Have you ever heard of a TV series called The Blacklist?

YouTube’s been throwing clips of the James Spader vehicle at me for the past few weeks.

So, late last night, I was clicking around on the Apple TV, floated over to the Channel 4 catch-up app … and noticed they had it available.

So I watched the first episode.

It’s a great deal of fun.

Granted, this opening episode seems similar to The Silence of the Lambs.

But Spader’s charismatic in the central role, Megan Boone* as Elizabeth Keen comes over as intelligent, and the episode jogs along at a good pace.

And one character seems to be named after Robert Ressler.

This could be worth watching …

Hello, that’s changed … 

I’ve JUST pasted the labels into this blog post: and a pop-up has told me I can have no more than twenty such tags.

It’s changed: no more than two hundred characters, yesterday.

That’s a minor point: that’s possibly too minor at this time of the morning.

At ANY rate … ?

It turns out the US President is threatening fifty percent tariffs on goods made in the European Union.

And twenty-five percent ones on Apple-branded smart phones: but later expanded that threat to cover all smart phones.

My first thought, when I heard the news?

Was that I know the current administration is right wing.

Right wing enough to suspend the various diversity hiring measures in US law.

And — potentially — have a right wing leader who may be prejudiced towards various minorities.

Including gay people.

I mentioned that as Apple is the only tech company I know of to have an openly-out CEO: in the shape of Tim Cook.

So I felt this could be a personal thing for the President.

But I’m also aware that Apple is moving a lot of its manufactoring capabilities from China, to India, as a results of the Presidential imposed tariffs on Chinese made goods.

Which includes goods made by Apple: the Mac mini two feet away from me was made in a factory in Shenzhen, for example.

So I’m also aware that the President wanted to encourage tech manufactoring in the US.

But … ?

I get that impression Apple — as other companies — makes things in China, India and other places: because it’s cheaper for them to do so, to make stuff abroad, rather than make them at home.

The President should maybe impose tariffs … as well encourage lower costs in the US.

Personally?

I think he won’t do that: just as I think his prejudices may be a factor.

Just as a last thought … ?

Something’s gone wrong, somewhere.

I went for my diabetic review, yesterday.

And … ?

My results hadn’t come through.

I could’ve sworn I had those tests, recently!

In fact, I know I did: I left my glasses at the hospital, and had to go back for them!

Quite what’s happened, there, I don’t know: but I’ve rebooked the test, and the review!

It’s officially official: it’s officially Friday!

At any rate?

It means I’ve got to pay my utility bills … and then pick up some interdental brushes.

I forgot those, yesterday!

I’ve got to confess, there’s a general election due: on 4th July, 2024.

And?

I’m thinking I have two choices about where to cast my vote.

Last time?

I went for the Greens: even though I had my doubts about their figures.

And their ignorance about what benefits people get.

They wanted to replace Housing Benefit: seemingly ignorant of the fact that those of us on Universal Credit don’t receive it: it’s, effectively, been replaced already.

If they can replace that?   I could happily vote for them.

If not?

I’d have to think about spoiling my vote, again.

Bar that, or leaving my ballot unmarked, or not voting at all?

I, and others who wish to abstain, have no other choice.

Well, finally … !

I have one less thing to worry about.

Do you remember me saying I was one of the people in line for a £150 rebate: one given to those in homes in Council Tax bands A to D.

I was told it could get to me by September at the latest.

It actually turned up, yesterday.

That’s handy.

It means I can pay off a large chunk of Council Tax: and get near to paying it off.

And use some to either shop … or top up my electricity.

Either way … ?

It’s one less thing to worry about.

Right … I have to admit, I’m feeling slightly rushed, today.

I’ve got a phone meeting at ten, with my Health and Work Programme case officer.

At ten.   So you know.

Am I nervous about it … ?

Nope: they’re getting routine.

They also end in October.

What happens, after that … ?

I really don’t know …

The UK — largely — is still under lockdown.

Although, from what I can see, it’s eased … a little …

That hasn’t made much difference to me, as someone who’s job hunting.

I’m still waiting to have the normal meetings I’m scheduled to have, every fortnight.

As dull as they are?

As dull as they are, they get me out of the flat, and at least feeling as if I’m doing something … 

Speed the day they restart!

But it really didn’t hold my attention, however good it was.

Yesterday was Thursday.

Which, by now, means simply that I get a visit from my nephew, Jude.

Well, definitely on school holiday.

And definitely feeling confident enough to want to grab my chair and announce he’d like to learn how to use iMovie, to edit a video …

Monday’s attack has just got … 

Nasty … 

Although you’re possibly wondering how.

So was I … 

Until, last night, when I saw in the news that Britain’s threat level — the official view of how likely a terrorist attack is — had been raised to Critical.

Meaning that — in key public locations — there’s going to be armed soldiers supporting police.

Armed troops.

On British streets.

I don’t know how to say this: but I really don’t like that idea.

Granted, it’s only happened three times this century.

Granted, it’s felt another attack is imminent: I’d hate to see what happens if someone attacks Glastonbury or Reading.

But … ?

I don’t know about you, but I can remember reading about British troops patrolling the streets of Northern Ireland: back in the 1970s.

And about Bloody Sunday.   The day was a major contributed to IRA propaganda, and — I feel — caused by having a lot of nervous squaddies on the streets of the UK, itself … 

Doing what their trained to do — shoot to kill — in completely the wrong situation.

If this mishandled badly?

We could be looking at a result that makes the Troubles look like a playground argument.

The Daily Teaser — 24-5-2016

What?

What … ?!

I’m a film fan … well … armchair film fan, at any rate.

One who, over the years, has picked up one distinct impression.

That films based on video games aren’t necessarily much good.

Which has what’s mostly encouraged me not to watch: that and the fact I’m not exactly a video games fan.

Then, courtesy of the BBC?

I learnt one company has achieved something of a coup.

Yes.

Threshold Global Studios are planning a trilogy of movies … based on Tetris.

I’d love to see the script for that lot … !
