Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th December 2025.

27th December, 2025.

Post Christmas, I have left-over decorations.

Courtesy of my cousin’s daughter and wife: their shop has quite a range.

The bauble I’m holding can be customised, so you know.

But, when I first got it?

Got me thinking not of Star Trek, but of drogna.

If you know what drogna are … ?

You’re older than you look.

One last Christmassy point?

I got Amazon gift cards: as I suspect so many of us do.

And … ?

Bought stuff on Amazon: managing to hit a discount option in the process.

This will sound counterintuitive … but it was something I didn’t want.

As I couldn’t work out if there were any hidden charges, either at the point of sale, or later.

So I contacted Amazon’s customer service people.

Who told me that, no: there would be no, extra, hidden charges.

I wasn’t reassured.

So, yesterday morning?

I sent the inevitable email to Jeff Bezos.

And got a far more reassuring reply: confirming what the customer service people had told me.

No: there’s were to be not extra charges.

Thank heavens for that.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th December, 2024

27th December, 2024.

Right then … my nephew, Jude, is now, officially fourteen.

And the proud — or possibly confused — owner of a Chromebook.

Whether he’s one or the other?

He was very polite about it.

Especially as I helped him set the thing up, and find out some of its basic capabilities.

You know: where the camera is, how to do screen shots, look up things on line.

And signing into BlueskyX and YouTube.

Oh, and learn how to do a barrel roll.

I’m mildly jealous of the barrel roll … !

Now …

Did I mention I got biffed in the face by Bobby the Cat … ?

~≈🐱≈~

Oh, just as a quick thought … ?

I’ve had at least one comment on my review of The War Games In Colour.

From one of the people involved with its colourisation!

I’m grateful to them for leaving it: and pleased I got it!

Nik Nak's Daily Teaser — 27-12-2023 — 361

23rd December, 2023: 361.

Right ... it’s officially Wednesday.

And frankly?   I was expecting a new Mac Mini, on Friday: Friday the 29th, I should say.

Apparently, though?

It’s now due, today.

I’ve even been sent text messages about it.

I can only hope it gets here soon: it would be nice to set things up, early!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-12-2022 — Marlene on the Wall.

27th December, 2022: Marlene on the Wall.

Yes: it’s Tuesday.

A day when I’m expecting my nephew to visit.

So yes, of course: there’s hopefully going to be video.

At any rate … ?

It’s also a bank holiday: a public holiday, if you don’t know the term.

Does that make much of a difference?

Nope.

But, lord … I’d be looking forward to the overtime, if I were working.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th December, 2021.

27th December, 2021.

Yep: it’s official a bank holiday.   At least: today and tomorrow are.

Not that it makes much difference to me, personally … but I know buses won’t necessarily be running.

And some shops won’t be open.

Which could be awkward.

We need to get a Swipe card, to put money on Jude’s new phone …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-12-2020: Ned’s Tongue.

27th December, 2020

I think it’s a definite … it’s getting nippier.

Which is something the BBC’s weather page is telling me …

And something I managed to mention, yesterday, on Instagram …

~≈🎁≈~

Did I mention Christmas?   Just out of curiosity?

I think I did …

But didn’t mention I got some very appreciated Amazon gift vouchers, and an iTunes card?

The latter will come in handy: I’ve had my eye on the Count Arthur Strong Show for a while!

As for the Amazon vouchers?

They’ve been gratefully received … and used on an external, 4k, blu-ray drive.

Hopefully?

That will come in useful.

I can only hope the gifts I gave went down as well.

I know someone got a hat for his birthday, day: I gather it hasn’t been removed, yet!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th December, 2019

27th December, 2019.

Right …

We’ve officially come to the end of both Christmas … and my nephew’s birthday.

I think we can safely say all presents have been gratefully received: and used.

Including, I should add, the Chromecast.

Given Liverpool were playing on my nephew’s birthday … ?

Watching the match on Amazon Prime proved both enjoyable, appropriate, and showed my family how to use the thing.

That’s good.

Me, on the other hand, working out how access the information points on Lego Avengers?

Proved tricky.

But not as tricky as getting Hulk across the bridge.

Turns out getting Iron Man had to zap the logs on top of the hill, helped …

Videodrome: A Review

27th December, 2018

Between you and me … ?

Life … 🎶 is the name of the game … ♬ …

No, stop singing, Paul, you’ll put people off!

At any rate …

Life gives you a very small budget, sometimes.

And forces you to rely not Netflix: but whatever you have in your back catalogue.

