Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-3-2026 — “A House Divided”

21st March, 2026: “A House, Divided”.

Right, then … it’s Saturday morning: and I’ve officially got enough money to get a haircut.

I can only hope my usual barber’s open: and not got much of a cue.

Hey … … … ho!

~≈Ú≈~

I mentioned, at the start of the week, that I feel anxious when I don’t have backups: don’t have an unopened box of meds, say, ready to use when the open one is finished.

Or another bottle of ketchup, or salt, or frozen veg, what-have-you … !

At the end of last week, the buttons on my TV remote, went: as has the cable on my expensive webcam.

The remote was worrying: as using the spare as the main remote now means I had no spare.

Thankfully?

I was able to replace it, yesterday: and now have two spare remotes, a cable, and a box set, due, today.

Here’s hoping they get here, nice and quick.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st March 2025.

21st March, 2025.

I have to admit, it’s pay day: so … ?

I’m going to be off shopping and bill paying, later.

Which will be so much fun, I’ll get over-excited!

Yeah: you can me getting ironic, there, can’t you?

~≈🙃≈~

At any rate … I’ve got a review in progress: as I watched Robert Eggers’ 2024 remake of Nosferatu, last night.

I’ve also got the video version of the review planned.

With a provisional timeline set up in DaVinciResolve.

The same software I’ve used for the intro video at The top of this post.

There’s upsides: the free version is remarkably feature-rich.

Although I’ve yet to work out how to fade audio tracks in and out.

The only other downsides, for me?

Is that there’s some noticeable green fringing in the videos I made with it: more than I’ve seen in their iMovie equivalents.

And DaVinci lacks the quality outputs iMovie has: although it does have presets for various platforms.

We’ll have to see what I can do, there!

~≈🧑‍🎨≈~

Just as a last thought … ?

I’ve been reading the collected MACH1 comics: from my misspent, 2000AD reading, youth.

The character is a British equivalent to the Bionic Man.

I’ve got to the episode where the main character’s predecessor, MACH0, is introduced.

And?

When I saw the original image of 0, a thought struck me.

That the image reminded me, vaguely, of the anti-semitic cartoons published by the Nazis, in 1930s Germany.

I can only hope that was accidental!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-3-2024 — The Napoleonic Code.

21st March, 2024.

Yay!

It’s officially Thursday!

Or, at least, the day before pay day.

Frankly?

I’m looking forward to that: getting the bills done is something I can get done.

~≈Ë≈~

I’m on Facebook: as so many are.

I mention it, as I’ve an episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on in the background.

Charades”, if you’re interested.

I mention it … because of something funny I saw on Facebook, yesterday.

I’m in a Star Trek group: where members post frequently.

One member told us of how he and his young daughter were at a convention.

Queuing up to get their picture taken with actress, Christina Chong: Security Chief La’an Noonien Singh, in other words.

Apparently?   One of the daughter’s favourite episodes was “The Elysian Kingdom”: the one where — as the daughter put it — “the strong girl turned in to a princess!”

That … ?

Well, that put a smile on my face: especially as it’s a very good description of the character!

When’s she’s not holding a toy dog!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-03-2023 — World Down Syndrome Day

21st March, 2023: World Down Syndrome Day.

Right … it’s Tuesday.

Which means … ?

Well, for one, I’ve got my nephew, Jude, over later.

Fun, games and video will no doubt ensue!

Actually … ?

Video has already occurred: as I’ve posted a review.

Feel free to hit the Like button!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-3-2022: Namibia

21st March, 2022.

Right … It’s officially Monday: and the start of a whole new, and exciting, week.

One that’s going to involve an innovative, creative, use of time: and a lot of spendable cash.

Ha!

Who am I trying to kid!

It’s going to be more of the same.

You can possibly tell I’m not expecting much.

I do know I’ve got my nephew, over, this afternoon: which should be fun.

And possibly involve a video: you can tell, can’t you … ?

The Mandalorian — Series 2 Episode 7 — Chapter 15 The Believer — A Review

20th March, 2021.

Yes …

This is getting to be something of a habit, by now.

Sitting in from of a screen, I should say.

Right now?   I’m sitting in front of a computer screen: having had a dinner that’s either too big, too small, or just too damn unhealthy for my own good.

An — arguably — home made cheese burger.

Or home cooked, at least.

Eaten whilst watching Star Trek Lower Decks: which I’m not going to write about.

There’s only so much time in the day, after all!

At any rate … ?

I have seen episode 7 of The Mandalorian.

