Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th January 2026.

26th January, 2026.

Right … I’m officially up, about … and will be off to my weight management class, later on.

Hopefully?

I will have lost a little weight: losing a kilo, last week, has made me optimistic.

Here’s hoping!

~≈⚖️≈~

I’m on Facebook: amongst others.

But?

Facebook — and YouTube — are where I really notice adverts.

Including ones for Oh My Gloss hair serum.

Why I’m getting them?

I don’t know.

I’m going bald: so I’m not exactly one of the target audience.

But what gets me?

Is that the adverts I get emphasise the “genuine, Australian ingredients”: without getting more specific about what the ingredients are.

I’m assuming nothing.

But?

I’m wondering if those ingredients include dead wombat, squashed kangaroo, or koala parts.

You have to ask, don’t you … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-1-2025 — Australia Day.

26th January, 2025: Australia Day.

Hmmm …

It’s Sunday … and … ?

Frankly, I’m expecting it to be a quiet day.

Well, unless I get a sudden attack of visitors!

At any rate … ?

I’m not expecting mush to happen: bar finishing off a film review.

I caught Star Trek: Section 31, last night.

And it’s a lot of fun!

~≈🖖≈~

Hmmm … again …

It looks like Sony — who did a lot of the work to develop the concept — are to stop producing recordable Blu-ray discs.

I don’t use many of them, myself.

But … ?

I’m a little concerned about the potential knock-on effects: less films, games and TV shows being published to physical media.

That’s a concern because of the licensing situation.

Basically?

You buy a film on bluray — I’ve got a copy of the original Bladerunner coming, for example — and it’s yours for the life of that disc.

However long that is: yes, that life is limited, but I’ve had CDs for some twenty/thirty years that are still as useable as when I first bought them.

They last.

They’re yours.

If you ‘buy’ a digital copy from a streaming service?

It’s yours: but for the time the streaming service has licensed it*.

You could buy a film from Amazon Prime, today: and ‘own’ it for life … until Amazon takes it down from their service, tomorrow morning …

When their license runs out.

Sony stopping production of recordable Blu-ray discs … ?

Only encourages this.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th January 2024.

26th January, 2024.

Yay!   It’s Friday!

Which is possibly not a reason for me to get excited!

It is, after all, just another day!

One that doesn’t have that much in the way of plans, I should add.

I’m sure I’ll find something to do.

~≈Œ≈~

I could, for example, watch a movie: or possibly start a series.

Ones I’ve been planning on watching — then reviewing — for a while.

And that now seem vaguely topical.

Especially in light of the fact that, recently, General Sir Patrick Sanders — the head of the UK’s army — has said that the country needs what he calls a ‘citizen’s army’: a group of people willing to join, and be trained, in case of a war.

I have to admit, that gives me a few ideas about films: Dad’s Army might be one idea.

The Day After, another.

I’m also wondering something else.

Is Sir Patrick making a suggestion he feels will help in a looming war?

Or something he hopes will boost Army funding.

I can only hope it’s the latter option.

~≈Œ≈~

As another point in the news?

I’m diabetic, over-weight, and lord knows what else.

And am very aware that two injectable drugs — Ozempic, and Trulicity — are very helpful: both in managing my condition, and managing my weight.

Late last year?

Saw the start of Ozempic shortages.

Lots of people who are overweight — and who could manage their weight with lifestyle changes — started getting private prescriptions for the drug: forcing those of us with diabetes to look elsewhere.

I — and many others, it seems — switch to Trulicity.

Which — in my experience — is less helpful at weight management, however good it is at managing my blood sugars.

According to this article?

People with a priority clinical need are missing out: as there’s still a shortage of Ozempic … and, more recently, of Trulicity.

I’m wondering what can be done.

I suspect drug companies boosting their outputs could help: but suspect they won’t, in order to boost their prices.

I also suspect legislation may help.

Or, at least, a legislated list: of drugs that can only be prescribed by an NHS doctor*.

Putting drugs needed by those with serious conditions — rather than by those with conditions manageable by easier means — could be useful.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th January 2023.

26th January, 2023.

Phew!

No, really, phew!

I managed to get in touch with my work coach, my Job Centre case worker.

My next meeting’s scheduled for 3rd February: and was pencilled in for 13:30.

Which was causing problems.

I’m due a repairman that day: between 8am and 1pm.

So I wanted to re-arrange my Job Centre meeting: knowing my luck, the repair man would turn up at 12:55, and leave me no time to get to the job centre!

So?

As I hadn’t had a reply from my case worker?

I headed to town: concerned that — as I’d left thing a little late — I would get to the office at lunch time, when there’d ONLY be one person manning the front desk.

When — in other words — my case worker was out to lunch!

I got lucky.

As, when I was heading for the office … I bumped into my case worker, as they were heading for lunch!

And was able to let them know I need the appointment changed: even if by only an hour.

It’s now on 3rd February … at 15:25.

Phew!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-1-2022: Uganda

26th January, 2022.

Right …

It’s a Wednesday: with — as you might have guessed — nothing to do.

Well … bar my knee exercises, this morning.

And possibly a little shopping: I’m thinking a chilli might just be the thing.

