Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th September 2025

4th September, 2025.

Right.

It’s Thursday: and I’m skint.

Which is understandable: it’s the day before pay, after all.

But … ?

The bulb in my lamp, the screw-in bulb in my lamp with a screw-in bulb fitting, the screw-in bulb in my lamp with a screw-in bulb fitting that I don’t have a replacement for …

Is dead!

Bereft of life, it rests in peace: if it hadn’t been screwed into the socket, it’d be pushing up the daisies!

It’s not pining, it’s passed on.

You know the drill, by now!

At any rate … it’s done this, today: on Thursday.

The day before pay day, and the day before I’ll have the cash to replace it.

On a day where I’m up early, to head to hospital for blood tests?

That’s wonderful timing*!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-9-2024 — El Lay

4th September, 2024: El Lay.

It’s officially Wednesday … which frankly …

Means I’ve got the day free, having finished rendering a lot of videos!

I might just have to watch some TV in between everything else!

~≈¥≈~

As I’ve started writing this … ?

I’ve got the Today programme, Radio Four’s early morning current affairs programme, on in the background.

Do you remember hearing the news about the Grenfell Tower fire, back in 2017?

I certainly do: seeing the images of a burning tower block was one of the most shocking things I think I’d ever seen in my life.

Even now, it’s distressing to see.

What was shocking for me … ?

Was the fact I had a (thankfully) distant connection to it.

I worked for Pinnacle, at the time: the company handled out of hours emergency repair calls for various social landlords, including Kensington and Chelsea Council, the owners of Grenfell Tower*.

I knew the young woman who was on duty, that night: who handled the horde of emergency housing requests that started coming in.

Quite how Hayley coped, I don’t know.

But she ended up with Pinnacle’s equivalent of being mentioned in dispatches.

I can only hope that got her a pay rise, if nothing else.

At any rate, it was a shocking thing to see: this sort of thing is not supposed to happen in a civilised country.

If at all!

The reasons I mention all this … ?

Is relatively simple.

The Today programme tells us the inquiry is due to issue its report, today: at 11.00.

I can only hope that — given the deaths, injuries and trauma the fire caused — lessons can be learned, and future fires prevented.

We could do without another Grenfell.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-9-2023 — Newspaper Carrier Day.

4th September, 2023: Newspaper Carrier Day.

Normally?

I’d be officially telling you it’s officially Monday.

In an officially official kind of way.

With … you know … officially sprinkles.

So I thought I’d over do it, today.

Then move on …

As I’ve seen news.

It’s officially the case that — in an interview with The Advocate — 15th Doctor actor, Ncuti Gatwa, has outed himself.

Good for him.

I can only hope he doesn’t get a negative reaction, as a result!

I’m very aware the interview doesn’t answer the important question.

Or, at least, the important one from where I’m sitting?

The important question … is “Is Ncuti left handed?”

~≈⚖️≈~

Oh … you’ll’ve possibly realised I’m overweight.

Indeed, I’m off to a weight management meeting, this morning.

So?

Given I was one person initially prescribed Ozempic — the diabetes drug that’s helpful in reducing weight — until a shortage meant switching to another medication called Trulicity.

Which is helping my blood sugars: but, seemingly, not as good as a weight loss promoter.

At least, the rate of loss — for me — seems to have slowed.

It’s still heading down: just more slowly than it did on Ozempic.

Given that … ?

I was interested to hear that Wegovy is to be made available on the NHS: although in limited amounts.

Given its active ingredient is Semaglutide, something Wegovy shares with Ozempic?

Means I’ll have to ask my GP about it.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th September, 2022

4th September, 2022.

Right …

It’s now officially Sunday.

Which means that — bar doing the sort of stuff I’d usually do! — I’ll be thumb twiddling for most of the day!

Heigh-ho!

~≈Ç≈~

One bit of news?

Apparently, the government’s announced that a price cap on bus fares: between January and March of 2023.

Which is nice: especially if you’re making long distance trips.

I’m wondering if my usual fare — a trip to the High Street — will go up.

It’s usually £1·50 from here!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-9-2021: Beyoncé

4th September, 2021.

Did I mention chicken stew, yesterday … ?

