Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 10-7-2020: Tesla

10th July, 2020.

I have to admit: I’ve actually got up this morning … waiting to go back to bed.

I’ll possibly have a siesta later: if I still feel the same way.

Frankly, though … ?   I’m thinking I’ve got a touch of eyestrain coming from somewhere.

That’s what happened when you wright two quizzes, a piece on digital poverty, and Lord knows what else, all in one go!

Oy …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-5-2020: The Waltz of Joan of Arc

30th May, 2020.

I often get earworms: songs playing their way through my head.

Right at the moment?   I’m drowning out the one I woke up to, with OMD’s Architecture and Morality LP.

Possibly one of the best they ever recorded.

Ignore everything after The Beginning and the End, by the way: those songs weren’t on the original track listing.

At any rate … ?   I work up with the word, ‘antagonist*,’ floating around my head: in the same way an earworm would.

The thing that got me?   Is that it sounded — to me — like the title of a bad western† …

Or possibly a Greek play.

Yeah …

It’s a bit early, isn’t it … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-5-2018: Joan of Arc.

30th May, 2018.

Yes: I went out, yesterday.

No, really!

Fully expecting to make an appointment at the GPs — to talk about my scan results.

Except … ?

Except it started raining when I got to the bus stop.   Which I figured would happen.   I had check the BBC’s weather page for my area, after all.

Except … ?

I ALSO figured it wouldn’t last long …

By the time I got off the bus … ?

The sprinkle of rain had got worse: turning into something vaguely approaching a monsoon-style torrent …

And leaving me, someone who’d foolishly left his coat indoors … ?

Drenched.

Frankly?   I avoided the doctors.

In the time it would’ve taken for me to get there … ?

I’d’ve dissolved … !

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets — A Review

27th May, 2018.

It’s true: I really can’t resist OMD’s finest thirty-seven minutes.

To the point where you’re getting sick of it!

To be fair, though … ?

It’s been a favourite for the past …

Well, since 1981, about the time I got is on cassette.

Along side From A to B by New Muzic, and one or two other things I won’t admit to!

At ANY rate … ?

I might just dig up Dazzle Ships or English Electric, next: just for a change of pace!

At any rate, and moving quickly along?

It’s a Sunday night … a Sunday where I wasn’t working.

Which means just the one thing.

Yes: I’ve caught a movie.

And yes: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is a mouthful!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-11-2017

Right …

It’s Thursday …

Which means several things.

Frankly?

I’ve got a day off, today.

That means?

I’ve got to get an early night, tonight: as I’ve got an nine o’clock start, tomorrow.

Which certainly implies just one episode of The Strain.   Par for the course, in one sense: it’s what’s been happening for the past couple of nights.

As a last thought … ?

I’m feeling slightly rushed.

As, at eleven, today?

I’ve an appointment at the dentist.

I’m feeling a little rushed: and nervous.

But hopeful.

I’m hoping it’ll be the day this tooth comes out … !

American Horror Story — Series 3: Coven — Episodes 4, 5 & 6: Fearful Pranks Ensue, Burn, Witch, Burn & The Axman Cometh.

16th September, 2017.

Hmmm …

Right at the moment?   I can safely say my media streaming box — a fourth generation AppleTV, if you’re asking — is getting some overtime done.

Right at the moment, I’m listening to the latest OMD album, The Punishment of Luxury.

I don’t know if I’m completely convinced,  just yet.   I still think English Electric was the better overall album: standing along side Dazzle Ships and Architecture and Morality as some of their better work.

Still … ?   Robot Man and Precision and Decay are good.

If you can find them, give them a listen!

The Daily Teaser — 16-5-2016: Electricity

Right …

It’s officially official.

I’ve got blood tests, today.

You’ll know — if you’ve been reading me for the past few weeks — my stomach’s been playing up.

Lord knows why!

But?

I managed to pay a visit to my GP, a few days ago: who’s booked me in for some blood tests: which is hopefully going to show any problems with kidney and liver function.

Oh, and double check on my thyroid, as well.

I’m also due an ultrasound scan, as well: again, to check my kidneys.

Here’s hoping this shows SOMETHING …

The Strain Series 1 — Episodes 9 & 10: The Disappeared and Loved Ones

Did I mention, last night, that I occasionally like music, when writing?

True.

Currently?

I’m listening to OMD’s Dazzle Ships: something of a favourite, and one I’ve not played for a while.

I may JUST move on to Architecture and Morality: whilst simultaneously avoiding Junk Culture.

Not that the latter’s a bad collection of songs.

It’s just a touch … you know …

Poppy … !

And poppy isn’t necessarily what I’m wanting to listen to, right now.

No.

Not when I’m going to tell I’ve just watched two more epodes of … The Strain … !

The Daily Teaser — 8-6-2015: World Oceans Day.

Oh … but I’ve got a day off … !

That’s a good thing.

The reason I’m up, comparatively early?   Is that I’ve got a doctor’s appointment, this morning.

Oh, nothing drastic!   I’ve an under-active thyroid: which I’m on medication for.   The appointment … ?

Is to follow up on the blood tests I recently had.

Here’s hoping they show nothing TOO serious happening … !

The Daily Teaser …

Now, that’s just weird.

Or a weird coincidence, at any rate.

Last night, I was listening to OMD’s Architecture and Morality, whilst finishing off a post about Merlin.

The weird coincidence … ?

Is that I’ve got the BBC News channel on, at the moment, and they’ve just announced that OMD are to reform, to record a new album.

Hmmm …

I think I’m going to have to see if the word synchronicity’s relevant …

‹‹‹~›››

Lets get moving on, shall we … ?

Yes …

Yesterday’s Teaser was a comparatively quiet one: but it did see Trevor putting in both answers — and scoring 5 out of 5 — and managing to dig up some quotes from Jeremy Brett: who died on 12th September, and who many considered to the definitive Sherlock Holmes.

Lets see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we? Here they are, along with the ‘How To’ and License

Q1) 13th September, 1503, saw sculptor, Michælangelo begin which of his famous statues … ?

Q2) 13th September, 122, saw work begin on which Roman monument … ?

Q4) 13th September, 1921, saw the birth of childrens writer, Roald Dahl: what was the name of his first published children’s book … ?

Q5) And finally … 13th September, 1440, saw which Marshal of France denounced as a serial killer … ?

And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 12th September, 1995, saw the death of actor Jeremy Brett, famed for playing Sherlock Holmes: who plays Holmes in the recent BBC series … ?

Q2) 12th September, 2005 saw what open in Penny’s Bay, Hong Kong … ?
A2) Disneyland Hong Kong.

Q3) 12th September, 1921, saw the birth of Polish science fiction writer, Stanislaw Lem: which of his novels went on to become a well known movie with George Clooney?

A4) Joaquin Phoenix.

Q5) And finally …12th September, 1846, saw prominent Victorian poet, Elizabeth Barrett, elope with … whom … ?

Enjoy those, everyone.

Now, if you’ll excuse me … ?

I’m going to look up OMD on YouTube …
