I’ve got to admit, I looked out of the window, earlier.

And yes: with Storm Goretti on the horizon, Brentwood’s getting rained on.

So … ?   I’m happy to see that the government-sponsored Cold Weather Payment has gone through.

Having extra money for gas will be useful.

It won’t stop the rain, or the storm: but will get me dry, if I go out.

And — while we’re not threatened by wildfires or snow — we’re looking at low temperatures!

I think a jumper’s called for.

Along side trousers, a shirt, warm socks, underwear … and possibly a coat!

I’m on Facebook: and have been for many years.

And … ?

Given the amount of literal cr*p that gets aired on the site, I’m grateful Facebook has been using comment moderation and fact checking.

But … ?

In the wake of Donald Trump’s re-election?

Meta, Facebook’s owner, has announced it’s to stop using them.

While I’ll be continuing to use the service?

That’s a concerning move from the company.

I’d infinitely prefer Meta to keep fact checkers.

I’d hate to see the return of rubbish on FB.

It’s bad enough on X!*

8th January, 2024: World Typing Day.

You’re possibly aware that I’ve a new Mac: sitting to my immediate right.

In case you were curious about where it was!

At any rate: it’s come with many, updated, versions of the usual bundled software.

Including QuickTime, the Mac’s on-board media player and video recorder.

It seems that — in addition to the Voice Isolation feature I mentioned, a few days ago? — it is also capable of blurring the background.

Assuming that background isn’t a green screen,

Beyond using it, occasionally, for the intro videos, here?

I don’t know how much use that will be.

But … ?

I’m sure there’ll be something I could do with it.

Which means I’ve got to try and pick up some paperwork from my GPs,

And see if a repeat prescription’s in.

Oh … I’ve just had a look at the BBC’s website.

Apparently, the building that used to be the local branch of Dorothy Perkins*?

Is going to be turned into a branch of Tescos.

Whether’s that a good or bad thing, is a whole other idea.

But at least it’s an alternative to Sainsbury’s.

Oh, as one last thing … ?

Do you remember a TV show called Grange Hill … ?   It was aimed at children, and huge, when I was growing up.

And famously controversial.

After all, it saw teenage pregnancies, bullying, racist pupils, activist pupils, and at least one teacher/pupil affair.

And had one heroin addicted character — Zammo, played by Lee McDonald — ending up licking spilt heroin from the floor, after stealing from his friends.

All this … ?

Is due to be revived as a film in 2023.

I might just have to keep an eye peeled.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-1-2021: Thank God It’s Friday … !

8th January, 2021.

You have been following the news, yes?

Then you’ll know that Capitol Hill — the US equivalent of Parliament Square, and Westminster Palace  — had pro-Trump rioters on Wednesday.

That’s still getting repercussions.

For a start, President Trump’s had to condemn the trouble, in a video posted on Twitter.

Some have suggested he’s done so because he think’s it’s the right thing to do.

Others point out he’s had two members of his cabinet resign, whilst others point out there’s talk about removing him from power, under the US Constitution’s 25th Amendment.

Even though there’s been one police death?

There’s been questions about the Capitol’s security arrangements.

With at least one person pointing out that things could well have gone differently: had this been a Black Lives Matter Protest.

Personally … ?

I can only hope things calm down.

But, frankly?

I can only hope security is ramped up on Inauguration Day.

I think someone’s going to try taking a pot shot at Joe Biden.

Yep: that’s right … it’s Wednesday.

And, yes: yesterday was Tuesday.

And?

I spent a hell of a lot of it on the phone.

My boiler’s playing up again, I needed to re-book a gas safety check — with another department — and then … ?

Book up a repair to my letterbox lock.

It’s all go, here!

I actually got access to the independent, Welcome to Essex.

Smoking Monkey, the company behind it?

Were keen to get good reviews: mine’s here.

Especially when the blogger concerned is …

• Established.
• Written about a lot of movies.
• And lives in the town where it was filmed.

Hmmm … 

I THINK I might have a little bad news for them.

I’ve given them something of a roasting.

Although, to be fair?

I do try and end on a positive note.

Either way?

I’m pleased to have been asked.

However ambiguous I feel about it.

Oh … 

Right … 

Think I lost that bet.

Over the past few days, I’ve been waiting for a new HomeHub from BT: after my old one contributed to a net failure on Tuesday night.

I’d been told the thing would get to me by Monday: after being told it would get to me by last Thursday.

It actually turned up — and got set up — yesterday.

So far … ?

So far, web pages seem to be loading up slightly more rapidly than they were: which is all good.

And the one use I’ve had of my Apple TV?

Seems to have gone well enough: at least, the one episode of QI I’ve watched on iPlayer?   Didn’t stutter, slur, buffer, disconnect or fall over.

Here’s hoping that keeps up.

The Daily Teaser — 8-1-2016

It’s now official … 

I now have a back-up drive: after the 4-terabyte internal drive I’d order from Amazon finally turned up.

Something I’m frankly glad about: considering The wait I had for the thing!

There it is, showing up on my desktop: the blue one, at the bottom.

I’ve even done a slide show, which you probably don’t need to know.

But I’m going to show you, anyway!

At ANY rate … ?

I’ve also worked out why I’m feeling a bit wonderful, this morning.

I think I’ve come down with a cold.

Lovely!

I’ve got one question, there.   Why on Earth, when we get a blocked nose?

It’s always just the one nostril that gets blocked?

What on EATH’s happening, there?
