Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-4-2026 — World Voice Day (ten questions)

16th April, 2026: World Voice Day.

Right … I’m awake, and looking forward to tomorrow.

To payday, in other words.

Why?

Well, money’s always handy, isn’t it?

I’ve also woken up with a craving for chocolate.

Why?

Well, if I knew that, I’d be rich … and not complaining about cravings!

~≈🍫≈~

In other news … ?

It’s official: the trailer for Good Omens, series three, has dropped!

That’s all to the good: and gives me something else to look forward to.

I’d like to see how the thing shapes up.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-4-2025 — Orkney

16th April, 2025: Orkney

Did I mention I had a set of blood tests, yesterday?

At Brentwood Hospital?

I had a set of blood tests, yesterday: at Brentwood Hospital.

And … ?

Once they were done, I got as far as Brentwood High Street … before I realised I’d left my glasses at the hospital.

I could kick myself.

Except I’d possibly miss … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-4-2024 — Megiddo

16th April, 2024: Megiddo.

Right, then!

It’s officially Tuesday.

Which means … ?

It’s the day after Monday.

You don’t need me to tell you that!

But … ?   In case you’re interested … ?

I’ve actually lost weight: according to yesterday’s weight management meeting.

That’s something!

~≈¥≈~

Oh … another thing about today … ?

I’m due a visit from a repair man from my landlord.

A boiler engineer.

Yes: it’s boiler safety check day.

I’m going to be stuck indoors ’til he gets here!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-4-2023 — World Voice Day.

16th April, 2023: World Voice Day.

I think we can safely say I’ve had some good news, this week.

You’ll possibly know that — here in the UK — anyone who rents or owns a house has to pay what’s called Council Tax: a property tax used to pay for council services.

It’s hard work paying it, on my sort of income.

Even with the assorted discounts I get for being a single man in a low value home.

However … ?

My local council — like others, I’m told — runs a hardship fund: that can, if you apply early enough, pay the tax for you.

My revised bill came in, yesterday: it’s now officially paid for the year, and leaves me £26 a month better off.

That’s damn handy!

~≈®≈~

Oh, as a thought … ?

I’ve finished my review of ‘Vox’, the ninth episode of Star Trek Picard’s third season.

I hope you enjoy it!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16th April, 2022.

16th April, 2022.

It’s Saturday!

A day when many of us will be going ‘Yaaay!’

If we’re that way inclined.

Personally … ?

I’m not: I’m not a ‘Yay,’ person.

Instead?

I’ll more than probably do a little light shopping.

I’m running out of peas!

~≈†≈~

There’s a new terror to poverty.

Many of us in the UK on low incomes are — if they’re in a property in the relevant council tax band — due to get a Council Tax rebate of £150.

Quite how I get that, I don’t know: the relevant factsheet tells me the Council will be in touch.

I DO know the BBC’s just released a news piece that tells us scammers are cold-calling people: in order to get our bank details

And doing so by pretending to be the Council, arranging the payment.

Frankly?

I think we’re all going to need to keep our eyes peeled.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16th April, 2021

16th April, 2021.

It’s Friday.

Which means … well … stuff’s happening.

Frankly, I’m planning on doing more job hunting: and more things for Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar.

Equally as frankly?   I’m planning on a little shopping.

I’m out of tomatoes: and need a loaf.

And possibly some pasta!

I’ve a couple more pots of spaghetti sauce to use up.

~≈🍝≈~

I do know I was in Romford, yesterday: selling on some blu-rays and DVDs, to their branch of CeX.

Brentwood’s closure makes doing that a bit more of a trip!

At ANY rate?   I’ve sold off some discs that I’d built up over lock down: having made back ups, first.

I’ve still got a couple of bits to sell: an internal hard drive, and a blu-ray burner.

CeX usually tests hardware, before it buys it from you.   Which would’ve taken a bit too long for my comfort.

I might just grab a photo of the things, and put them on Facebook Marketplace: or Gumtree.

We’ll have to see.

Doctor Who — The Faceless Ones: Episodes 3 and 4 — A Review

16th April, 2020.

I have to admit, I like to watch TV.

And usually?

And also have to admit, I have a limited palette.

Right at the moment … ?

Right at the moment, I’m watching old favourite, Dr Who.

I’ve been watching The Faceless Ones: one that’s new to me, as it’s been missing since before my birth.

But … ?   I’ve started watching it, just after eight o’clock, tonight: just to avoid any conflict with the Clap For Our Carers event that happens at eight, on a Thursday.

