Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-6-2026 — “The Dreaming City” (Ten questions)

7th June, 2026: “The Dreaming City”.

It’s officially official: I’ve missed mentioning something!

Yes: I’ get a mention in a Dr Who video … !

Well … I get a mention in @SaltyHammond’s review of Terror of the Autons.

I’d suggested covering The Abominable Snowmen in his next video: I’m looking forward to that!

~≈▶️≈~

Talking of videos?

My nephew, Jude, was over, yesterday: thoroughly some of the sillier sound effects in Final Cut Pro.

See if you can find the comedy honking noises!

~≈🪿≈~

Just as a last thought … ?

I’ve got Meatloaf’s Bat out of Hell on in the background.

The man’s death was a waste … but we can take a certain measure of comfort in one thing.

In recording the thing, he made one hell of an LP!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-6-2025 — Midway.

7th June, 2025: Midway.

It’s officially official!

My nephew, Jude, was over last night: and made a video.

Feel free to hit the ‘Like’ Button, folks: he’d appreciate it.

~≈🧒🏼≈~

Finally … I managed to see my sister’s laptop!

Unfortunately … ?

To a local tech re-seller: rather than to an individual.

It means less money: but at least the job’s done.

Now all I have to do … is take down the adverts …

~≈💻≈~

A few weeks ago, the US deported a chap called Kilmar Ábrego García to El Salvador.

Mistakenly claiming he was in the country, illegally.

Today … ?

The US government’s decided to bring him back to the US … as they’ve accused him of people trafficking.

Could you make up?

You could.

Really, you could.

But … ?

People would accuse you of being unrealistic …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-6-2024 — World Food Safety Day

7th June, 2024: World Food Safety Day.

Right … it’s Friday …

Which means … ?

It’s the day after the D-Day commemorations.

A set of commemorations that saw Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, leaving early to record an interview.

And, as a result?

Having to issue an apology.

I know elections are important to politicians …

But the optics of that, don’t look good.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-6-2023 — The Decision.

7th June, 2023: The Decision.

Damn …

But listening to Radio Four can provoke earworms, can provoke a song to play it’s way through your head.

I had the Today programme on, earlier.

Which featured a report by Elaine Dunkley.

Me being me … ?

I immediately thought of the song, “Ok, Fred”.

By Errol Dunkley.

You can see the way my mind works, can’t you … ?

~≈👨🏻‍🎤≈~

Oh … videos …

Jude’s started a new channel: about his pet rabbit, Mikey.

You can find it: here!

Feel free to subscribe: and watch his two videos …

Oh … and an old friend’s done another video about Daleks.

I’m wondering if his guest speaker’s knows something I don’t …

~≈🤪≈~

And, JUST as a final thought … ?

You’re possibly aware I thingie, do-dah, wossname, yurt!

Let’s do that again!

You’re possibly aware I’ve been using one of Apple’s Mac computers for for some time.

So I keep an eye on the big announcements at each year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, the WWDC.

Alongside a LOT of new Macs*?

They’ve announced macOS Sonoma, the new version of the operating system: and told us it’s due to be released “in the fall”.

Unfortunately?

The new OS has dropped support for my older model of iMac.

Something that’s disappointing: but not surprising.

I was expecting them to drop support in Ventura, to be honest!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th June, 2022

7th June, 2022.

Right … for once, it’s sunny enough to go out … without getting wet!

We have a sunny day, out: which means I can get a few bits and bobs, without getting damp.

Which is definitely nice.

Especially?   As the next couple of days are going to be busy!

Hygeniest, physios and phoning my GP: after recent ultrasounds and x-rays.

The hygienist and physic won’t be too bad.   But test results?

Well … they’re always nerve wracking, aren’t they?

~≈Ç≈~

I have to admit, I’m watching — but not reviewing — the first series of The Book of Boba Fett: and caught an episode, last night.

The Return of The Mandalorian.

It’s a good, watchable, episode.

But, given it focuses on the main character of The Mandalorian?   It should have been in that series: not The Book of Boba Fett!

The only bit of the episode that needed to be in the Temuera Morrison led show, was the last five minutes!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-6-2021: The Vote.

7th June, 2021.

I think I need to look at that laptop’s settings, I really do.

Just as an experiment … ?

I managed to record a video on the new laptop.

Which seemed loud: but worked well enough.

Once I got the file to my Mac … ?

We had a file with video … but no actual audio.

Zip.   De nada.   Diddley — excuse the phrase — squat … !

I double checked.   Yes: the original file, on the laptop, played.

On the Mac?   It didn’t.

Or, at least, didn’t with QuickTime and vlc.   But did with iMovie: thankfully.

It seems the .mp4a audio codec won’t play on QuickTime and vlc … until they get updated …

I’m going to have to have a look at that …

~≈🧹≈~

Oh, as an extra thought … ?

I’ve had a new set of exercises through.

I’m going to be marching on the spot for a while …

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels — Series 1 Episode 7 — Maria and the Beast — A Review

7th June, 2020.

