Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-10-2025 — The Agreement

30th October, 2025: GATT.

As I write?

A nurse is pushing a trolley around my GP’s surgery: getting ready to stick a needle in my arm, this afternoon.

Yep.

It’s that time of year, again: when those of us who are considered vulnerable get ’flu vaccinations!

Quite when I’ll get offered the COVID one, I don’t know …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-10-2024 — Mischief Night.

30th October, 2024: Mischief Night.

Right … It’s official: my nephew was over, yesterday.

And made another video … !

Feel free to head for YouTube, and press ‘Like’.

He’d appreciate it!

~≈🏁≈~

I’m a Mac fan: you knew that.

So … ?

Been keeping an eye on the various product announcements Apple have made over the past couple of days.

Monday’s announcement about new models of iMac was … slightly disappointing: powerful as these new models seem, the number of ports seems minimal.

And the highest end version’s lack of an M4 Pro chip seems like a wasted opportunity.

That’s more than countered, I feel: with Apple’s announcement of new models of Mac mini.

Complete with plenty of ports, boosted minimum RAM, and — in the three higher models — increased solid-state drives.

The most expensive model … ?

Comes with an M4 Pro chip … and three Thunderbolt Five ports: a step up from the Thunderbolt Four ports in the other models.

They look a lot like baby Mac Studios … and frankly?

Very worth-while: especially given the price!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th October, 2023.

30th October, 2023.

It’s officially Monday.

And … ?

I’m off to my weight management class, this morning.

And, once that’s done … ?

I’m off to Shenfield for a COVID jab.

It’s a busy ol’ day …

~≈®≈~

Oh, I caught the first episode of AppleTV+’s Silo, last night.

I don’t think I’ll be reviewing it: I’ve got to prepare for a For All Mankind’s fourth series, and for a lot of Dr Who!

But … ?

That first episode is impressively dystopian …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th September, 2023.

30th September, 2023.

Right … Saturday it is, then … !

And the day after Friday: and the day after I’ve had my most recent eye test.

And?

I’m due two new pairs of spectacles: for reading and TV watching.

I pick those up, next week.

~≈®≈~

I’m on benefits: which you’d worked out.

So … ?

Qualify for various types of help.

Including being on what’s called a social tariff — a low cost price plan for those ion us on benefits — for my internet connection.

I caught this piece, yesterday the BBC.

Seemingly, campaigners are trying to get energy companies to offer the same sort of low cost tariffs.

Granted, the twenty pound uplift helped: and should never have been withdrawn, in my view.

But it was.

So?   The sooner a social energy tariff is introduced — and regulated by government — the happier I’ll be.

I’m facing ridiculous bills.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-10-2022 — Panic on the Radio.

30th October, 2022.

Yay!

The clocks have gone back: an hour.

Which is welcome, frankly.

It meant I got an extra hour’s sleep, this morning.

It’s welcome … because I was up late: finishing a review of another episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds.

If you get the chance to watch the episode in question?

Please do: I think it will repay you.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th October 2021

30th October, 2021.

Yes: it’s officially official.

I’ve managed to see the Denis Villeneuve version of Dune: or Dune Pt One, we should say.

Dune Pt 1

I’ll have my video and written review up, tonight.

But … ?

It’s impressive.

Dr Who — Season 5 Serial 6: Fury from the Deep — Episode 5 and 6 — A Review

29th October, 2020.

Right …

It’s official: I’ve just seen the last two episodes of Fury from the Deep … and am going to tell you all about it, tomorrow!

Frankly, it’s getting late.

I did want to do my usual thing, though: of starting my review the night I watched it.

That way … ?

I know I have to finish it!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-10-2020: The Reign of Henry Tudor

30th November, 2020.

I’ve possibly mentioned this before now: I’m something of a Terry Pratchett fan.

I have been, ever since I read The Colour of Magic, back in the day.

And … ?   His diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s was something I felt deeply upset about.