Even though I don’t take part … ?   It’s nice to hear, and to know it’s going on.

Except of course … ?

Tonight, someone decided lighting fireworks would be a good way of joining in.

There’s going to be a lot of annoyed pet owners out there.

At any rate … ?

At any rate, tonight I’ve sat down to two more episodes of The Faceless Ones: and yes.

It’s good!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16th April, 2020.

16th April, 2020.

Yes: I am bored …

Radically bored …

Bored in a way that involves been boringly bored in a bored kind of way.

Frankly?

The sooner the Corona virus lockdown is over, the happier I — and the rest of the country, frankly! — will be.

~≈Î≈~

On a slightly pleasant front … ?

I — occasionally — do phone interviews for the Office of National Statistics: the UK’s statistics body.

I did one recently: themed — inevitably — around the current crisis.

It took about fifteen (15) minutes.

And earn me thirty quid: as an Amazon gift voucher.

£30 worth of free stuff from Amazon can’t be bad.

Even if Amazon’s going to take ages to deliver!

~≈Î≈~

Right at the moment?

I’m concerned about charities.

I think some — ones like veterans charity, Help for Heroes and the various charities that support NHS hospitals like Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital — really shouldn’t exist.

As the causes are funded by our tax money.   The government should be doing a better job of using our money to fund them.

We shouldn’t have to pay extra for them.

So, seeing 99 year old veteran, Captain Tom Moore, doing a sponsored walk around his garden, to raise £1000 for the NHS — and raising £12 million as a result — leaves me feeling conflicted.

Raising that money’s the government’s job, not a retired captain who’s earned the right to have a sit down!

The walk … ?   And the money he’s raised?

Is STILL one hell of an achievement.

But, even so!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-4-2019: Spike!

16th April, 2019.

Yep: my nephew, Jude, and I … ?

Didn’t get to see a film, last night.

Nope.

But we DID manage to get to go to the local branch of Burger King^.

Jude definitely enjoyed himself: he definitely likes the nuggets.

And had fun with a paper hat!

AND had a question or two for me.

Can I film games on my computer, then add bits, then upload them to a website.

Like this …

Apparently?

Apparently, a lot of his friends at school are doing it.

Oh, and at least one relative’s doing something similar.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-4-2018: Colditz.

16th April, 2018.

Yes: that’s right.

1.   I’m back at work, today.

And, frankly?   I’m still a temp that’s waiting to hear about the possibility of a full time — or, at least, permanent — contract.

You would NOT believe the amount of hoops I’ve had, to get this far.

Or maybe you would.

At any rate?

It’s coming at a point where hours are being cut — at the start of work’s general summer season — which is putting a twist on things.

The amount of hours I’m getting is going down: to the point where handing in my notice And going back on the dole is looking far more economic.

The sooner guaranteed hours turn up, the better.

~≈§≈~

2.   The other thing I meant to mention … ?

Is simply the fact I saw the South Korean horror film, The Wailing, last night.

It’s quite long: at some two and a half hours.

But it’s certainly worth a watch: there’s enough twists, turns and twitches to keep you entertained.

It pertained kept me interested.

~≈§≈~

3.   And, as a final thought … ?

R. Lee Ermey, best remembered as Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket, has died at the age of 74.

I might just have to check the film out.

Never having seen it, it seems a good way to mark the man’s passing.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-4-2017: The Other Last Battle.

I have to admit, I like my job.

Really.

About the only time I have a problem with it?

Is Sundays.   I usually start at eleven.

Which means getting up at six to get everything done!

Including, very specifically, tell you I’ve not seen the first episode of Dr Who, as yet.

No spoilers, now!

~≈Ê≈~

Saying that … ?

Saying that, I’m looking forward to getting home, tonight.

I’m looking forward to catching the opener: and will happily iPlayer it.

I’m also very aware, though?

That’s I’ve managed to record the thing.

Digitally, rather than to tape!

My TV allows me to record things: and saves them in a version of the .ts format.   Which I can then turn into something I can play on my Apple TV, by using Handbrake.

That’s saved me money on blu-rays …

The Daily Teaser — 16-4-2016

Hmmm …

I THINKING I’m going to need to get creative …

I follow all sorts of things — and people — on Twitter.

Including one or two websites.

One of which — a charity that also publishes a quarterly magazine that’s published in a well known clothes shop — recently asked for volunteer contributors.

Guess who volunteered.

?

Hopefully?

I can motivate myself to come up with something for them.

It’d be …

Well, I think it would be all sorts of good.
