Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-4-2026 — Robin Wright

8th April, 2026: Robin Wright.

Right … there’s help available.

I’ve repeatedly mentioned how helpful the Essential Living Fund run by Southend-on-Sea City Council was: especially for those of us on Universal Credits, or receiving other benefits, and living in Southend, Thurrock or in Essex.

But that the fund had now closed to those outside Southend.

Thankfully?

And due to the current government reworking the source of funds?

Southend Council’s now running the Crisis and Resilience fund for people in Southend, Thurrock and Essex.

That’s all to the good: and yes, I spent time, yesterday, applying for a grant from this new — rebranded? — fund.

Hopefully?

I’ll get something: the prepaid cards the Essential Living Fund handed out were handy, especially for paying off utility bills.

But I’m also aware the Government’s been tightening rules on some benefits: as well as cutting others.

Can you keep your fingers crossed for me, please?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th April 2025.

8th April, 2025.

Hmmm …

I was at my weight management group, yesterday.

And … ?

I’m up 700 grams!

Ouch!

Remind me to lay off the potatoes.

~≈🥔≈~

Oh, I’m up early: again!

As an occupational therapist from Essex County Council is due to visit, today: between nine and twelve.

Hopefully?

They will be able to persuade Clarion to do the needed work, quickly.

~≈💪≈~

Clem Burke died, yesterday.

I wouldn’t say the man was a huge influence on my life.

But?

He was the drummer in one of my favourite bands.

The world’s a smaller place, as a result.

~≈🥁≈~

You watch TV, don’t you … ?

I’m assuming you do.

Or, at least, have heard about the smash Netflix hit, Adolescence.

It seems the show’s makers are to remake the bleak 1980s TV film, Threads.

I can only hope they do it well.

The 1984 original was, and is, the most powerful piece of film making I’ve ever seen.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-4-2024 — International Romani Day

8th April, 2024: Internațional Romani Day.

Yay!

It’s Monday morning!

The start of a whole new week: one that lets me hop, skip, jump and generally prance about!

OK, maybe not: not with my knees, at any rate!

Either way?

I’ve finished — and posted — a video review.

And I’m off to my weight management meeting, today.

Hopefully?

I’ll get more sleep at some point!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th April 2023 Teaser.

8th April, 2023.

Right … I think I owe Trevor a big thank you.

He managed to remind me I wouldn’t be getting any post, yesterday … as it was a bank holiday.

Thanking you, Trevor!

As you can imagine?

I’ve already sent the court service an email: reminding them I’d been told I’d get the letter by the seventh, and that it wouldn’t arrive, because of the bank holiday …

But, of course, aren’t expecting any reply until Tuesday … as Monday is ALSO a bank holiday.

I love life …

Friday, 8 April 2022

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th April, 2022.

8th April, 2021.

Right … it’s now Friday.

You can tell, can’t you?   It’s on your phone or computer’s calendar, isn’t?   Showing up in the corner.

The top right, in my case.

At any rate: it’s a Friday … following two days on the trot, where I’ve had to get up at five.

I’m grateful to have had the chance to sleep in!

~≈Ÿ≈~

The current government?

Is planning to introduce photographic voter ID.

Despite the fact the UK’s never had any.

Frankly?

It’s not something I can support.

The plans include provisions for a ‘free’ photo ID card that you could get from the council.   ID that — from what I can see — requires you to have paid-for ID to show the council who you are: and to pay for the passport photos to go on it.

Free?   My arse.

At any rate, one ray of possible hope?

Is the simple fact that, yesterday, the bill was going through the House of Lords.

As their Lordships voted to widen the forms of ID needed.

Bills getting turned into law is never guaranteed.

So the Voter ID law isn’t a guaranteed thing.

If it does go through?   The Upper Chamber’s actions will make the thing affordable for the like of you and me.

~≈🗳≈~

It’s possibly too early for all sorts of things.

It’s too early to phone calls, I know that.

