Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th January 2026.

20th January, 2026.

For me, right now … ?

It’s getting towards pay day: on Friday.

Which means?

That right now, I’m feeling skint, blue … and mildly frustrated.

Not having cash will do that do a body, won’t it?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th January 2025.

20th January 2025.

Yay!

It’s Monday … !

And, as ever, I’m up early!

Yes:L it’s Weight Management Day.

And, having maintained my weight, last week?

I’m hoping to have lost something.

Given it’s another cold day?

I’m expecting to lose something by shivering!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th January 2024

20th January, 2024.

Right: it’s Saturday morning.

And?

If you’re in my neck of the woods, you’ve possibly woken up: and made aware Storm Isha is going to be doing damage.

And if you’re specifically in the south east?   It gets worse on Monday.

Let’s be careful, out there!

~≈Î≈~

Yes: I also woke up with an earworm.

Obscurely?

It was a brief clip from a Buffy: The Vampire Slayer episode called “Once More, with Feeling”.

Quite why I’ve had a song about bunnies going through my head … ?

I really don’t know!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th January 2023 Teaser.

20th January, 2023.

Right, it’s officially official.

I’m up early.

As I’ve got a meeting with my Job Centre case worker at 11.

I’m thinking I should go back to bed.

After all, an early start after a late night finish, reviewing a movie.

Here’s hoping the meeting goes well: and that everyone enjoys the review.

~≈Ç≈~

One thing I do know?

Is the my appeal — over the Job Centre’s refusal of extra help — is still going on.

I’ve been chasing the Government’s Court Service for some time, now: to see when, or if, a hearing would take place.

It seems part of the reason I HADN’T heard … ?

Was that — somewhere along the line — my case had been duplicated: and assigned two different case number.

And that — along side this — the relevant bodies at the Department of Work and Pensions hadn’t sent in the relevant paperwork.

Or, at least, hadn’t sent it in, under the right case number.

They’ve now re-submitted it.

I’ve not heard about a hearing date, as yet: but have been given an online .GOV account — another one! — so I can keep track of things.

That could be handy.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th January, 2022.

20th January, 2022.

Yep: I’ve got an early start, today!

Mostly … ?

Because I’ve got the second in a series of Zoom meetings: with a weight management service.

It’s ninety minutes long, I should add: something I found to be something of a chore, if I’m being honest.

The fact it’s a group setting should be useful: those always seem to be, from the little I’ve seen.

Here’s hoping.

~≈§≈~

Just as a thought … ?

I worked in a call centre, a few years ago: and left a while ago.

When I left … ?   I was being paid eleven pounds an hour.

As were some of the new starters: which possibly tells you something.

At any rate?

One of the job boards I’ve signed up for, sent me an advert for the same post.

At nine pounds an hour.

I ignored it.

But I’ll tell you what …

Something’s gone on there … !

Troll Bridge — A Review

20th January, 2021.

Right …

It’s a Wednesday evening, as I start this post.

And?

Frankly, I’m going to go to bed, in a minute: at a time that — twenty years ago — I would have said is a ridiculously early time to go to bed.

But?

The older I get, the more being in bed with a good read is the height of a good time!

So I’m planning to hit the sack with an Arthur Machen story.

But … ?

I felt I should tell you’ve I’ve finally seen the short film version of Terry Pratchett’s Troll Bridge.

And utterly loved it!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-1-2021: David Lynch

20th January, 2021.

Hmmm …

I’m feeling mildly rushed.

Why?

I’ve a phone meeting, today: with my Work and Health case worker, today.

At the last call?   I was told the group running the programme would be organising contact with a nurse for me: to discuss various things.

As far as I can tell, given the phone situation?

They’s not contacted me.

I think I’ll need words …

For All Mankind — Series 1: Episode 1 — Red Moon — A Review

20th January, 2020.

I have to confess, I’ve had a quiet day …

Really.

I’m jobhunting, at the moment: and, as you might guess?

A lack of cash, and bad weather … means staying in.

And waiting the interminable wait of the man … waiting for his boiler to be fixed.

Don’t.

No, don’t!

It’s a very long story.

At any rate … ?

At any rate, I’m indoors: and thinking I should be watching something a tough different.

At least … different for me …

Yes.

Red Moon.

In other words, episode one of the first series of AppleTV+’s For All Mankind.

It seems …  hmmm …

Let’s do a summary, shall we?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th January 2020 Teaser

20th January, 2020.

Right …

Just so everyone knows?

I should — should — be hearing from a certain contractors, today.

About whether my boiler’s going to be replaced or repaired.

Hopefully …

~≈¥≈~

Scrub hopefully … !

The contractors have just phoned.

They’ll be over to replace the boiler tomorrow, between eight and one.

An electrician will be out, to check the wiring, the day after.

I think the word is yayness!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th January, 2019.

20th January, 2019.

Right … it’s a definite: I saw the Claude Rains/Jame Whale version of The Invisible Man, last night.

It’s quite something to watch: especially when Griffin, the Invisible Man himself?

Unwraps the bandages.

The phrase ‘skull-like’ springs to mind.

And, from what I can tell?

The bit’s of the film where Rains, as the central character, unwraps the bandages from his head are done with a very early version of Colour separation overlay.

The same thing that powers the animation you’ll see at the start of today’s intro video.

One day … ?

I’ll get the hang of it!

~≈§≈~

There’s one sad bit of news I caught, last night.

No, nothing to do with Brexit, OR Prince Phillip.

Actually?   It was a car bomb … outside a courthouse in what’s variously called Derry, or Londonderry.

No one was killed or injured, but neither has any group claimed responsibility.

But, having grown up in England during the Troubles?

I’d hate to see those Troubles restarted.

Especially if those who’ve done this, have done this in response to the Brexit negotiations, with all the talk of a Backstop*.

Here’s hoping.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-1-2018: On Islands.

*Yawn*

Again with the yawning!

Again … because I’m up early for work.

In one sense?

In one sense, it’s knackering, it really is.

And I’m not getting any younger!

The upside … ?

Is that it means I get the night off.

OK, granted, I’m not going to do anything more that get an early night …

But hitting the sack does have some appeal, right now … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-1-2017

*Yawn.*

Again … !

I have to admit to being up, late, last night.   But wanted to catch a film.

With the result, of course, that I ended up staying up, late, doing my write up.

The film in question?

Good little film, I should add.

About my only concern … ?

Is the simple fact I’d ripped the copy I have from a work-mate’s DVD copy.

I used HandBrake: an application I’ve used for years, and usually one that’s fairly reliable.

It still is.

About the only flaw I could find?   Is that the film was formatted in a 4:3 aspect ration: and couldn’t be resized.

Out of the box, with the up-dated versions of HandBrake, that’s not a good thing.

I think, though?

I can learn how to tweak the settings, to remedy that.

Here’s hoping.

The Daily Teaser — 20-1-2016

Right, here we go …

I’m back to work, today.

After a couple of days off that went rather well.

At least, as far as I’m concerned.

The staff christmas do on Monday: which was fun.

And I managed to catch Future Shock! The Story of 2000AD, last night.

Nice to get some of the history behind the comic that was and is the modern equivalent of The Eagle: and see the face of Brian Bolland, one of my favourite artist on the title.

Future Shock! is quite something to catch!
