It’s officially official: I can jump around the room, after I had a password adventure!

I went shopping, yesterday: as it was payday.

And picked up an Apple Gift card, to help play my cloud storage bills.

I got home, had lunch, recorded and uploaded a video … 

And, when the video had finished uploading … ?

Tried feeding the code on the card into my Apple Account … 

Which got refused … repeatedly … 

And reset … repeatedly … 

It was only after re-starting, siding in and out of Music.app, restarting again, signing in and out of Music.app, then re-starting, again, THEN signing in and out of Music.app and TV.app … 

All of this with my left foot in a bucket of cold porridge.

It was only after all that, that the new password stuck.

‘Password adventure’ … is possibly putting it mildly …

I’m blaming getting up early: I’ve got my diabetic review, today.

23rd May, 2024: World Turtle Day.

It’s officially official: it’s Thursday … !

Which means the news has got out.

Yes: we’re due an election on 4th July.

Frankly?

I’m going to wait until the Greens put out a manifesto, and announce if they’re standing in my area.

Before I decide whether to vote for them … or spoil my vote.

On a personal front?

I’ve had some news.

I’ve not been contacted by Clarion — my landlords — about any possible refunds on last years service charges.

So?

I contacted them on Tuesday.

Apparently?

The process should take a week … once they get to it.

They couldn’t tell me when that would be.

Not something I’m happy about: and something I intend to keep pestering them about: until I know one way or the other.

The good bit of news I got yesterday?

I put in for a grant to help pay my council tax, a few weeks ago.

It finally went through, yesterday.

That’s a big help: it, effectively, means I have an extra few quid every month.

Partly?   Because I get paid, today: and want to pay my bills before my nephew turns up.

Oh … and have a leg x-ray at my local hospital.

I’ve got to admit, I’ve looked out of the window, this morning.

And … ?

We’ve got some sunshine, today!

OK, there’s no actually birdsong: but at least it’s sunny enough to go and buy a loaf, without a coat.

I’ve got to admit, I was editing video, last night.

And so, managed to avoid this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

This year’s Russian entry?   Either wanted to be a Georgian State Dancer … or a Dalek.

I still think Russia should’ve re-used last year’s entry: Little Big did a better job!

The eventual winners?   Were the Italian band, Måneskin, with the song, Zitti e buoni.

Which, it has to be said, sounds fantastic.

James Newman, the UK entry … ?   Came last.

With zero.

He’s the second UK entry to do so.

Hell, Iceland did better: after they had to take part by video!

Frankly?   I’m blaming Brexit!

Yep: it’s one day after pay day.

And I’ve had enough cash left over … ?

To do a little online shopping.

Would you believe it?

I’ve bought a jug,

And I’ve actually managed to buy a potato masher … that’ll arrive before the middle of July.

Frankly, I’m getting sick of using a fork!

I have to admit, I keep an eye on the news.

One thing I notice?   Is the frequency of reports telling us about the many children without access to computers, or the internet, at home.

Especially children in care.

With various shades of lockdown, and home-schooling, still on?

It’s a bit of a worry.

I can only wonder if computer companies educational offering as good a deal as possible.

And if BT — and others — are targeting their basic service to the right people.

Right … 

As you’ll possibly be aware?

I’m unemployed, at the moment.   And have to report to my local Job Centre, every couple of weeks.

I managed to miss the last one.

And got my self sanctioned as a result.

Understandably, I’ve been kicking myself for missing the thing: especially given that the financial penalties are quite severe.

Thankfully?

You’re allowed what’s called a Mandatory Reconsideration: an appeal, in other words.

That I managed to do, yesterday.

Hopefully?

Even if I don’t get the sanction cancelled, I’ll hopefully get the penalty reduced.

Tech fan that I am?   I’ve been keeping an eye on Huawei’s troubles, just recently.

Famously, the Chinese firm’s infrastructure section is having issues.

Many countries have security concerns about its links to the Chinese government.

The US has recently banned US companies and government departments from using Huawei’s products: which lead Google to cut ties with Huawei.

Yesterday?   Yesterday, ARM — the chip company that makes chips for most of the world’s smart phones and tablets — announced that — as they have to use some US technology in their chips — they were to stop selling to the Chinese giant.

That’s … significant: as Huawei will have to find other chips for their phone.

Today … ?

Panasonic seems to be making similar declarations on its Western websites … but not necessarily on its Chinese ones.

I’m greeting the feeling Huawei … is having bigger problems than it was expecting …

You know, I was going to tell you I’m back at work, today — I’m back at work, today — and tell you that I’d seen two more episodes of Mr Robot.

Great episode, by the way: the fact the main character uses the old cantenna trick to break into a wifi network, tickled me.

I was … 

But I’ve woken up, this morning … to find that, overnight, a bomb has gone off at the end of an Ariana Grande gig at the Manchester Arena, last night: killing twenty-two concert goers.

From what I read, it’s assumed to be a suicide bomber: that ISIS have claimed responsibility for.

Some of the dead are, I believe, Muslim.

Some are children. 

I’m … 

Shocked.

And rather surprised: here in the UK, we’ve been very lucky to have avoided the sort of attacks that have hit parts of France.

I’m also concerned: both for the safety of anyone missing, and for the safety of any of my Muslim co-workers.

As I’m sure some of my Irish friends will tell us, terrorist attacks generate a not just fear and terror … 

But a backlash* against those seen as ‘involved,’ somehow.

Right now … ?

Right now, I’m feeling … conflicted, to say the least.

I’m hoping a lot of things.

Chiefly?   That this has a minimal effect on the Election.

This sort of thing?

To the best of my knowledge, this sort of thing has never happened during an election.   I hope this has as little an effect on the General Election as possible.   But doubt it: someone will make political mincemeat of the thing.

I’m ALSO mildly angry.

The man that’s done this?   Has killed himself as part of the process.

The coward has taken his own life, and cannot be questioned about his motives, or face the law.

Yes, a coward.

I hope ISIS are listening.

The coward who ISIS claim has acted for them …

Has taken his own life rather than justify killing children.

There is never an excuse for killing kids.