I’ve just had one from 01633 303 455: and got a burst of conversation in some sort of Indian language … before they put the phone down, at their end.

Quite what that was about?   I don’t know.

But I suspect someone was playing silly buggers …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th April, 2021.

8th April, 2021

Yes: it’s officially official … I had a late night, last night.

Writing my review of the first episode of For All Mankind, series two.

And it has to be said, it looks rather impressive.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-4-2020: Passover

8th April, 2020

Right … It’s a quiet Wednesday.

Or, at least, I suspect to will be.

After all, I have very little to do: bar make a few videos, and do some stuff around the house.

We’ll have to see what happens …

~≈†≈~

One thing I do know?

I’ve been watching Star Trek Picard, over the past few weeks: and recently caught the penultimate episode.

If you’re not watching it?

You’re missing a very good series!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-4-2019: Auguste’s Alzheimer’s

8th April, 2019.

Yep: I’ve got a man coming over: to fix my cupboard!

Well … I say cupboard …

A couple of days ago, now, the door came off the cupboard housing my boiler: managing to land on my head, in the process.

That hurt: but hasn’t seemingly done much damage.

But?   It’s something that left me with a boiler, peeking over the top of the door.

Which looks a bit odd.

At any rate … ?

I’ve reported it to my landlord.

Who’ve got a repair man heading over, today: between eight and one.

The only downside?

I have to stay in to let the bloke in.

I’m going to get cabin fever, aren’t I … ?

Thelma: Am I Convinced … ?

8th April, 2018.

Yeah …

That little opener’s one for the books, isn’t it … ?

Maybe I should try and clarify, here: shouldn’t I?

My name’s Paul, if you didn’t know.

I work in a call centre inChelmsford, I blog — the Daily Teasers are getting some attention — and, occasionally?

I’ve a bad habit of telling you about TV shows I’ve watched … and movies I’ve rented/seen.

Oh, and occasionally music.

I’ve got Into Battle with the Art of Noise, by the Art of Noise, on in the background.

Which is definitely an interesting listen: especially the Diversion Zero mix of Beat Box.   Quite different to the version on Whose Afraid (of the Art Of Noise).

At ANY rate … ?

I’ll watch or listen to stuff.

THEN tell people about it.

Tonight … ?

Tonight, I’ve rented Thelma, from iTunes.

And I’m not convinced it’s a winner.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th April, 2018

8th April, 2018.

Yeah … I’ve got a day off, today …

And frankly?

I’ve got too much to do in the space of 24 hours!

Cleaning, more cleaning, then some cleaning, then, JUST to top it all off … ?

Cleaning.

With intermittent laundry, in-between.

Actually?

Now I think about it?

The laundry’s sort of important.

I’m running out of pants …

~≈§≈~

While I’m here … ?

You’ve possibly — over the years — worked out I’m something pod a Mac fan: one who’s been given a new iMac as a birthday present.

Frankly?

I’m thinking I should move the extra monitor from one side of the iMac to the other.

Just to make it easier to look at.

But one thing I AM grateful for … ?

Is simply the fact High Sierra, the version of macOS on this machine?

Has a split screen view.

It’s something I’ve found helpful.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-4-2017: International Romani Day

*Yawns.*

I think — one of these days — I’m due some time off.

No, really!

At least … a Saturday off!

A lay in would be rather nice, let’s put it that way.

Remind me to get booking that up.

At some point … !

The Daily Teaser — 8-4-2016: Language is a Virus …

Hmmm …

Once again, it’s a Friday.

You’ve possibly noticed.

Once again, it’s a Friday: and once again, it’s payday.

And … ?   Once again, the Payment card I’ve ordered — that allows me to pay my Council Tax, in cash, at a PayPoint outlet — still hasn’t arrived.

Understandably, I’m not happy.

If it hasn’t arrived by Monday, though?

I can put into Brentwood Council to start asking pointed questions.
