Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th September 2025.

7th September, 2025.

Right … it’s official: I’ve got my written and video reviews of “Terrarium”, the recent episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, up.

I can only hope the review does as well as Melissa Navia did in the episode!

~≈🖖≈~

I mentioned I was expecting a delivery, yesterday: of some blu-rays, along side a couple of other bits.

The blu-rays?

Included an updated version of The Young Ones: quietly re-coding as we speak.

And included season two of Dr Who: Ncuti Gatwa’a last in the role.

There is still no news about a third season: Disney-sponsored or otherwise.

There’s only talk — and assumptions — that The War Between Land and Sea, the UNIT themed spin-off, will air at some point in 2026.

I’m looking forward to that.

But … ?

I would rather have had a third, Ncuti Gatwa-led, season, rather than the spin-off: that way, the ‘real’ story, the one we didn’t get, couldn’t’ve been finished.

It’s disappointing, knowing we’ve missed something.

~≈👨🏿‍⚕️≈~

One last thing, about the delivery?

There were a couple of other bits, as well.

One thing?

A couple of teabag tongs: so I can squeeze out teabags, in the cup.

I’d like to avoid burnt fingers!

The other?

Was some test strips for my blood sugar monitor.

Yes: I can get them on prescription: and intend to put in another request, this week.

But the things come in pots of fifty, compared to the box of one hundred lancets: and go quickly!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th September 2024.

7th September, 2024.

Yay!

It’s Saturday!

Which means we’ll allowed to dance about in a way that borders on frenzied.

So long as our knees allow it.

On a more serious note?

I’ve got a reviewed planned.

Keep your eyes peeled.

~≈∑≈~

OK … we watch the news, don’t we?

Or, at least, we pay attention to it: and, therefore, we know that there’s been another school shooting in the US.

In Georgia.

Both the fourteen year-old shooter, and his father*, have been arrested: and charged in connection with the crimes.

We also know the USA is holding a presidential election, this November.

What we may not realise?

Is that Republic vice-presidential candidate, JD Vance, has given a campaign speech about it: in which he calls such things a ‘fact of life’.

Referred to the killer as ‘a psychopath’ …

And says that US school security should be boosted.

Frankly?   I don’t know if the killer is psychotic.

But is a hormonal teenager who’s been brought up in a culture that has easy access to guns.

As for boosting school security?

I think Mr Vance only has the half of it.

America needs better gun control: not just better security or shooter drills.

Just as a last point … ?

I was in Brentwood High Street, on Thursday: and forgot to mention a bit of a find.

We have plenty of gadget shops in town: as, I suspect, do many others!

I went past one … and noticed the vintage G4 Power Mac they had in the window!

I had one, myself, many years ago: one significantly older than the pictured one!

I don’t know if it’s functional: I suspect not.

I do know it’s not for sale, as I asked the assistant about it.

But?

It was nice to see.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-9-2023 — The International Criminal Police Organisation.

7th September, 2023: The International Criminal Police Organisation.

Yep: it’s Thursday.

Which means … it’s the day before I watch the next episode of Good Omens.

I’m looking forward to that.

~≈Ç≈~

If you’re in the UK, you’re possibly aware that there’s something of a scandal.

About buildings that have been built with concrete called ‘Reinforced Autoclave Aerated Concrete,’ or RAAC.

A form of concrete that’s turning out to be a lot weaker than it could be.

It’s causing something of a fuss: especially as many schools seem to have been built with it.

The government has released a list of the affected schools: that you can find, here.

Personally?

I’m just grateful Jude’s school isn’t affected.

Although I suspect he isn’t!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-9-2022: Fiji

7th September, 2022.

Yes: it’s official.

Radio Four* is on: and Amol Rajan has just used the phrase, ‘Policy Wonk,’ on an open channel.

At least my socks are dry.

Which is nice.

Frankly?

I can put my feet up, and look up the word wonk.

~≈Α≈~

Donald Trump’s possibly in trouble.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation raided his Mar-a-Lago estate, recently.

And, according to news, today?

According to the Guardian, one of the documents recovered ‘described a foreign government’s nuclear capabilities.’

The sort of thing a former government official is only supposed to have access to under very limited circumstances.

There’s questions, there.

Which government?

And?

Why did Trump have them?   Especially after he was out of office.

I’d hate to accuse him of planning to sell them to America’s enemies.

But I bet I’m not the only person who’s thought of that … … …

Lovecraft Country — Series 1 Episode 1 — Sundown: A Review

7th September, 2021.

 Right …

It’s getting late at night: so we can safely say that it’s no longer sunny.