And, with some Dave Brubeck in the background?

Wanted to set up my review of the episode, tonight: and finish it, tomorrow.

It gives me the chance to tell you to take … five …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-3-2021: International Colour Day

21st March, 2021.

Did I ever mention I usually have my curtains shut, when I’m writing these posts?

I usually have my curtains shut, when I’m writing these posts.

You miss a lot that’s going on … but at least I don’t get people looking through my window, first thing in the morning!

It turns out that the yelling I heard, when I was finalising and posting yesterday’s Teaser?

Was two men getting arrested for carrying offensive weapons.

The things you miss …

~≈🔪≈~

It’s officially Census Day.

This year?

It’s mostly being done online.

I’ve done mine already: the rules allow you too, so long as you double check, today, to edit and finalise your entry.

I do have one question, though …

What on Earth do you do: if you have no computer, or smart phone connection to the internet?

What do you do?

It’s not like the library’s open on Sundays …

Saturday, 21 March 2020

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st March, 2020.

21st March, 2020.

I’m right, aren’t I … ?

When I say that the world’s having a crisis.

The Covid 19 corona virus is stalking the world, and the world … is panic buying toilet roll.

Near me … ?

We’re getting closures by the hour.

Frankly?

Pubs, bars and restaurants have been closed since last night.

Which means my old industry is rapidly being devastated.

As is the pub quiz scene.

In one sense?   I love — and loved — being a quiz master.

I’m enough of an ageing ham to have enjoyed being a performer … and still do.

You’ve seen the Youtube channel, after all.

But I’m also aware there’s a lot of self employed entertainers — quiz masters, musicians, DJs — as the various government benefits being introduced?

Don’t cover the self employed.

Here’s hoping something crops up.

~≈¥≈~

Remember me mentioning that I got a laptop for my birthday?

It’s a quite respectable, refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad.

I’d asked for it, as I’m jobhunting, at the mo.

And, in theory?

Could use it to job-hunt online, from Brentwood Library: and be able to get some exercise, at the same time.

Except … ?

Except that the entire Essex Library system is now shut down, due to the virus.

Granted, there’s an amnesty on late returns …

But … ?

It looks like I’m going to be stuck indoors …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-3-2019: World Puppetry Day

21st March, 2019.

Yes: I’ve finally managed to see The Golem!

Last night, if you must know!

And … ?   And, I hear you ask?

I have to admit, it was …

Granted, wasn’t maybe fantastic.

But it did earn itself three stars: and an interestingly bonkers, video intro.

~≈§≈~

Oh … My … Good …

Lord … !

You’re possibly aware that all of us get scam robot calls, occasionally.

At least, I do.

I’ve literally, literally, just had another.

One of the “We are your ISP/BT, we’re going to cut off your internet, please press button one to get put through to an agent,” variety.

I pressed one.

Got through to the relevant agent …

And asked her if she had a gibbon.

She put the phone down.

How rude!

~≈§≈~

Just as a LAST couple of points?

I’ve an interview, latter today: with a local insurance company.

Hopefully?

It’ll end up in a job, as it’s SERIOUSLY local.

Frankly, though?

Well, let’s just say my confidence isn’t necessarily high …

~≈§≈~

On top of that … ?

Brexit …

Just Brexit …

Oy …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st March, 2018.

21st March,  2018.

Or, at least, they were … when I recorded that video …

Now … ?

The Today programme’s shifted: to the ongoing controversy about Cambridge Analytica’s use of user data on Facebook.

Quite what I make of that … ?

Well, I don’t know that I make much of it.

Somewhere along the line, I think Analytica’s behaved iffily: as has Facebook’s rules writing department.

But, frankly?

I don’t know about Cambridge Analytica, but the big blue monster that is Facebook?

Is too immediately useful for me to starting thinking about leaving it.

Although, to be honest … ?

I think I’ll keep away from the sort of quizzes that seem to be at the heart of the issue.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-3-2017

Hmmm …

Martin McGuinness has died …

I don’t know how much you know about the UK’s history …

But you’re probably aware that Northern Ireland’s had troubles.

Famously.

One of the figures instrumental in causing them?   Was former IRA commander, Martin McGuinness: former IRA commander … and former Deputy First Minister.

A former IRA* commander who who worked beautifully well with the IRA archest of enemies, Ian Paisley.

McGuinness has died: of a rare heart condition.

He’s going to be missed by his family, friends …

And any one that recognised a violent past means you can’t give up the armalite, and deal peace.
