Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-12-2025 — Milton Obote.

28th December, 2025: Milton Obote.

Well, that’s me embarrassed … !

I’ve woken up, this morning, and turned on the heating … to find my boiler had lost pressure: and that I had no heating or hot water, as a result.

And twisting the relevant knob didn’t work.

So … ?

I started boiling a lot of water, for a bath, and phoned my landlords, to book an emergency repair.

Which, I was told, could take up to twenty-four hours …

I booked the repair, and went back to contemplating my navel, filling the bath, and trying to organise a blog post.

Whilst a niggling thought — and the possibility of twenty-four hours-worth of cold — kept poking me.

With that in mind, I went and checked the boiler, again … and twisted both of the knobs on the thing.

Yes, you’re right.

I did have to make an embarrassed phone call* …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th December 2024.

28th December, 2024.

Your know …

I think we can say it’s foggy, out.

Which I have to admit, I like.

Fog can add a certain beauty to the world, I think: a certain amount of romance you don’t necessarily get with sunnier weather.

It’s beautiful, mysterious and adds a certain something.

OK, I know: it’s causing problems at the UK’s airports.

But it looks gorgeous … !

Just as a thought?

I’m hoping bluray drive fans reading this can make a buying suggestion.

Which of the two drives listed here would be a suitable replacement for a dead Pioneer drive.

I need it to work with MakeMKV with little in the way of issues, or fiddling around!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th December, 2023 Teaser.

28th December, 2023.

Right …

I owe people a BIG “Thank You”.

As you know, my iMac — the machine that formed the technological backbone of both this blog, and my YouTube channel — rolled over and died, a few days ago.

And, thanks to the generosity of friends, family, and readers, I was able to fund repairs.

In theory.

Had the thing been fixable?   Fixing would’ve happened.

And insurance, extra storage, and extra cloud storage, would’ve happened.

It wasn’t.

Neither did the planned extras.

But?

Thanks to the generosity of many, I was able to fund buying a base-model, Mac mini.

One I was initially told would be delivered, tomorrow.

But eventually arrived, yesterday.

I am grateful for that.

As it only took an hour or so for me to;
  • Set up.
  • Sync most of my bookmarks and passwords.
  • Find and sync my Photo and media library.
  • Download and install operating system updates.
  • Download and install newer versions of software.
I’m grateful.

To everyone that’s helped, and that the process went well.

~≈💾≈~

Just in case you have donated?

And want to know what your money’s paid for?

It’s a 2023 model Mac mini: with 8gb of RAM, a 256gb solid state drive, and an M2 system-on-a-chip.

Attached to a Benq monitor, the Apple mouse and keyboard from my iMac, an external blu-ray drive, and both my media storage and Time Machine external hard drives.

Things I’ve owned for a while.

It’s not the most powerful machine in Apple’s current line-up* but — thus far — it seems to be working well: at least for my basic needs.
  • Handbrake, iMovie, and the various media/productivity apps, are working well.
  • My data is safe, useable and accessible.
  • Drag and Drop is working the way I expect it to.
  • I’m back using familiar keyboard shortcuts.
  • Formatting blog posts with my preferred software, is working!
Granted: I’ll need to replace it with something newer, at some point.

And — under ideal circumstances — I would’ve got something far more powerful.

But?

I’m grateful for what I’ve been given!

~≈💾≈~

As a last thought?

How do I feel about what’s happened?

There’s possibly a lot to say, there.

Grateful for the help I’ve received: that’s the important thing to stress.

But also?

Deeply upset about my iMac crashing the way it has.

I’ve had several Macs, over the years.

And, usually?

The build quality has been pretty damn good.

I’ve still got a sixteen-year-old, Mac Pro tower, that is showing its age: but still useable for some tasks.

And my original Mac mini only needs a replacement hard drive — if I can find one — to be functional, again.

So, for a six year old, 2017, iMac to go under the way mine did?   With short circuiting, a knackered power supply, and a duff screen?

Is shocking, to say the least.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-12-2022 — Iowa.

28th December, 2022: Iowa.

