Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th August 2026.

5th August, 2026.

Yes: I’ve officially decided to open this post with a lot of old trolley!

So … ?

There’s nothing new, there, then … !

~≈🧇≈~

On a more serious note?

Seemingly, there’s elections due in some local councils.

Including ones for Somerset Council, next year.

The Tories have a problem with Joshua Bonehill-Paine: who’s one of their candidates.

Whilst he’s apologised for his behaviour … ?

It seems he has a history of anti-semitic behaviour: being imprisoned for various racially aggravated crimes.

He’s has served time for them.

Now, I’ll happily admit: a person can change.

Rehabilitating an inmate is part of a prison’s role, after all.

Personally, though?

Were I Kemi Badenoch, were I Tory party leader …

I’d be seriously re-thinking letting the chap stand …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th August 2025.

06.15 — 5th August, 2025.

It’s officially official: I’m officially up early, and in an official capacity.

Well … possibly not.

But … ?

I’m up early: as I’m expecting repair men to fix my washing machine.

It’s today, I believe they’re due early …

But don’t know for sure.

Either way: I’m up early, officially or up early, to let them in.

Hopefully?

It’s not going to cost much … !

~≈🧺≈~

I was up, early, yesterday, as well.

Attending a weight management class.

I’ve good news, there: my weight’s down by some two hundred grams.

So … ?

I’m happy.

But also very aware that — if I stop using the weight loss drug I’m on? — I’m at risk of re-gaining the weight.

Something confirmed by this piece from the BBC.

According to that article, NICE, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, have warned many who stop dieting will put weight back on.

And should be supported once they’ve come off the drugs.

That’s a sensible warning.

09.15 — 5th August, 2025.

It’s officially official!

Mackfields have officially visited, and sorted out the problem with the washing machine.

It turns out the elbow joint that connected the machine’s drainpipe to the sink had blocked!

I’m mildly thankful it wasn’t anything expensive!

And also thankful I know where else to check, the next time this happens …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-8-2024 — Burkina Faso

5th August, 2024: Burkina Faso.

It’s official: I’m not up early!

I’ve taken the day off from my weight management class, today: as I’m having to fast, in preparation for a colonscopy, tomorrow.

Fast …

And take what’s called a bowel prep.

Frankly?

With the sedatives and relaxants you have to take, the procedure, itself, is uncomfortable, invasive and not necessarily what I’d call fun.

But?

It’s a lot better than the bowel prep!

Doubleplusungood’ still seems the only word to use, here!

Especially as I need to stay near a bathroom!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th August 2023.

5th August, 2023,

Right … it’s Saturday.

And?

Frankly, I’m grateful I’m not in the south west, or in Northern Ireland.

There’s serious weather warnings out for those regions.

I grant you it’s not looking good, here in Brentwood.

But Danger to Life tags have been add to the warnings for Storm Antoni*.

That sounds serious.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-8-2022 — Joseph Merrick

5th August, 2022.

Yes: it’s finally Friday.

Which, frankly, means I’m looking forward to watching another episode of Star Trek Picard, tonight.

The series is going well: and in a lot less time than the fourth series of Stranger Things.

At any rate … ?

Today’s a busy — ish — day.

I’ve a phone meeting with my Job Centre case worker, this morning … and one with my Restart case worker, this afternoon!

I’d better get a move on, hadn’t I … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th August, 2021

5th August, 2021.

Yep: it’s official.

I’m up early, today.

Mostly?

Because I’m looking after my nephew, Jude, today.

That should be fun …

~≈👦🏼≈~

JUST as a thought … ?

You’ve heard of earworms, yes?

It’s a song, playing it’s way through your head.

I don’t have one.

No: I’ve got the word popty ping, the alleged Welsh word for microwave, floating through my head.

Why?

I have no idea!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th August, 2020

5th August, 2020.

Right …

I’ve officially spent a lot of time on the phone, over the past couple of days.

Yesterday?

I had a phone call from a temp agency: who wanted to keep my CV on file, in case they found anything.

