Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-9-2025 — The Queen Elizabeth.

27th September, 2025: The Queen Elizabeth.

I posted a Teaser about T. S. Eliot, yesterday.

Which you possibly knew, if you’ve been reading this blog for a while.

Thank you, and well done, to everyone that took part!

In the introduction … ?

I talked about my concerns about the Prime Minister’s proposed digital ID scheme: an ID scheme designed to prove a person is eligible to work in the UK.

I feel the scheme is unwise

Mostly, because I feel there’s a significant number of people on Universal Credit — the people that need jobs — will be unable to afford a smartphone.

Nor be confident enough to use it, were one provided.

I’m thinking mostly about the cost, here, as a first hurdle.

If I don’t have a smart phone, but have to have one for the ID?

Where am I getting the money?

Is Keir Starmer putting his hand in his pocket, and giving me the cash?

Who’s setting the thing up for me?

Job Centre staff are supposed to be helping me back to work: not doing technical support.

Who’s showing me how to use the thing?

You get my point!

So … ?

I make a video: aimed at the PM, mentioning him by name, and tweeted past Number 10’s X account.

Will it have an effect?

Beyond getting a few boosts on Mastodon.world?

I don’t know.

But feel that being one voice amongst many, on this important subject, is a good thing.

~≈Å≈~

A very good thing.

There’s a petition about it on the UK’s government’s website: one that — as I write — has 1,613,944 signatures, and is increasing every time I look at the page.

Every signature helps.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-9-2024 — Michael Gambon.

27th September, 2024: Michael Gambon.

Right …

That Amazon delivery finally turned up, yesterday.

After being delayed … and me complaining as a result.

Frankly?

I’m glad I did.

I managed to get the delivery charge refunded, if nothing else.

That … ?

Should turn up on Monday.

~≈🚚≈~

Did I mention I had to attend a tribunal, yesterday?

By phone?

To see if I qualified for extra financial help.

I felt it went well enough: although, inevitably, there’s things I felt I should have mentioned … and didn’t get the chance to.

And things I tried to stress: but felt weren’t taken account of.

At any rate … ?

I was told I’d hear, by post, ‘early next week’.

With that lot out of the way?

I’d like to thank two friends — Sophie and Graham — who’ve offered advice about the process over the months.

And Carly: who’s offered both advice and encouragement.

And too Louise, on Facebook: who, in one comment, told me the results could be in, early: and be listed on the website, if that was the case.

She was right.

It seems I’ve been awarded a back-dated award.

I still — as far as I know — need to get the letter as confirmation.

And, I’m told, a call from the Department of Work and Pensions, to check on bank details.

The sooner that lot happens?

The happier I’ll be.

Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar — 27th September 2023.

27th September, 2023.

Right then …

It’s Wednesday: and … ?

I’m thinking a movie would be good.

But … ?

I’m also thinking I’ve got the next episode of Ahsoka, lined up.

We’ll just have to see what happens, won’t we … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th September, 2022.

27th September, 2022.

It’s officially Tuesday … !

Which means … ?

Not a lot.

Beyond the fact I have a phone meeting with my Restart case worker, this morning.

Which I’m looking forward to: she usually manages to find something to apply to.

~≈Â≈~

JUST as a thought … ?

I had my nephew over, last night: desperately not wanting to do his homework!

I managed to persuade him that doing it* before we made his latest video, was a good idea.

It would get it out of the way, and get him a bar of chocolate.

Bribery, pizza and making his latest video after getting his homework done?

Seemed to work.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th September, 2021.

27th September, 2021.

Why on Earth did that happen … ?

I got an early-ish night, last night.

With a book.

Ian Fleming’s Goldfinger, in case you’re interested.

And managed to get to sleep a little later.

Until someone rung my doorbell: at quarter past midnight!

Quite who that was, I don’t know: I wasn’t exactly going to get out of bed, at that time of night!

Whoever it was?

I hope they sorted out whatever they problem was.

Because they weren’t getting help from me.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th September, 2020

27th August, 2020.

Argh!

I hate that!

I prep up a video.

One telling you I’m going to have a posh lunch to celebrate my sister’s birthday on Thursday …

And than spill my tea: spending twenties minutes mopping up.

Oy veh … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th September, 2019.

27th September, 2019

Yes: I’ve got an earworm going through my head.

And, yes: it’s from Japan’s only heavy metal Idoru band, Babymetal …

Why it’s been banging through my head over night?

I really don’t know.

I’m just — still — wondering why on Earth the band have a state of the Virgin Mary at the back of the stage … ?