His support for assisted dying?   Something I found hard to accept: but, eventually, came to agree with.

The fact it’s still illegal in the UK?   Is understandable.

But something I believe should be changed.

The reason I mention this … ?

Is the news I’ve seen float along my timeline, today: the people of New Zealand have voted in favour of a law that allows for Assisted Dying.

Granted, the UK’s had issues with referendum, over the past few years.

But I think we could learn from that.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-10-2019: Sir Christopher Wren.

30th October, 2019.

I’m sorry, I’m going to get a touch political, if you don’t mind.

We now have an election date: 12th December, this year.

I may — if I’m feeling up for it — do a relevant Teaser about it.

That … ?

That’s going to be interesting, I think.

Especially given the weather …

At any rate?   I’m planning — assuming they’re standing — on voting Green …

Or spoiling my vote, if not.

~≈⇞≈~

Oh, just as a quick extra point …  ?

I mentioned the debate around the idea of voter ID, recently: and mentioned this petition*.

It hasn’t reached the required number of signatures to get debated in Parliament.   Including twenty-two in my home town.

It has had a response, though.

Mostly in favour of introducing ID.

The deadline for it?   Is in April, next year.

Here’s hoping it gets the signatures.

~≈⇞≈~

Oh, and just as a final point?

Apparently, content creators — TV and movie producers, in other words — are complaining.

Because Netflix has introduce a new feature.

Yes: Netflix have introduced a fast forward button.

Something QuickTime, VLC, and god knows how many other media players, along side DVD players, Blu-ray players and VHS machines, have had for years.

Ye gods!
“Night City was like a deranged experiment in social Darwinism, designed by a bored researcher who kept one thumb permanently on the fast-forward button.”
Neuromancer, William Gibson.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th October, 2018.

30t October, 2018.

Right …

I’m back to work, today.

Which is why — in the intro video, there — I mentioned the trains.

I always tend to notice them when it’s quiet … or I have to go to work …

Oh, and late at night.

It’s amazing how soothing that can be.

~≈§≈~

Remember, back in 1986, that estate agent Suzy Lamplugh*, went missing: after going to show a potential client a property?

The case was never solved: and Mr Kipper — the supposed client, and presumed killer — remains unfound.

Ever though — back in 2002 — the police named their prime suspect.

Sixteen years later?

Today, in fact.

The Met are searching the back garden of a house formerly owned by the prime suspect’s mother.

Apparently?

They’re acting on information received.

Murder … ?

Is not especially nice.

But I’ll be frank: is that IS Ms Lamplugh’s body, if that IS her?

I’d love to see the case closed, know what happened …

I can only imagine how Suzy Lamplugh’s family feel about it!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th October, 2017

You know, I’m possibly going to have an issue: I’ve got a loose tooth.

Which means I’m going to have to find an NHS dentist to extract it.

Always a problem in the UK.

Getting hospital treatment, or a GP consultation is free.

But, like getting an optician’s treatment?

Dentists cost, on the NHS.

Hopefully?

Hopefully, I’ll be able to find one that’s prepared to treat me: an come up with easy payments!

~≈†≈~

Hmmm …

I’m a fan of both House of Cards and Star Trek Discovery.

And note that, in amongst the sexual harassment claims thrown up in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein affair?

Note that Kevin Spacey has been accused of assault, by Star Trek Discovery actor, Anthony Rapp: who plays Paul Stamets.

I’m …

Not surprised: but thinking a few more of my favourite series will see similar stories*.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-10-2016

Right …

It’s official.

Here in the UK, the clocks have gone back!

Frankly?

I’m grateful.

After finishing work at 10, last night, I managed to catch the rail-replacement bus.

And finally get home at about 11:30.

So, getting to bed, late, and getting up at six, to get to work?

The extra hour’s sleep’s appreciate.

So is something else, actually.

Frankly … on my phone, TV and compute, the process of putting the various clocks back is automated.

Means I don’t have to worry about doing it manually!
