I’ve just spent ten minutes working out how much spending money I’ve got!

And swearing at the DWP: as the annual increase in Universal Credit doesn’t go very far.

I would say that pay raise is better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick.

23rd April, 2025: By the Book/World Book Night.

Did I mention I’ve got a film on order … ?

I’ve got a film on order — The Rubber-keyed Wonder: 40 Years of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum — which should be with me, today.

In case you’re wondering … ?

It’s a documentary about one of Britain’s best known home computers: the ZX Spectrum.

I had one, myself.

Given that … ?

You can bet I was interested in get a copy of the documentary.

We’ll have to see if I can review it at some point.

Or find an online copy of Atic Atak.

That was possibly the best game written for the machine!

Today is Saint George’s Day, Payday … and probably a very good day to do shopping.

Now, really!

Except there’s an issue.

Yes: it’s officially bucketing down, out there.

I’ll tell you what: I think there’s going to be some very happy cabbies, out there!

It’s officially official: it’s both Tuesday … and payday … 

Hopefully … ?

I’ll have enough cash for a haircut.

But … ?

Am very aware I council tax payments start this month: so may have to wait until next month, when my benefit payments increase.

That’s frustrating: I’m getting shaggy!

One possible source of help?

Is that I may — may — be due some money.

I said — in yesterday’s post — that my landlord had been forced to compensate a tenant in Hertfordshire, after setting service charges at too high a rate.

Mine were £194 a month for last tax year: and £21 a month for this.

So … ?

I gave Clarion, my landlords, a call to highlight this.

And got told they’re ‘putting the process in motion’ for me.

I think I won’t get a thing: or that this year’s charges will go up.

But … ?

At least I’ve raised the issue.

Additionally?

I’ve due to have a hearing about my application for PIP, for Personal Independence Payments.

I’ve asked the relevant office when that hearing will be.

And been told — yesterday — that my case is “Ready To List”: and that, once a hearing’s been booked, I’ll be told by post.

The sooner that happens?

The better.

I’m not exactly what you call patient.

I’m going shopping, today.

Which is a shame: I don’t think it’s the weather for it!

Yes: it’s payday.

Which means?   Lots of things: as you’d expect.

Mostly?   Mostly, shopping, bill paying and stuff!

But possibly also involving a haircut: if there’s a barber’s with no queue …

I mentioned, yesterday, that I’d be heading into Romford: to sell off some stuff at the Romford branch of CeX.

I got an OK price for it, in the end.

Although we had to do a little haggling over the external blu-ray writer I was trying to sell.

CeX’s stock is all second hand, so you know: they buy it in from someone at one price, and then sell it on for another, higher, price.

They sold the specific model I was selling for some eighty-five pounds: but bought it in for some twelve quid.

They sold generic ones for fifty-two quid: and bought those in for thirty.

I settled for the generic price, understandably.

But that price difference?

Seems a little … odd.

There is indeed, stuff happening!

For a start?

I’ve just made today’s Teaser video in something of a rush: as I only realised I’d forgotten it, when I made the last batch.

If it looks a bit rushed?   That’s because it was!

Something I know … ?

Is that the UK’s National Health Service is — right now — having a crisis.

It’s got a lack of personal protective equipment.

I’ve got to confess, I’ve been listening to this morning’s edition of the Today programme: who’ve had  the boss of at least one PPE supplier, this morning: complaining that he can’t get through to anyone, in order to sell his stock of visors.

Then there was the company who has been selling PPE kit to Europe … as their offer to sell to the NHS, and the government, has been ignored.

There’s possibly more.

Frankly?

Covid 19 has put the word into a situation like no other.

But the PPE situation … ?

Sounds … bad …

I had a bit of a late night, last: watching the Jack Nicholson film that is One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

It has to be said: sometimes, it’s only when we re-watch these things, we realise quite how powerful they are!

Right …

Something I worked out, last night was that my left eyelid has started to work.

Started, I should stress.

Which is good.

A few weeks ago … ?   I managed to go down with Bell’s Palsy: a type of facial paralysis caused by an infection.

On the left hand side of my face, so you know.

So the fact that I’m starting to be able to wink … ?   However imperfectly?

Means I’m recovering.

As for prayer … ?

I mentioned, yesterday, that I’d prayed: hard.

Despite being an agnostic.

I’ve been having money problems, recently: and, despite my agnosticism, have found prayer to be … helpful.

It allows me to make the assumption that someone’s listening.

And, even if not listening, taking direct action, or offering advise?

Then, at least, getting my subconscious to grind into gear, to come up with an idea of how to deal with the situation.

Something concerning me, yesterday, and last night, watching Hotel.

Something I can do, today.

I can only hope that the phone call I need to make?
