Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th December 2025.

18th December, 2025.

You know, console games are getting popular.

What do I mean, ‘getting popular’?

They’ve been around for a while, after all: and my nephew, Jude, is frequently on his.

And was a regular player of the FIFA range of football games: until licensing changes meant the game stopped being manufactured, and was replaced by EA Sports FC.

My nephew kept playing the ‘new’ game: recording, editing and posting, them to YouTube.

So … ?

He was mildly interested to hear that FIFA — football’s world governing body, and the body that licenses the sport to manufacturers — are, once again, going to license the sport out to manufacturers.

Or, at least, licensed it out to Netflix: so it can only be played if you have a Netflix subscription, on either a smart phone, or on some smart TVs.

It’ll be free to play for Netflix subscribers.

Quite what Jude will make of that, I don’t know.

We’ll have to see …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th December 2024.

18th December, 2024.

Just for once … ?

I’ll give my landlords credit.

Or, at least, their boiler repair team.

The repair man turned up around lunchtime, and was done inside of forty minutes.

Apparently?

What he called the pressure vessel — a balloon-like bag that maintains the water and steam pressure — had failed.

I wasn’t surprised.

It was something that frequently happened to my old Potterton boiler: and for boilers used by my neighbours.

I was surprised about how quickly the chap turned: and how quickly the repair took.

And pleased that the thing’s now working: and keeping my flat warm.

Heigh ho!

~≈⌚️≈~

Something I’ve noticed in the news … ?

Is simply that Elon Musk is in talks with Nigel Farage’s Reform Party: about funding.

I know foreign interference in British politics is common.

As is British interference in foreign politics.

That doesn’t make it right, nor does it make it any less objectionable.

But … ?

I will give Russian, and Chinese, operations credit: for at least trying to keep their activities, discreet!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-12-2023 — International Migrants Day

18th December, 2023: International Migrants Day.

Right ... just for once ... ?

I've not got to get up early on a Monday morning.

Because?

Because my weight management class is cancelled: until the second Monday in January.

That's something I feel mixed about.

No: my weight's not being monitored.

Something I'm mildly anxious about: but can at least check, at home.

But, yes: it does mean I get an extra few hours sleep.

That's something to be thankful for.

~≈⸸≈~

As a brief thought ... ?

I've made a video: to thank people for the help they've given towards the iMac repair fund.

It's also an attempt at some sort of financial transparency.

To explain to everyone who's helped, what I'm planning to do with any excess, should the repair be both successful ... and I have any!

I'm planning to get extra back up: cloud and physical.

And insurance: I'd hate to do through this again!

But, as a last thought ... ?

I'll say it again, to those who've helped.

Thank you: you've been life savers!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-12-2022 —Michael Moorcock.

18th December, 2022: Michael Moorcock.

Yes: it’s official.

The BBC’s Doctor site has released video of Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th Doctor costume.

The overall look’s good.

But my first thought … ?

Was that the orange shirt was a bit loud.

Which is possibly a little hypocritical.

When I never said a word about Colin Baker’s outfit!

~≈Ç≈~

Oh, Jude’s been over: fun, sandwiches and Oreos were had.

And — as you’ve possibly guessed by now — a video was made.

Hitting like — and subscribing — would be nice.

I’d like to see him getting to 220 subscribers!

~≈Ç≈~

Oh, just in case snyone’s following me on @Mastodon.world?

I’ve posted a photo!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-12-2021: New Jersey

18th December, 2021.

It has to be said, I had my regular weight loss clinic, yesterday.

Which is — as ever — one hell of a long walk.

I know some of the houses on route are lovely to look at: but ever so, it’s quite a stroll.

Happily?   I’ve lost half a kilo: just over a pound, in other words.

That’s good.

~≈Ç≈~

The other bit of news?

I’m diabetic: I’m sure I’ve mentioned.

And — according to the call from my GP’s practise nurse, yesterday? — my blood sugar level’s gone done: from whatever it was, to seventy.