Yes: I have been stuck indoors!

Waiting for a boiler repair man.

Long story: but basically?

The thermostat’s gone home!

I hate being stuck indoors … but sometimes, you can’t avoid it.

At any rate … ?

At least I could catch some TV.

You’re right.

Another episode of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’s first series.

~≈†≈~

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th June, 2020

7th June, 2020.

It’s officially the case … I need a repaired boiler!

Remember, at the start of the year, I had my old boiler replaced with a new one?

Well … it seems that — after a recent brief powercut — the thermostat’s gone.

I can access hot water: just.

But have no heating.

Again.

It would happen now, wouldn’t it … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-6-2019: The End Of May.

7th June, 2019

Yep: Thursdays  are turning into something of a tradition.

Yep: my nephew, Jude … ?

Like’s making video.

Even if he does dry up in front of the camera … and have a Dominoes fixation …

Ahem … !

~≈§≈~

I have to confess, I’m … mildly sad today.

I was never a big fan of Dr John: but today?

Saw news of his death reach the UK.

Like I saw: I wasn’t a huge fan.

But?

I got sent a copy of his first album, Gris Gris, many years ago.

If you’ve not heard that?

It’s unlike anything I’d heard.

If you’ve not listened to it?

Well …

Now is possibly the time …

The man is no longer with us.

His music?   Coming out of a Louisiana swamp?   Is.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th June, 2018.

7th June, 2018.

Yes: it’s officially official …

In amongst other things: an extensive film collection, a job, an entertaining nephew … ?

I have … a crap phone!

One that’s only a few months old.

I got it — on offer, I should add — to replace an older Sony: one with an ageing battery, and not a lot of RAM.

I could only afford to replace it … with a cheap Alcatel with a newer battery … and the same amount of storage.

Both … ?   Run out of storage the minute I open the Facebook app.

One day … ?   I’ll have the cash to make the choice: of exactly WHAT phone to replace it with.

Right now?   I’m wondering whether I should delete the FB app!

~≈§≈~

While we’re ON technology?

I had a ZX Spectrum, when I was young.

So followed the story of the troubled ZX Vega⁺ — a remake backed by no less a person than Clive Sinclair, himself — with a certain amount of interest.

Unfortunately?

It seems Indiegogo has called in the debt collectors: as Retro Computers, that company behind the Vega⁺?

Have defaulted …

Amidst increasing internal arguments: and no sign of any working devices …

That’s a blow for us that would have loved to see the thing succeed.

Martyrs (2008) — A Review: That was intense …

7th June, 2017.

Hmmm …

How are you with films?

Sitting and watching them, occasionally?

I’m something of a movie fan.

So, every-so-often?

I’ll quite happily sit myself down to watch one.

Sometimes, I like company, sometimes I don’t.

But every time?

I try to watch something I think is worth watching.

And something that I hope, makes for a readable post.

I think I’ve found that something, tonight: after a friend suggested it.

Whether it’s something that’s comfortable to watch is a whole other matter …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-6-2017

I don’t suppose you’ve got a few grand going begging?

Spare kidney?

Gold bars?

Something like that … ?

Just to help a hard working blogger?

Only I’ve JUST seen Apple’s new hi-spec iMacPro.

And, yes: you’re right.

I want one of them puppies!

Just imagine how fast it’d do a Handbrake encode!

~≈Ÿ≈~

On something of a low note?

I was coming home from work, last.

As you do.

And noticed a couple of patrolling policemen: grabbing themselves a takeaway curry.

One thing I noticed?

They were both armed.

With Tasers.

OK, I know there’s a reason to see armed officers on the streets of the UK.

I know Tasers aren’t the heavy weaponry you’d see on the streets of New York or Chicago.

But armed police?

In Chelmsford, of all places?

I can only quote you one of Terry Pratchett’s best know character, Sam Vimes: in Jingo

With slightly different emphasis*?

“A watchman is a civilian.”

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-6-2016

Bleaugh …

I was up late, last night!

But … ?

I can at least say that I managed to catch … The Strain!

Which is rather fun.

~≈∑≈~

At ANY rate … ?

At any rate, yesterday’s hospital appointment went well, as did the actual bus trip, there.

I was a little apprehensive, as I’d never actually got beyond Basildon town centre’s bus station.

Today, however?

I’ve got a GP’s appointment, following up on some blood tests, a few weeks ago.

I’ll find out, today, when I’ll find about yesterday’s scans.

I’ve got another appointment, too.

With a local opticians.

Can I tell you something … ?

I’d originally made an appointment with the opticians who’d supplied my last two sets of spectacles.   As I was out of work?   I got a hell of a lot of help, paying for both them, and the actual eye test.

This time, I didn’t: the test would’ve cost me £25, and on pair of glasses, £50!

Not something I fancied forking over.

I’ve since changed opticians.

The new ones looks seriously cheaper: even with my eyesight!