If you’re in the UK, you’re possibly aware of the Brexit situation.

One thing that caught me?

Was Boris’s Johnson’s recent statement in Parliament: saying that best way to honour the late Jo Cox, MP, was to “get Brexit done.”

Personally?

I felt that was a bit nasty.   Especially as Jo Cox was killed because she was openly supporting remain.

The other?   Was and is the various reports that various MPs are being targeted — by hardline left and right wingers — with … …

Let’s call them threats of violence.

What really caught my eye?

Were comments from controversial government advisor, Dominic Cummings: that anger at MPs was “… not surprising.”

He’s right, there, I think: even though he’s not the type of person I’d agree with.

What’s worrying me, here, though?

Is this.

We in Britain aren’t usually ones for violence.

Oh, we’ve had small scale violent behaviour: for years.

We’re a passionate people: up to and beyond the point of fatalities, at times.

What worries me?

Is this …

Will we get violent enough to start killing … ?   To start a violent, mass uprising?   One with fatalities?

God, I hope not.

That’s really not a country I want to live in.

Nik Oak’s Daily Teaser — 27-9-2018: World Tourism Day

27th September, 2018.

Right …

I was going to include a picture with today’s post.

AND a video.

But right now … ?

Blogger seems to be playing silly buggers: and refusing to upload photos and videos directly to the page where we draft our posts.

I’m using Safari version 12, on macOS 10.14, have cleared my caches and history.

What’s happening?

I’m blowed if I know.

(Would you know it, by the time I get to finishing the post … ?   The issue’s corrected itself …)

~≈§≈~

As a follow up though?   And something I know I mentioned on the write up I did about The last few episodes of American Horror Story’s seventh series, Cult?

I’m … facing a crisis at work.

As I’ve mentioned already, I’ve been rota’d for just one shift, next week.

That leaves me with a horrible dilemma.

Do I leave work?

Yes, it’s now basically uneconomic to stay.

But the horrible thought is that — should I hand in my notice, or walk out — I face having any benefits suspended.

However temporarily, that’s not something I relish.

I don’t face that problem if I’m sacked.   Which doesn’t look good on the CV.

Nor do I have that problem if I’m laid off.

You can possibly see where I’m heading, can’t you?

I’m thinking asking management to lay me off would be a good idea.

Thoughts, please!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-9-2017: Searching for Engines

Ha!

You’ve possibly worked out I’m something of a Mac fan, over the years.

Turning it into the tech fan’s equivalent of football thuggery.

And meant seeing historical footage of former Microsoft CEO, Bill Gates, bigging up the Mac platform something to see.

Not something that would happen, these days, I think.

He’d not even get an iPhone.

Not ON iPhone.

As it turns out, though?

He has bought an Android job.

Which probably tells you what he thinks of Windows phones … !

~≈Ê≈~

On top of all that … ?

I’m happy at work.   No, really.

I’m happy at work.   But HAVE had the occasional issue: where the hours go up and down.

Which is why I’m happy I’ve got tomorrow off.

It meant that, should someone at a local taxi firm suddenly want to interview me for a call centre agent job, they can.

It’s at eight in the evening: tomorrow!

Nervous doesn’t even START!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-9-2016

Oh, my lord …

But that was a trip … !

I had an interview, yesterday.

In Romford, so you know: four stops down from Brentwood, on the Southend Victoria/Liverpool Street line.

I get the train into Romford, found the branch I was due to be interviewed at, had the interview — which went well, but I find out for sure on Friday — and headed back to Romford station.

Only to find that, literally minutes before I got there someone had fallen in front of a train: in Goodmayes.

And managed to delay everyone’s trip … by anything up to three hours.

Right now?   Getting the bus back to Brentwood — and boy, I’m thankful the 498 bus accepted the TfL train ticket! — was long, and inconvenient trip.

I think I’d’ve bee a lot angrier about that, had I just finished a days work in Romford!

Outpost: All Quiet On the Eastern Front …

27th September, 2009.

Good Lord! I’ve found my remote control!

No, seriously, Tim, I’ve found the remote control Tom managed to mislay!

Mostly because Steve managed to sit on it, tonight!

Mostly, because Allison insisted on the big chair, tonight, it’s easier on her neck.

Me and Adrian just had our usual ones! I just think it’s a shame Paul didn’t stay with us, tonight, I think he’d’ve enjoyed tonight’s movie.

The Steven Barker directed action/horror — and Scottish produced — film that is Outpost.

And when I say produced, it seems it was down on something of a shoestring budget.

Not that you know it.

Well, you’d notice …

But you wouldn’t mind …
