Mild, thankfully: so I’m just waiting for the vitamin D to kick in.

I’ve got to admit: I know exactly what I said, when I got out of bed, this morning.

That getting more sleep would be a good idea.

Why … ?

It’s getting colder, as we getting nearer to winter.

And, frankly?

Anything that means you stay under a nice warm duvet is very attractive.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19-10-2024 — The First Battle of Ypres

19th October, 2024: The First Battle of Ypres.

It’s official: I’ve had bits delivered.

Including a stand for my TV: which is nice.

It means I can see the screen my coffee table.

I’ve also had a sofa from Wayfair delivered: by Evri.

They had told me the thing was going to turn up between 19:00 and 21:00.

So, of course, I headed the Romford branch of CeX: to sell off my old AppleTV 4k and old eight terabyte external drive.

I got on the train by 12:30 … which is when I got a text message from Evri telling me they were coming between twelve and two, 12:00 and 14:00.

They left it outside the building, when they couldn’t get in.

Outside the building.

I’m not happy.

Granted, I was out.

But … ?

A few seconds work — pressing the Trade button on the doorbell panel —would’ve got the driver in, and dropping the thing at my door!

Ho-hum!

Just as a bit of politics?

Apparently, Tim Cook — the CEO of Apple — has complained about Apple’s EU tax case.

To no less a person than Donald Trump.

At least, that’s what Donald Trump said in an interview, yesterday.

According to various news reports … ?

Apple has ‘ … declined to comment.’

Their usual policy on this things looks sensible, under the circumstances … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19-10-2021: Oxfordshire Day

19th October, 2021.

Right … 

It has to be said: we have an occasional rat problem in our building.

That near enough everyone has been complaining about.

It finally came to a point when one neighbour sent around a letter: reminding us of who’d been visited by rats, and who to get in touch with at Clarion, out landlords.

Which got practically everyone emailing them, and local journalist Piers Meyler.

According to the email I got from Clarion, last night?

‘We’ve arranged for Abate Pest Management to carryout communal treatment works and they’ll also be accessing multiple properties on their visit.   To ensure Abate can access necessary parts of the building we’ve given then your contact details.   Abate will contact you to arrange necessary appointments within the next 48 hours.’

Hopefully?

We can get the problem sorted.

Although, given many of us feel our previous landlords were a lot better at keeping in touch with residents?

I think none of us were surprised that it’s taken some prodding to get Clarion moving.

As an extra thought … ?

You’ll have realised that I had a rough sleeper on my doorstep, at the end of September.

To cut a long story short*, my landlords fitted a plate over the lock of my building’s main door … which then got removed.

I’m still not happy about that.

I have managed to get in touch with the relevant wonk over at Clarion Housing.

He’ll be investigating … once he gets back from leave!

Personally?

I’m thinking ‘Sod the investigation: get someone to put the plate back!’

I’ll have to tell him that when he gets back …

It’s officially official: I actually forgot to phone my landlords, yesterday.

About my boiler!

It sounds like it’s going to need replacing at some point … !

I’ve managed to email them, though: and can always follow that up on Monday.

In the midst of all that … ?

In the midst of all that, Parliament is meeting today: on a Saturday.

The first Saturday meeting since the Falklands War.

It’s so MPs can vote on the Leaving deal Boris Johnson and the EU have brokered.

I’m not sure I follow all of the ins and outs.

I can only hope we — you and me, the voters of the UK — get a vote in a second referendum.

I know I’d be voting remain, again.

Yep, it looks like I’m going to have to be going into Wilko’s today.

Or possibly Poundland, depending on which I reach first.

As the lightbulb in my lamp went, last night: when I was writing about more episodes of The Man in the High Castle.

It’s lucky it happened the day before payday.

It means I can get a fresh one … without waiting … !

Hmmm … 

That seemed to go nervously … 

As you possibly know, I’ve recently started a new job: in a call centre in Chelmsford.

Last night, for two hours?

I was taking calls: both fielding incoming ones, and doing the various bits of logging required.

According to my training buddy?

I did well enough.

Although, right now … ?

I still feel rather nervous about it: although I seem to be handling more calls than my fellow trainees.

Which seems a good sign.

Here’s hoping … !