No I didn’t: it was the day before.

I’m getting heartily sick of the parsnips in it: so I’ll possibly need to change the recipe.

If you can think of a parsnip replacement, I’d be happy to hear about it!

At ANY rate … ?

I’ve run out of chicken: but DO have a bag of frozen mince.

And, as much as I’m ok at making spaghetti sauce — it’s only bolognese if it’s made by Italians! — I’m thinking a change is as good as a rest.

Now …

If only I can remember my Chilli Con Carne recipe … !

The Mandalorian — Series 1 Chapter 7 — The Reckoning — A Review

4th September, 2020.

Right …

I’ll happily admit I was feeling decidedly glum, this morning.

I suffer with mild depression: and, after getting a funding request turned down?

Was feeling the emotional after effects.

Believe it or not?

I think telling you — yes, you, Mr, Ms or Mx Reader — seemed to help.

I’m not especially religious: certainly not Roman Catholic.

But I think that the Church may have a point: that the act of confession may have some uses.

~≈†≈~

Right at the moment?

You’re possibly aware that I’ve been blogging for many years.

Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar has been around for a while and seen a few changes.

At the moment?

I’m using the latest change to the interface that let’s me post.

I’m still unsure about it.

The Labels section — near the Publish button — seems to have been improved.

However, and as you can see in this experimental post?   The new interface cannot accept YouTube or Spotify embed codes.

Nor will it accept html tags.

Something the Legacy interface does very well.

I’m hoping that’s something Google will improve.

~≈†≈~

At any rate?

This was not — at least not completely — what I wanted to tell you.

No.

I’ve been watching TV.

Again.

And, as you’ve possibly worked out from the poster?

I’ve caught the penultimate episode of series one of The Mandalorian.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a cliffhanger.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th September, 2020

4th September, 2020.

Did I ever mention I suffer with depression?

I suffer with depression: usually, something that I cope with, with medication.

The recent funding decision, going against me?

Was definitely a blow.

I have to say, the one thing that does help?

Is quickly admitting I’m struggling: that two years on the dole, and no apparently way out at the moment?

Is getting me down.

Billie Piper’s Because We Want To banging around my head?

Isn’t necessarily helpful!

One bit of advise I do know I’ve found helpful?

Is the old saw we hear at AA meetings: ‘one day at a time.’

Frankly?

I’ve an episode of The Mandalorian, to watch: as it’s Friday?

That gives me something to look forward to.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-9-2019: The Big Game Show

4th September, 2019.

You know … I expected Brexit to be done, by now.

No, really: I expected — with great sadness — to see my country out of the European Union.

Much to my country’s great shame, and loss.

But …

Over the past few years, we haven’t.

For various reasons.

Last night … ?

Last night, Boris Johnson’s administration lost a key vote in the House of Commons.

And … ?

And, as a result, withdrew the whip from twenty-one rebel Tory MPs: including Tory veteran, Ken Clarke.

The government majority?

Has now gone for a Burton.

Usually … ?

I’m assuming there’s going to be a General Election.

But you never know …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-9-2018: The City of What …

4th September, 2018.

Right …

I’m mildly blessed: I’ve actually had a pay rise.

Granted: it’s only a pound an hour.

And granted, it’ll get eaten by the ticket price rise in January.

But right now?

It’s helpful.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-8-2017: Wolfenden.

Hmmm …

I’ve just had a look at the BBC’s news website.

And … ?

Right at the moment, the main headline’s about South Korea having a live missile firing exercise.

There’s also news that President Trump, and the White House, are throwing around words like ‘military,’ and ‘massive military response.’

Things look — to borrow from Orwell — plusungood.

Personally?

I’m quietly hoping this will blow over.

No, really: I hope we could be facing a storm in a teacup.

Right at the moment?

I’m thinking all it would take is for the wrong person to press the wrong button, and we could be in trouble.

Because one man accidentally drops a bomb* …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-9-2016

Right: I have to confess, I’m feeling a little rushed: after a very bad night at work.

It’s not completely a job-loss bad night at work.

But?

Frankly, it’s one of those nights you don’t want to have, too often.

I think I’ll find out more after today’s staff meeting.
