Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th January 2025.

14th January, 2026.

A few weeks ago, now, the Government made a great fanfare of its proposed mandatory digital ID scheme.

Something that they implied would help catch illegal migrants working illegally in the UK.

It’s something I objected to: as did many others.

Personally?   I felt it would cost a fortune.

As I know a few people who could not afford to buy, set up or use, the smart phone needed for the app.

As far as I was concerned, the cost of buying someone a new phone, and helping them set it up, would be prohibitive.

Additionally?   The government didn’t realise that, if someone couldn’t afford the smart phone need for the scheme, they not be able to get a job, as they’d not be able to prove their right to work in the UK: whether they had that right, or not.

Thousands wouldn’t be able to get a job: despite being legally able to.

That’s before you factor in any privacy issues: or having to repeat this for other groups, for college students, the elderly or for those with learning disabilities.

Thankfully?

The government has decided to drop the scheme.

Or, at least, make it optional, rather than compulsory.

I’m thankful, and left thinking this government is like many others.

It doesn’t know its bum from its elbow.

In better news?

The t-shirts I ordered, finally turned up.

Custom ones that feature the covers for the old Games Workshop* version of second edition RuneQuest, and the fifth edition of Tunnels and Trolls.

I’m glad they got here: I was getting impatient.

But I’m also thinking one of them could cause a fuss …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-1-2025 — World Logic Day

14th January, 2025: World Logic Day.

Hmmm …

Did I mention I was at my weight management meeting, yesterday?

I was at my weight management meeting, yesterday!

And … ?

I’ve not lost weight: but I’ve not gained, either.

I’ve mixed feelings about that: after all, my weight’s been on a downward trend for the past few weeks.

It’s … well …

‘Hmmm … ’ seems to be the best way of putting it.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-1-2024 — World Logic Day.

14th January, 2024: World Logic Day.

Right … it’s Sunday.

A day I’m expecting to be quiet, peaceful … and possibly slightly boring!

We’ll have to see, there.

At any rate … ?

I’ve posted my written and video reviews of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: Mutant Mayhem, last night.

Feel free to have a look at them.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th January 2023 Teaser.

14th January, 2023.

It’s officially official: it’s Saturday.

Which means?   That I’ve got a night out, ahead of me: my youngest sister, Ruth, bought my nephew and I a night out at Wifi Wars.

Which sounds like fun.

I also have an admission.

I saw the Spielberg version of West Side Story, on Thursday: and posted my written and video review, last night.

And, as I said in that video?

Ariana DeBose, as Anita, put in one hell of a performance.

Doctor Who — The Evil of the Daleks: Episode 6 — A Review

14th January, 2022.

Right at the moment, I’m boiling potatoes: I’m cooking dinner, in other words, and making home-made chips as part of the meal.

So, of course, I’ve done the usual thing: chopped up a couple of spuds with a crinkle cutter, and put the things on to boil.

Before I roast them in the oven.

Which means … ?

Well, lots of things.

But it means I’m both nearer to getting fed: and nearer to watching episode six of classic Doctor Who story, The Evil of the Daleks, tonight.

If you’re reading this intro?   I should have my review up, by 15th January, 2022.

Here’s hoping it reads well … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-1-2022: World Logic Day

14th January, 2022.

Right …

I’m going to be stuck indoors, for the morning.

Yes: I’ve got the pest controller popping in, today!

Hopefully?

He’ll be here, early!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-1-2021: The Number 14.

14th January, 2021.

Yes: it’s Thursday.

And I’ve more food than I had, yesterday.

Quite what I’m supposed to be doing with that many spring onions, I don’t know!

At ANY rate … ?

I have to stay in, today: we’re expecting a repair man to look at the communal aerial.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th January, 2020.

14th January, 2020.

It’s official.

I’ve been to Chelmsford and come back still attached to my arms, legs, skin, head and … well, mostly everything …

I’ve had an interview, in other words.

Whether I’ll be successful, I don’t know.

But … ?

It seemed to go well.

~≈†≈~

Remember me mentioning that Microsoft are ending support for Windows Seven, today?

I happened to post about it on Facebook: in a Terry Pratchett fan group I’m in.

That mildly amazed me.

Mostly with the amount of responses.

Especially the ones mentioning they were using a version of Ubuntu.

Which I’ve not used in years.

Frankly?   This is where unemployment hurts: it’d be nice to have a cheap laptop around, so I could have a go on the system …

~≈†≈~

And, just as a final thought … ?

I’ve got Taco’s version of Puttin’ on the Ritz ear worming its way through my head.

Arrrggghhh!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th January, 2019

14th January, 2019.

Yes: it’s officially official … I’ve taken a brief few sneak moments, this morning, to quickly watch the video — or one of them — for the Bangles hit, Walk Like an Egyptian.

All well and good.

But saw the poses, there: the one that try and reproduce the ones on Egyptian tomb paints … ?

And immediately wondered where Wilson, Keppel and Betty, where …

~≈§≈~

Just as a quick thought … ?

If you, like me, are in the UK, and listening to the news … ?

You probably can’t escape Brexit.

I voted remain, to be honest: and still believe that leaving will be bad for the UK.

There is, thought, still talk of several things.

A second referendum being one of them.

Personally, I’d like one: and hope it would get a remain result.

As, right at the moment?

Leaving seems to be causing a good, old fashioned riot.

I do know one speculated form for any second referendum would take the form of two referenda.

The first would be a rerun of the 2016 vote.

Should we remain, or leave the EU?

If the result is leave, a second referendum would ask people what form of Brexit they want: hard Brexit, No Deal, the May plan, what have you.

Right now?

I think there’s no time to arrange this.

But it’s possibly the form the thing should’ve taken in 2016.

David Cameron and company should have said what sort of Brexit they’d push for, if they lost.

That way?   People would have more information to make a decision.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th January, 2018

Right …

I’ve officially managed to wangle a work on a Sunday.

Which is unusual: given that they drop in hours that started last year?

Started around this time.

Frankly?

Getting the extra day, helps.

I’ll have to see what happens.

~≈É≈~

I’m also — it has to be said — looking forward to this week’s Star Trek: Discovery.

The show’s come up with one hell of a twist: in setting a couple of episodes in the franchise’s Mirror universe.

The second is this week.

Here’s hoping it’s good!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-1-2017

That’s a thought: one that started bothering me, last night.

Bits of paper …

Bits of paper, right?   Keep that in mind, ok.

I work in a call centre: and, at the end of each calm, try and make sure the caller walks away with the call reference number.

That way?   If they want or need to chase up the call, later, they can quote the number, and we can look it up, much more quickly.

During those initial calls?

One of the last things I do … ?

Is ask people if they have a pen and a piece of paper.

So they can write that reference number down.

What always surprises me?

Is the amount of people who need to go and find a pen: which is understandable, you can never find one when you need one.

And on top of that?

The amount of people who can never find a piece of paper.

Surprising?   Yes, of course it’s surprising.

I’m both human … and a man.

And, like a lot of men, I’ve got a wallet.

With half a ton of receipts in it: that I never get around to throwing away.

You can’t in all honesty, tell me you can’t find a piece of paper … !

Oy veh!