I spent a lot of time on the phone, yesterday morning … ?   On the phone to the Work and Health programme I’ve been signed up to: discussing all sorts of things.

Including the possibility of getting funding for a computer literacy course.

Yes, I’m reasonably computer literate: but it would be nice to have recent paperwork that says so.

At ANY rate?   That funding could be expensive.

It would need to cover the cost of the course.

The nearest one is, unfortunately, a remote one.   Which leads to issues.

I’d possibly need a copy of Microsoft Office: not something I want, but it is the standard people expect you to be familiar with.

Both the Mac and Windows version of the suite?   Costs roughly £120.   That’s about €130, or $160.

However, whilst the Windows version of MS Office is four gigabytes in size — about the size of a film on a DVD — the Mac version is ten gigabytes.

Twice the size of the Windows version.

As I told my case worker, yesterday?   That’s not something I have drive space for.

As I also told him?   The only way I’d be able get a copy of MS Office, is if someone bought my a Windows based laptop, with a copy of the blessed suite included.

Whether that happens … ?   Is a whole other issue.

~≈Í≈~

Monday, on the other hand, was a different kettle of fish.

I had to phone BT, to arranged my landline/internet contract.

I finally came away with a deal that isn’t perfect — it basically involves a pay as you go landline — but that is a lot better than what I’ve got.

The internet connection will cost roughly £15 less than what I’m paying now: which can be spent on food.

It also involves a new payment card.

The BIG drawback … ?   Was the amount of time I actually waited for the phone to be answered.

I phoned, initially, at 10:30 … and waited for roughly thirty minutes before I got answered.

I sorted out the basics of a new deal: then got told I’d be put through to the sales team, to finalise it.

Then got cut off.

So I rang back … and waited for forty-five minutes, forty-five whole, frustrating, damn minutes, listening to soothing — ha! — music before I got thought to someone who could put me through to the sales team.

Who, once they’d finished with me, said I’d need to talk to someone else, to actually finalise the deal: before I got cut off … again …

It didn’t take long to get back in touch with them.

But, ye gods

I can see why people have heart attacks on the phone!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th August, 2018

5th August, 2018.

Yep: my innards played up, yesterday.

To the point where I had to take the day off: barely able to stand up.

I think my innards are still iffy: but they’re better than they were.

I’ll tell you what, though.

It’s not good.

~≈§≈~

On the upside … ?

I’ve got the radio on.   Or, at least, have Radio Four playing on my TV.

Where the news has just announced that Sir Patrick Stewart is to reprise his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

This could be interesting.

Especially if we get to see Worf in the new design of Klingon make-up.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-8-2017

Right, here we go …

I’ve got a long weekend ahead!

Officially?

I’m on a 12-10, today, and a 10-5, tomorrow.

You can bet what-ever body-part you have spare?

That I’m not going to a lot of sleep!

~≈Á≈~

Hmmm …

I tend to take an interest in technology news.

But am very aware that security researcher, Marcus Hutchins, has been arrested: on charges of making and distributing malicious software.

Whilst at the Def Con security conference.

Apparently, he’s admitted that he’s created software capable of stealing bank account details.

~≈Á≈~

There’s possibly a lot to say, there.

From the little I know?   From the little I know, most cyber-security researchers spend time in some very strange places: in order to find out how malicious hackers work.

And that they ALSO write malicious software: they kind of have to, to understand how it works, and used.

Personally?

I’m thinking the USA has made one heck of a mistake,

Especially as Hutchins is the man who single-handedly stopped the WannCry ransomware.

Go figure!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-8-2016

Boy, but that was a comparatively late night.

Believe it or not?

Writing a Teaser: for next week.

Very specifically, for International Left-handers Day.

It’s something of a tradition for me: as I’m left-handed, myself.

Personally?

I’m looking forward to inflicting it on people.

JUST to see how well it does.

All that, aside, though?

I always, personally think the International Left-handers Day is important … because?

Well, because, if we, as people, are to say that equality of opportunity is a good thing — equality between ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations — we have to start with the little things.

It’s a little thing …

But, speaking as a lefty?   It need addressing.
