Right … I think we can say I’m working on a movie review: having watched the Ralph Bakshi directed Wizards, last night.

It’s worth watching, I think: but definitely odd.

I got emails, yesterday.

Including the inevitable junk.

Including one from MacWorld, telling me about discounts available — in the US! — on the desktop version of Microsoft Office.

Nope: I’m not getting it.

There’s better things to be spending my money on.

Can I make a suggestion?

I’ve always felt that most of us only need MS Office for one or two things: opening and reading Word or Excel files.

So … ?

If you’re looking at buying or subscribing to, the suite, just to open a few Word files?

You’re probably better off exploring the free options, before you waste your money.

I keep half an eye on the Tharries YouTube channel: as the youngster usually picks up on interesting Dr Who leaks.

And, in a recent video?

Tells us that Paramount — the producers of Star Trek — are interested in taking over as international partners from Disney.

Which could be good news.

Although, apparently?

Paramount wants the back catalogue exclusively on their UK streaming service, rather than the iPlayer.

I don’t know how true that is.

But I’d prefer to see to watch the show for free: rather than have to pay for it.

It’s made in Britain, after all.

Did I mention I’m getting a benefit called PIP, Personal Independence Payment?

I’m getting a benefit called PIP: so you know.

As part of that … ?

One old friend — thanking you, Carly! — suggested I have a word with my GP: about getting an occupational therapist in.

To see if there’s any adjustments that can be made to my home.

There’s a couple: the cupboards on the kitchen wall could do with lowering, and a walk-in shower would be nice.

But … ?

We’ll have to see!

I’ve finally been given this years Cost of Living payment.

Most of that went, quick!

It’s paid for Christmas: and put some cash on the meter.

I’ve still got enough for some shopping!

Yes, it’s official: I’ve finally caught up with the first episode of classic Dr Who serial, The Abominable Snowmen.

I’ll hopefully have that up, tonight.

Assuming that my nephew manages to make a really short video, when he comes over, this afternoon!

You’d noticed, hadn’t you … ?

At any rate?

Those of us on most forms of benefits are eligible for for the two part cost of living payment: and would have received the first payment, earlier this year.

The second half?

Is now due: between today, and the 23rd November.

Frankly?

The sooner it gets to me, the better!

I read 2000AD, when I was young: Britain’s best known comic book was required reading.

Carlos Ezquerra, the man who co-created Judge Dredd, died four years ago: and is much missed.

Today … ?

I’ve learnt that Kevin O’Neill has died.

The man was an artistic icon: he, and his unique style, will be much missed!

Nope: I’m getting another visit from the Office of National Statistics COVID-19 testers.

Granted?   They’re not given us Amazon vouchers, any more.

Which is a shame, those were handy.

We CAN claim iTunes gift cards: which helps.

Especially if you really DO want the Bestiality of the Bonzo Dog Band.

You turn it on, tune in to Farming Today, doing an article about saffron growing … and immediately get N-Joi’s Anthem — complete with Republica frontman, Saffron, on vocals — banging it’s way through your head.

I’ve managed to catch the first episode of Star Trek: Discovery , series three, last night.

It’s looking good.

Yes: it’s officially official: I have earworms.

Two of them, I should add: Snow’s Informer, and the Associates’ Waiting for the Loveboat.

Quite why they’re floating my head, I really couldn’t say for sure: especially as I’ve only got half an idea!

Did you know you smell?

So do I.

It’s partly why we have noses, after all.

The reason I mention that?

Is the piece of news I saw, a day or two ago.

It seems there’s an area of the brain called the olfactory bulbs: that allow us to smell.

Some of us?   Don’t have them: and have no sense of smell as a result?

Except for some left handed women: who’s sense of smell is fine …despite lacking those bulbs.

Quite what’s going on there, I honestly don’t know!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-11-2018: The Bodleian

8th November, 2018.

It’s officially official: I’ve now got updated copies of Pages, Keynote, Numbers and iMovie.

Yay!

OK, it’s just another update to the software, but I’m grateful to get them.

And frankly?

I’m also happy to use them.

I’ve used Microsoft’s Office software — on and off — for several years.

Components of it, at least.

And, while it’s the de facto standard?   It, and the open source equivalents like OpenOffice, and LibreOffice, are both a little bit too feature rich for me.

About the only thing that I did envy?

Was Office’s spell checker: which DID seem better than the default one with macOS.

Thankfully, that seems to have improved in the past few versions of both macOS, and Pages.

And frankly?

Paying £119·99* for something that I’m only going to use half of … ?

Does seem silly …

Blimey … 

It’s the proverbial Big Day: of the US general election.

One that — from what I’ve understood — is looking like a close run thing.

Personally … ?

I can’t help but think it’s going to be fifty/fifty.

And either way … ?

It’ll be interesting to see the result.

THEM!: A Review

8th November, 2012.

You know, every so often, I have to admit I’ll happily rent a movie.

Who doesn’t?

It is a nice form of entertainment, after all … !

And, while I’ll happily stay glued to whatever looks good and recent, I’ll have to ALSO admit that every so often, I’ll get retro.

No, seriously retro.

To the point, where, last night …

I just couldn’t help but fire up iTunes, and rent the 1954 retro Creature Feature, Them!.

Well, sometimes you HAVE to …

THEM! sees New Mexico police sergeant Ben Peterson* and his patrol-mate, Ed Blackburn finding a little lost girl in the middle of the New Mexican desert.

A little girl who’s both in shock, and quite some distance away from the family caravan.   A caravan that is empty of all other human life …

And that’s been ripped open, by some huge unknown thing … !

Now …

I have to admit, I had quite a lot of fun with THEM!.

Granted, this is a film that’s some 58 years old.  But it’s also one from an era when Hollywood didn’t bother making films that went all arty at you.

Oh, no!

THEM! is an all out monster-fest, that goes from scary to moralising about science to scary in the space of an hour and a half.

What’s more … ?

It’s FUN … !

Go Get … !