It’s dark out, in point of fact.

Which I can live with, especially after a long day.

At any rate?   Having done a few bits indoors, done the usual jobhunting, and done various bits for Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar?

I have to admit that I was at a loose end: and fancied watching something.

With no idea if that something was going to be a film or TV show.

Oh, I’ve access to plenty of films.

But I’d see a few, recently, and fancied a change of pace.

Given today saw the death of Michael K. Williams, and that he had a part in the series I’ve had in the collection for a while?

I felt making a start on Lovecraft Country seemed the thing.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-9-2021: Rosh Hashanah.

7th September, 2021.

Right … it’s official Tuesday: and it’s officially open windows day.

Frankly?

It’s going to be a warm day.

Quite why it’s this warm, at the start of September, I couldn’t tell you.

I do know I’m going to be uncomfortable!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-9-2020: The Boxer Rebellion

7th September, 2020.

Right …

I’ve officially finished the last bit of laundry.

And … ?

I’ve reached the conclusion that regular Old Peculiar reader, Nina, has a good point.

Boiling washing you teatowels, occasionally, helps.

Long story, before you ask.

All I need now?

Is a separate pot to wash them in.

If anyone’s got £30 going spare, I’d appreciate hearing about it!

So would Amazon!

~≈¥≈~

At any rate: if you’ve seen today’s video introduction?

I’ve got — or had — a song playing around my head, all morning.

And, post Mandalorian?

It’s got a Baby Yoda remix …

Hey ho!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-9-2019: Dario

7th September, 2019.

Yes: it’s officially official.

I went to the interview, yesterday.

And … ?

It didn’t necessarily go as I expected.

I was supposed to be interviewed by the shop manager: who I’d been interviewed by, at the last interview.

Instead?   I got interviewed by her assistant.   Who didn’t introduce himself, who told me ‘their system was down*,’ and who seemed …

Very young and inexperienced†.

And very dis-engaged with with the process: I was a checkbox exercise, so to speak.

I wasn’t even asked for the ID documents I’d been asked to bring along.

Frankly?

Frankly, I was mildly confused by the interview.

Mildly confused, mildly angry … and mildly insulted.

After all, I wasn’t being interviewed by the person who was supposed to be interviewed by.

And came away with the impression that:
  1. I was being used as a training exercise for the young man who interviewed me.
  2. The person who wasn’t interviewing me was avoiding me: and any legitimate questions I had.
Frankly?

I’m not expecting to get the job.

I feel vaguely used.

And have actually complained to the relevant person in the HR department.

Under those circumstances?

I’m not sure I want the job.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7th September, 2018

7th September, 2018.

Yep: it’s payday.

And yep: I’m officially wondering how long the cash is actually going to last.

It’s always the way, isn’t it … ?

At ANY rate … ?

I THINK I’m better off than British Airways.

They’ve just had a huge amount of customer data stolen.

Someone’s going to get fined.

~≈§≈~

Either way … ?

Either way, I’m looking forward to Monday: that’s my next day off.

Frankly?

I’m looking to that: AND to when the pay rise kicks in.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-9-2017: The Blitz

Oh, now I hate that … !

I like the odd punt, every so often.

A couple of quid on the Thunderball, if you must know.

I try and keep an eye on it.

After all, I know I have my issues with the demon drink: so keeping an eye open on other potentially addictive behaviours is sensible.

But … ?

A couple of quid on a dream … ?

Or, at least, on the hopes of huge amounts of money?

That I can live with.

Although I suspect that, like Mavis Wanczyck, the winner of the biggest lottery prize in US history, I’d rather have a big pot of cash.

Couldn’t we all just?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 7-9-2016

You know … It’s day three of joblessness …

And I manage avoid an interview!

One of the manager for a local post office literally phoned me, yesterday: to see if I could come in for an interview.

I said ‘No’: as I wanted to write a letter of complaint to my former employers, about the way things had gone.

I’m KICKING myself!   As the job sounded ideal!

Once I’d finished what I had to do?   I managed to phone the interviewer, to let her know I’d be available for the rest of the day.

But lord knows what’s going to happen, there … !

~≈†≈~

Another thing to worry about?   At least, to be kicking myself about?

Is the finances.

I’m now claiming benefits: and due to have my initial claim interview, tomorrow.

I can live with that.

But?

Only a few days ago, I’d’ve been looking forward to the 5th November: as the day sees the release of the completely animated version of The Power of the Daleks.

The long lost story is a Dalek one — obviously — and notable for being Troughton’s first.

I’m mildly gutted!

But hoping a minor miracle happens, to let me afford it …