Yes!

The bank holidays are now over!

Phew!

Which sounds a strange thing to say, I know.

But …

The world’s most stressful holiday is over.

Now all we have to remember … is the fact it’s New Years Eve on Saturday.

It’s all fun and games, isn’t it … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th December, 2021

28th December, 2021.

Right …

It’s Tuesday, Blondie’s 11:59 is banging away through my head …

And I’ve something of a long day ahead of me.

I’ve still got to get a pay-as-you-go swipe card for my nephew.

And we’re celebrating his birthday — on Sunday, just gone — by going bowling.

Oh, and a meal.

It’s going to be comparatively long.

Now, with that said?   And as I’ve included a song from Parallel Lines?

Have a look at the cover: and tell me what that is on Debbie Harry’s left arm.

I’ve only just noticed that bandage: and I’ve had a copy of the albums for years!

Wonder Woman ’84: A Review.

28th December, 2020.

Right …

It’s late — is — on a Monday night: and I’ve just seen a rather enjoyable movie.

One I’m going to tell you more about, in the morning.

But?

Yes: I have seen Wonder Woman ’84.

And yes: it’s enjoyable!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-12-2020: Denzel

28th December, 2020.

Yep: it’s now, official, Bank Holiday Monday: the public we get, when Boxing Day’s on a Saturday or Sunday.

I’m expecting it to be quiet: as, after all, buses are running on a Sunday service, trains aren’t running …

And an Amazon delivery I’m expecting will turn up on Thursday, rather than Wednesday.

Which means one things, as the order includes a set of long tongs.

It means I’ll be boil washing my undies on Friday!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-12-2019: Stan Lee

28th December, 2019.

It has to be said, I’ve got bad news.

The interview I went for for?

Last week … ?

Decided not to hire me.

I have asked for feedback: which should come through on Monday.

Hopefully, that’ll be information I can use.

Assuming I get an interview that I can use it at … !

~≈†≈~

One nice thing that’s happened?

Is that I managed to catch a movie, last night.

Yep: I’ve finally caught Joker.

I think — in amongst the incoherent video review — we can say one thing.

It’s one hell of a movie.

Joaquin Phoenix’s performance is something else!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th December, 2018.

28th December, 2018.

Hmmm …

I think we can safely say that going back to bed has …

Well, definitely has appeal.

The fact that, after I made that intro, I had a nice hot cup of tea?

Does help keep me up.

The reason I’m tired?

I’m getting old!

Or staying up late to watch movies!

Am I the only one that thinks David Cronenberg’s Videodrome is just ever-so-slightly odd … ?

~≈§≈~

Talking of films?

I’ve got Radio 4’s Today programme on in the background: as ever.

They’ve told us that the BBC’s Film programme is to finish: after some forty-seven years.

The show, and its presenters — Barry Norman, Jonathon Ross and Claudia Winkleman — has built up a reputation for being both entertaining, accurate, and knowledgeable about its subject.

Personally?

I think that’s both a shame … and a mistake.

~≈§≈~

Oh, one other thing the Today programme mentioned?

Apparently, there are plans afoot to have more in-cell phones in UK prisons.

Yes: I can see there’s arguments — good arguments — about prison management, there.

But I’m also aware that — in many prisons — prisoners share cells.

I can’t help but think doing this will reduce violence on the wing — arguments about access to pay phones is a big cause of fights — but will increase the amount of in-cell violence.

As men sharing a cell argue about who’s turn it is to use the phone.

We’ll have to see.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th December, 2017.

Bleaugh …

It’s a Thursday … and a Thursday when I’m up early.

Yeah, you got it.

I’m at work, again.

And at work comparatively early.

I can’t complain too much: it is money, after all.

But, boy, I don’t think five o’clock starts are doing me any favours!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-12-2016: Westminster Abbey

Right …

I’m officially back at work, today.

And … ?

Well, I’m actually looking forward to it.

It’d be nice to get back into the swing of things.

All I can hope … ?

Is that, given the recent amount of celebrity deaths, that everyone’s still upright and breathing.