Something I know I’ve been doing over the past few weeks.

As you might have guessed … ?

My collection’s, extensive, ever changing and has the odd film in it.

Tonight … ?

Tonight saw me watching another movie.

One I’d seen in my collection, last night, and was thinking I should look at: until The Invasion of The Bodysnatchers demanded I watch it.

Yes …

You’ve worked it out from the poster, haven’t you?

I watched 1983, David Cronenberg film, Videodrome …

~≈¥≈~

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th December, 2018

27th December, 2018.

Yep: it’s true.

I had a dream, last night: after watching Invasion of The Bodysnatchers.

It was a weird old thing, too.

I was trapped, on the floor of a lift: a jammed lift.

With something horrible — I got the impression it was female — trying to get through the door.

And very aware that I had to keep really still: otherwise whatever it was would seriously get me.

It was that unnerving … ?

I actually woke up.

And was able to send myself a just about coherent email about it.

At twenty to four in the morning.

Tell me …

Have you got any idea what the hell THAT was about … ?

~≈§≈~

That’s one quick point.

Over the past few months, many Western governments have decided to stop using Huawei kit in various infrastructure projects.

Western governments … apart from the UK.

I’ve always felt governments should encourage their own IT sectors in various ways: infrastructure, operating systems*, what have you.

The UK’s government has always seemed slow to act on that front.

However?

It turns out that BT is to remove Huawei kit from the telecommunications network it’s building for Britain’s emergency services: and that others have their doubts about using Huawei parts for Britain’s 5g mobile network.

Frankly?

I’m glad to hear it.

Just as long as Huawei isn’t replaced by Ericsson …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th December 2017

You know, if you’ve not seen Twice Upon a Time, you might want to skip this bit: little bit of a spoiler.

But, as I’m sure many of us know, by now, Rusty the Dalek — who first appeared in Into the Dalek — made a reappearance.

As a way for Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor to investigate Dalek information about the episode’s villains.

Personally?

I was rather pleased about that.

I felt, back when Into the Dalek first aired that Rusty was something of an interesting character: one that could well be re-used.

I think Moffat, in his last episode?   Came up with a very use for the universe’s only ‘good’ Dalek.

As an extreme, and carefully used, information broker.

I hope Chris Chibnall picks up on that.

The Strain Series 3: Episodes 8, 9 and 10 — White Light, Do or Die and The Fall

27th December, 2016.

It has to be said, 2016 is getting a reputation for celebrity death.

I mean Bowie, Prince, Peter Vaughan …

And today … ?   Sees the loss of writer, Richard Adams — the man behind the much loved Watership Downand the death of the much loved Carrie Fisher: who everyone hoped would survive The heart attack she had a few days ago.

Both are incredible losses.

~≈Ê≈~

Especially — on a personal level — that of Carrie Fisher.

I don’t know about you?   But I was one of that generation for whom Star Wars was the science fiction movie.

Let’s be blunt, that film had a huge influence: especially for us science fiction fans.

Before it came out?

Before it debuted, science fiction was a joke genre.

Afterwards?

People realised it was big money.

That film was made, when a mixture of factors came together.

One of those?

Was the beautifully put together cast.

Star Wars would have not been Star Wars without Carrie Fisher.

I think she honestly help change a genre.

~≈Ê≈~

Frankly?

Frankly, I think that — given a day like today — catching up with some — comparatively — light and frothy TV seemed to be in order.

OK …

The Strain isn’t going to be everyone’s idea of light and frothy.

But …

~≈Ê≈~

Carrie Fisher

I saw this on the BBC and thought you should see it: Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher dies -
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-38446753

Good Gods!

I’ve got the news on ... and the BBC’s news channel has just announced the death of Star Wars star, Carrie Fisher.

I don’t know about you, but that film, and her part in it, were a big part of my childhood.

AND, I think, the reason why science fiction are now so huge.

I’m quietly shocked and saddened to hear the news: after all, I — like many, I suspect — were hoping she’d recover from her recent heart attack.

The woman who touched so many, AND help change the face of science fiction … ?

Will be missed.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-12-2016

Oh, now, this is where the Christmas period gets nasty!

I’ve got a cold!

Right now?

I’m coughing in a way that I — as an ex-smoker — find very familiar.

And frankly?

My nose isn’t just running, it’s sprinting: in a way that’s possibly going to make me look uncomfortably like a cocaine addict!

I think the last of my Christmas money?

Is going on cold remedies!
