Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th December 2025.

29th December, 2025.

It’s officially official: I’ve had a delivery.

Of a film: and some vitamin D tablets.

At least one of those is going to come in handy: and keep me healthy.

The other … ?

Was the unfinished Ralph Bakshi version of The Lord of the Rings.

Which I first saw many years ago: and thought I should watch, again, after seeing Bakshi’s Wizards.

I have to ask one thing, though.

I’ve shown you the trailer, there.

And … ?

I’m feeling cynical about the thing: it describes the film as being “… beyond the reaches of the imagination”.

Which is a bit contradictory.

When someone clearly imagined enough of the movie, to get the thing made!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th December 2024

29th December, 2024.

It’s officially Sunday … and I’m really thinking I should have more sleep … !

Let’s just said I had a late night phone call, shall we?

And leave it there!

In other news … ?

I’ve finally managed to post my written and video reviews of this year’s Dr Who Christmas special, Joy to the World.

The written version is here.

The video version is embedded, below …

Hopefully?

My belief that Joy isn’t the companion will get a comment or two …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-12-2023 — Mongolia.

29th December, 2023: Mongolia.

Oh …

I’ve found a feature!

You’ve possibly worked out I’ve got a new Mac mini: the base line model.

Frankly?

I’m grateful for it, and to everyone whose helped me buy it.

Whilst I’m aware of its limitations?

I’m also aware it’s running macOS Sonoma: with all the subtle differences from its predecessor, Ventura, the OS I’m more familiar with, that that implies.

So, I’m getting used to things, still.

I do know I managed to record some footage for the video versions of upcoming Teasers: and noticed that there was an extra icon in the Menu Bar, when I had QuickTime set to record.

Of a camera.

It turns out the icon has a group of dropdown settings, for recording with QuickTime: including what it calls a ‘Voice Isolation’ mode.

A hum reduction setting, in other words.

I don’t know how much use it will be: nor how well it would show up.

But it certainly could be useful.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th December, 2022.

29th December, 2022.

Thursdays always seem to be the day for it, don’t they?

No specific its.

Just its in general.

Or possibly it’s.

At any rate … ?

I’ve got to make sure I stay in, this afternoon.

I’m expecting a call about the results from my last blood tests.

And expecting a delivery: the Dr Who series 2 bluray box set, and The Iron Legion, the collected first stories from Dr Who Weekly.

Here’s hoping they’re over and done, quickly.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th December, 2021.

29th December, 2021.

It’s official: I’ve survived Jude’s Birthday bowling party.

And the meal afterwards: that burger at Frankie and Bennies was a bit bigger than I though it would be.

Fun was, quite literally, had by all.

The aftermath, though … ?

Is quite simple.

My elbow aches: as a result of hefting eight kilo bowling balls around.

My ability to put some back spin into a bowl … ?

Is suffering!

I follow the technology news, sometimes.

And can’t help but notice the oddities that crop up, occasionally.

A few days ago?   We found out that Tesla cars had games in the touch screens drivers could use to monitor their car’s performance.

Games that could have been used, whilst the car was moving.

Something that’s now been disabled.

Given we know people have crashed, sending text messages whilst driving?

I’m wondering who enabled games in the first place?!

Tesla’s not the only one.

It seems a bored ten year old managed to find a flaw in Amazon’s Alexa AI assistant.

When she asked it to give her a challenge.

Alexa told her to plug a charger halfway into the socket: and touch it with a penny.

Sensibly?   Amazon have since revised the software.

You have to wonder what happened there … ?

Wonder Woman ’84: A Review.

28th December, 2020.

Right …

It’s late — is — on a Monday night: and I’ve just seen a rather enjoyable movie.

One I’m going to tell you more about, in the morning.

But?

Yes: I have seen Wonder Woman ’84.

And yes: it’s enjoyable!

29th December, 2020

Yes: I’ve got stuff on the way from Amazon.

And … ?

Well, there’s a few cheap bits … and at least one expensive bit.

Which is why they’ve told me they’re sending me a password.

I can live with that.

Last time I had a sensitive delivery, they only asked for ID!

It’s not often my home town gets a mention on Radio 4 … but Brentwood’s just got a mention on Radio 4.

It turns out we’ve currently got the worst COVID 19 rates in England.

Which means … ?

Well …

It’s going to take long to find a job …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-12-2019: YMCA

29th December, 2019

I picked up a Blu-ray Disc, yesterday: the 4k version of Twice Upon A Time.

Lovely … you might think.

Except I think I’m going to have to take the thing back to the local branch of CeX that I got it from.

The main disc — with Twice Upon A Time on it — proved a bit tricky for my ripping software to deal with.

Whilst the second disc — with the various extras — just couldn’t be read at all.

Back it goes.   In the hope that I get as little argument as possible.

You know, you’d expect governments to get things right, wouldn’t you?

But … ?

This year’s New Year’s Honours list — I’m not on there, again! — and there’s various gongs all ’round.

Except, of course, there’s been a screw up!

On Friday, the Cabinet office managed to post up the list of honours recipients … complete with names and addresses …

They do like to make it easy for stalkers, don’t they … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th December, 2018

29th December, 2018.

Right …

You can tell I need caffeine, can’t you … ?

Yes: it’s the morning after the movie night, before … !

The I saw … Alien … !

It has to be said, Scott’s best known movie is still looking good, nearly forty years after its original release.

One sad thing I noted in the news?

Was the simple fact that music retailers, HMV, has gone into administration for the second time in five years.

With the chain’s owners blaming both tougher business rates, and the raise of digital downloads and streaming.

I’m saddened to hear the news.   And sympathetic to the staff’s plight.

I was working at Threshers when it went down: it’s demise was blamed — in part — by the rise of online retailers like Majestic.

I’m sympathetic …

But also aware that I, like you, am part of HMV’s struggles.

Let’s face it, we are ALL buying music from iTunes, and Amazon: or streaming from Amazon Prime, Netflix, and lord knows wherever else.

If HMV is going to survive, it needs to have an online offering on a par with Netflix and Amazon.

Quickly.

That will be tough.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-12-2017: The Turbulent Priest

Hmmm …

I’ve just got up: mostly to get my rear into gear, to head for work, at 9·30.

Lots going on there …

At ANY rate?

I’ve done my usual thing: turning on my TV so that I could put Radio 4 on.

I caught some news in the process.

An apartment block in New York has gone up in flames.

Granted, it seems to have not been on the same scale as Grenfell Tower.

But that still looks pretty nasty: in the midst of a city that’s one of the biggest on the planet.

My thoughts are in two places.

Firstly?   I’m hoping the authorities in New York can move a little quicker than Kensington and Chelsea: and quickly rehouse the survivors.

The Neon Demon — Wha … ?

29th December, 2016

You know … I like an occasional movie.

I really do.

That’s when I get the chance to see one.

Working nights, though?

Doesn’t give me that many free evenings.

I had one, tonight.

And really fancied something that’s been on my iTunes wish list a while.

The 2016, Nicholas Winding Refn piece that is The Neon Demon.

And … ?

It’s a bit …

Different …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-12-2016: Wounded Knee

Good lord …

The world’s a sad place, at times.

Especially this year: it’s seen much personal loss.

It’s seen much public loss, too.

Bowie … Prince … Leonard Cohen …

Carrie Fisher …

And, literally, the day after Carrie Fisher … ?

Her mother, the film star, Debbie Reynolds.

The world … is a sadder place …
