know it … ?

I couldn’t sleep a wink, last night!

Isn’t that ALWAYS the way … ?

~≈Ÿ≈~

On the upside?

On the upside, this morning I’ve noticed — whilst uploading today’s Teaser video to YouTube — that there’s a new Penny Dreadful trailer up and running.

Personally?

I’m looking forward to it airing on 3rd May: the series is turning into something of a favourite.

I just hope I get time to catch it.

~≈Ÿ≈~