It’s still not at the fifty-three they feel it needs to be, though: so they’re doubling the amount of Forxiga I’m on.

You have to love a medication that cause gangrene!

~≈Ç≈~

Just as a last point?

I’ve been watching classic Dr Who series, The Evil of the Daleks, over the past couple of Fridays: and caught episode two, last night.

The animation work is amazing.

Compared to their look in The Power of the Daleks?

The detailing is amazing!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th December, 2020.

18th December, 2020.

Yes: I’ve got an earworm!

Dratted thing!

On a more serious note?

On a more serious note, and for the course I’m supposed to be doing … ?

I’ve got the laptop, I’ve got the needed extensions installed, I’ve signed up for an Outlook account, and the free web version of MS Office …

But?

In order to do the one last test I need to do, before I start the course, proper … ?

I need the activation code for the copy of MS Office on the laptop.

I could pay for it.   Not at £120, I’m not!

I could use the free trial: the course doesn’t need the desktop version, just the test.   Frankly, handing more of my details to Microsoft for a half hour test is … objectionable.

Or I could email my landlords for the thing: which they really should have included in the first place!

To quote the old saw?

It’s one damn thing after another.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-12-2019: UN Arabic Language Day

18th December, 2019

Right: it’s definite.

I’ve finished the course.

I’m unemployed, so you know.

And?

As well as well as monetary help, I get occasional help extra help.

In this case?   I’ve had help: from a course designed to help with basic CV writing, interview technique, what have you.

I’ve now officially finished: a day or two early,

Whether it helps me find a job?   Is a whole other question.

But at least I’ve finished it, and can add it to my CV.

~≈¥≈~

Have you got any spare sticky tape?

Sellotape, in other words: rather than Durex*, bondage tape, lingerie tape, surgical tape or duct tape!

I was going to wrap up the very few Christmas presents I’ve been able to afford, this year.

Please not, I say was.

Ha!

It wasn’t until I went to look I realised I’d run out of sticky tape.

Hey …

Ho!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-12-2018: UN Arabic Language Day

18th December, 2018

Yep: it’s going to be a long day, today.

Technically?

I’m getting funding to pay for a provisional drivers license, today.

The distracting part?

Unnoticed by me, my router went down.

It was only when I checked the Menu Bar … ?

That I noticed the Wi-Fi logo had vanished: and that I thought to check my connection.

Cue ten minutes of swearing …

~≈§≈~

All that disappearing Wi-fi … ?

Whilst I was recording the intro for today’s Teaser!

Which is the thing I wanted to tell you about.

My case-worker over at the Job Centre has approved funding for me to put in for a provisional driving license.

Assuming that’s gone through?

That now means I can get the ID photos done, signed, and sent off with the form, and postal orders.

Hopefully, once that’s done?

It’ll turn up, quickly.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th December, 2017

Right … that’s the day off done with.

And Aunty Bella visited.

Bless, she’s not getting any younger: but she still has her mind.

And sense of humour.

The one sad part of the day?

Was that we couldn’t persuade her to spend Christmas at ours.

I’d hopefully, we can persuade cousin Julie and her husband to bring her over at some point.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18-12-2016

Hmmm …

I’ve just had a quick look at the BBC’s News pages.

Communities Secretary, Sajid Javid has floated the idea that civil servants should swear an oath to uphold British values.

Hmmm …

Right now?   Right now, I’m wondering which ones he’d include.

He speaks of democracy and freedom of speech.

But cynically think there’s plenty of others he wouldn’t include.

You know the ones.

Selling stuff to make HUGE amounts of cash: regardless of the damage the objects are doing.   The Opium Wars were basically a huge squabble launched when Imperial China refused to let the UK sell its citizens lots of opium.

Anti-semitisism and racism are others: there was a hell of a lot of support for Nazi Germany in Britain, before the war started.   And a lot of hate crime still being reported.

Oh, and anti-catholic sentiment: what on Earth is Bonfire Night all about?

British Values.

You have to love a wooly phrase …