Shoving mince, red onions, peppers, kidney beans, chopped tomatoes, mushrooms, chilli peppers, and possibly some celery and carrots, into a lot of stock will give me something to do.

Assuming I’ve got some rice to go with it!

We’ll see.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-1-2021: Michigan

26th January, 2021.

Right …

I’ve got — in theory — a dentist check up, this afternoon.

Although, given the last one was re-arranged for today … ?

And that I’ve not heard whether it’s going ahead … ?

I’m not sure if it’s on, or not!

Here’s hoping.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-1-2020: World Customs Day.

26th January, 2020.

Right …

I think I can say I’ve done a lot of culling: on my YouTube channel.

Before you start accusing me of slaughtering baby seals?

I mean that I’ve managed to delete a hell of a lot videos from my YouTube channel: as I believe those are the one’s causing the issues.

That — unfortunately — also includes a few of the earlier Teaser videos: where copyrighted content’s been involved.

We’re going to have to see if that helps …

King of Thieves: A Review

26th January, 2019.

Right …

as much as I like the current version of iMovie … ?

And Mojave … ?

I think I’m in a bind …

As it’s taken about ten minutes to render the video in that intro.

I’m not exactly a happy bunny.

After all, that’s a lot of time … when you consider that iMovie had been doing those renders in about half that time.

At most.

This possibly means I need radical action, here.

Switching on my old Mac, and seeing what I can do.

At any rate … ?

That’s something I’ll have to concentrate on, another time.

Whilst I wait for any iMovie or Mojave updates.

~≈§≈~

At ANY rate … ?

At any rate, it’s a quiet Saturday night.

And … ?

Well, I’m tempted to do several things … several sweaty things … several sweaty things that, unfortunately, involved either money or company …

A movie it is, then … !

And, yes: I had just enough cash in my iTunes account to get …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-1-2019: Uganda

26th January, 2019.

Hmmm …

I have to admit, I do like my Apple products.

Really.

I’ve been quite the loyal one for some eighteen or so years.

Right at the moment, though, I have to admit to being one that’s mildly annoyed.

I’ve installed a recent set of updates: serious, security, ones that I discuss here.

The downside to those updates … ?

Simply put?

Is that, since installing those updates, my copy of iMovie is behaving distinctly badly: causing system hangs that only seem to clear up, if I force a restart, switching my machine on and off again.

Frankly?

As someone who relies on that app, I’m not exactly what you call happy.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th January, 2018

26th January, 2018.

Yes …

Surgery …

I had a GP’s appointment, yesterday: mostly to get the result of  some blood tests.

Those are fine …

No, let me rephrase that.

The results on the thyroid activity showed I needed to increase the dosage of Levothyroxine, the medication that helps me deal with my under active thyroid.

The others results … ?   For the diabetes and a few other bits?

Were thankfully clear.

However … ?

Well …

Let’s face facts, as a result discussion that followed?   My GP’s decided to refer me to both a local chest unit, to deal with chest pains …

And for bariatric surgery, as I’m having serious trouble, losing weight.

Yep …

Worryingly desperate times, aren’t they … ?

Mr Robot — Series 1: Episode 2 — eps1.1_ones-and-zer0es.mpeg

26th January, 2017.

You know, you can TELL when you’re feeling tired, can’t you?

As I write?   As I write, it’s twenty past nine on a Thursday evening: and I’m yawning my head off.

Metaphorically, obviously!

I just thought I should share that with you.

If my words seem a little underwhelmed … ?

I give you tiredness as a result!

Well …

That … and the cold weather: I’d REALLY rather be in bed.

~≈§≈~

But, frankly?

Well, frankly, I wanted something to go on record, before I do hit the sack.

Yes …

You’ve got it.

I’ve seen episode two of the first series of Mr Robot: and wanted you to know about it.

~≈§≈~

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-1-2017

Hmmm …

I think that’s something I’m going to have to ask about, at the next staff briefing.

I’m working at a call centre in Chelmsford: that specialises in handling call for social landlords: arranging the various out-of-hours, emergency repairs.

We also field calls for the Greater London Authority.

Usually we get members of the public phoning in: wanting to know what the Mayor’s doing about littering in Hammersmith, for example.   We also get members of the press phoning: wanting statements from from the Mayor, or the Assembly, about whatever subject happens to be newsworthy.

The former, we ask to phone back in the morning.   The reporters get their details taken: and passed on to the on-call member of the GLA press team.

Last night, I got an unusual one: a call from the Ministry of Employment, wanting to set up a phone call with the Mayor.

Not something I’ve handled, before, until last night.

And one I had to improvise about.   Basically, by getting the chap to phone back in the morning.

I think, though, I want to raise it at the next staff briefing.

I think that sort of call will be rare.   But might well be something we need to have a process for.

The Daily Teaser — 26-1-2016

You know, you can tell it’s a Tuesday, can’t you?

At least, I can: I only have to look at the date on my computer screen, to see the calendar.

The other reason I know … ?   Is that yesterday was Monday.

Which means I’ve got last’s episode of Gotham on.

Complete with Cameron Monaghan doing his thing as Jerome …

Riveting stuff … !
