OK … I had my diabetic review, yesterday.

It seems I’m possibly doing well: at least, well enough for my surgery’s nurse practitioner to suggest we switch to six monthly reviews.

And to advise I keep a packet of Fruit Pastilles around, in case of emergencies.

That said … ?

I had my diabetic foot check at the same time.

I get the impression there’s nothing too badly wrong: although one our two things came up.

But?

My GP has messaged me, to say they’ve asked Basildon Hospital to book me a meeting with a consultant: to get the circulation in my legs checked.

Which I’m nervous about: I don’t want hear I need anything amputated, after all.

But … ?

Well … better safe than sorry …

On a totally unrelated theme … ?

I’m planning on heading into Romford, today: as I want to offload stuff at the Romford branch of CeX.

The train trip will be quick … !

I’ve got to confess to feeling mightily fecked off!

I had a 4k copy of Aliens turn up, yesterday.

And was looking forward to ripping it: then watching it.

But … ?

Trying to copy it with MakeMKV, seemed to give the app issues: regardless of which optical drive I used.

So … ?

I thought, as dinner was done, I’d eat: and be in a better mood when trying again.

Oh, and while I was at it … ?

I thought, I know: I’ll update my Mac to the latest version of the operating system, and see if that helps.

Which is when it really went pear shaped!

It seems that the current version of macOS — Sequoia 15.4 — is flawed: and has broken MakeMKV.

So badly that the developers behind it are working on emergency updates, to get the app working, again.

I’m fuming: and angry, and annoyed, and very frustrated!

Mostly at Apple!

I’ve public raved about Apple products for year: and they manage to wreck one of the best bits of software going.

I’m also very aware of the irony.

Especially as — going by MakeMKV’s forums — the version on Windows and Linux is working perfectly.

To paragraph a throwaway line in the original The Italian Job?

Get your wheels in line, Apple!

On other fronts?

The US president has introduced a pile of trade tariffs: in a move he claims will ‘Make America Great, Again.’

I can’t help but think he’s shot America in the foot.

And can’t help but think of one of Margaret Thatcher’s policies: allowing council house tenants to buy their rented homes … 

Which was partially responsible, years later, for a shortage of social housing: as councils didn’t plough the profits from the sales, back into more affordable housing.

I think the president’s started something similar.

Frankly, I’m not planning to make a song and dance out of it.

At any rate: it’s Wednesday.

Which means?

• I’ve turned in some paperwork for help from a fund run by Brentwood Council.
• I’ve filled in a form for help from Southern Council.
• And changed the details of my rent on a third form.

Gosh … I’ve been busy …

Is that there’s a new, Russian produced, film version of Orwell’s 1984.

I don’t know if I can get hold of a copy.

But it might be an interesting watch …

I’m just listening to this week’s edition of Tech Tent: the BBC World Service’s technology show.

Apparently, the Ukraine’s now legalised malicious hacking: presumably, on the condition that it’s against the country’s enemies.

The show describes this as unprecedented.

I’m going to disagree.

As I know perfectly well that officially approved criminals, acting against an enemy state, arguably have  a name.

It’s official: I’ve just finished chapter three.

Of my book at bedtime, as you ask.

Right at the moment, I’m reading is Ursula LeGuin’s The Lathe of Heaven.

I have to admit to falling in love with her prose, a couple of years ago: having re-read A Wizard of Earthsea.

The Lathe of Heaven’s a fascinating read, I should add: about a man called George, whose dreams turn into reality.

It’s … well, I hate to repeat a word, but ‘fascinating’ seems to sum it up well.

It’s officially official … 

macOS Mojave 10.14.4 is now available for users to install.

I have to admit, I’ve been expecting that: ever since the big show and tell at the end of March.

It’s all to the good … 

Although, frankly?

I’m hoping the update doesn’t through iMovie out, even further.

Can I make a mild confession … ?

I actually watched a TV show, last night: that I didn’t actually fancy reviewing.

Frankly?

I felt some thing of a break, there was in order.

And that the documentary concerned, The Yorkshire Ripper Files: A Very British Crime Story, wasn’t something I’d usually cover.

And I managed to binge watch all three episodes … at an hour a piece.

That said … ?

That said, the thing was … 

Was a fascinating watch: nicely summing up the terror one man managed to inflict on the UK.

The terror … AND the attitudes of the time … AND the behaviour of the police.

The mix of incompetence, bad practise, and inappropriate technology … ?

Made worse by the fact the man leading the investigation was convinced THAT tape was genuine?

Well …

I’m actually due a blood test, today.

At Brentwood Community Hospital.

One that ties in to the CT scan I’m due to have, next week: basically, the hospital need to check my kidney function, so they know they can do the test, safely.

I’ve got the card that tells Brentwood Hospital where to send the result.

But … totally lost the plot.

Or, at least, the card the tells me WHEN the appointment is!

Looks like I’m making a phone call!

I’m going to be taking her laptop in to a local computer shop: to get it repaired.

Actually … ?

That’s possibly pushing it.

But I finish, last night, at twelve thirty: and got to bed at half one.

And — obviously — got up way too early!

I think I’m paying for that.

Or, at least, my eyeballs are.

Comparing the way they feel to red-hot curried ice cubes is possibly the nearest way of putting it!

Hmm … 

Now, I’ve got to confess, usually — if I’m seriously impressed by a film — I’ll usually be itching to start writing about it, straight away.

As you’re no doubt VERY aware, if you’ve read my write-up of Pontypool*.

At any rate, I have to admit to having had a quiet night in, last night.

Along with quite a lot of tea … and a copy of the 2007 David Fincher directed whodunnitº, Zodiac.

Which, despite not getting the Immediate Post treatment, is definitely worth watching.
