Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-11-2025 — World Television Day

21st November, 2025: World Television Day.

It has to be said: I’m feeling quiet …

Which is odd for me.

Or possibly not: given recent news.

With that said … ?

Gill Veail — Trevor’s sister — has asked me to thank everyone that’s passed on their condolences, after his recent death.

Thank you: you know who you are.

~≈💐≈~

It’s officially official: I have the sun in my eyes.

Which is what happens on a sunny day, when you buy cheap blinds!

Or, at least, have cheap blinds … on a sunny day.

Either way … ?

I can’t complain too much.

Yes, it’s a cold day … but yes, it’s also payday.

Which means I can do something positive.

Like shop … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-11-2024 — World Television Day

21st November, 2024: World Television Day.

I think we can safely say I have a new Mac.

“I have a new Mac”.

And that I set it up, yesterday: with about the expected amount of swearing!

Pairing my Android phone with the new machine involved searching through System Settings, to change two different Bluetooth settings.

Copying my Photos and iMovie library to the new machine was simple: although getting my AppleTV 4K to recognise that Home Sharing was on, and my media library was over here … involved changing the name of my media library.

Oh, and the power button … ?

Is in the bottom left hand corner to the machine.

Literally!

As for the new keyboard?

The old keyboard has a FN key in the upper left hand side, and an eject button.

The new one, by contrast?

Has a finger-print key instead of the eject button, and moves the FN key to the bottom left.

The new one has a fingerprint sensor, instead of the Eject button.

And puts the FN button in the bottom left hand corner.

That’s … well, as wonderfully tactile as this new keyboard feels — you can lock your screen by pressing the fingerprint button, the FN button calls up the character viewer, the button marked ‘What’s This’ doesn’t do much beyond call up context menus— that does mean re-learning a few keyboard shortcuts.

It’s going to take a while to get used to it!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-11-2023 — The Sun Always Shines On TV.

21st November, 2023: The Sun Always Shines On TV.

Right …

It’s officially official: I’ve had my diabetic retinopathy check.

And will be getting a letter about the results, soon.

By post.

I may possibly need to resit the test: as the cataract in my left eye was making the photo — specifically of my left eye — difficult.

We’re going to have to see.

So to speak!

Doctor Who — The Abominable Snowmen — Episode 3 — A Review

21st November, 2022.

Right … it’s officially not Friday.

You knew that.

It’s officially Monday.

Or possibly Tuesday, by the time you read this.

In case you didn’t know?

I watch TV shows: and — for some — will write about what I’ve seen, and have a video and written review up, the next night.

The past few Fridays?   Have seen me watching the first series of Star Trek Strange New Worlds.

Whilst the past two Mondays?   Have seen me watching classic Dr Who story, The Abominable Snowmen.

As it’s Monday?

And once I’ve had something to eat … ?

I’ll be watching episode three of the serial: and have my written and video reviews up, late tomorrow night.

I hope you’d care to watch …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-11-2022 — Björk.

21st November, 2022: Björk … !

Right … it’s officially that time of fortnight, again!

I’ve got to go an meet my Job Centre Case worker, today.

One thing I need to tell him?

Is that Restart, the work scene I’m one, haven’t agree to get a passport for: my Restart worker’s just going to talk to her managers.

We’ll have to see what happens there, I think.

~≈fi≈~

I’ve got type two diabetes: in case you couldn’t tell.

So I keep my eyes on any news about it, and type one.

Recently?

It seems that a new medication for type one diabetes has been approved for use in the US.

One that — if I’ve understood the news report correctly — helps stops a body’s immune system attacking the pancreas: boosting the body’s production of insulin* in the process.

It sounds like it could be very use for those who have the condition.

Can it be used for type two?

I don’t know: but suspect not.

If I’ve understood things correctly, the two conditions are very different to each other: and to gestational diabetes.

So I’d not be surprised if it can’t.

But?   Hopefully, there’s something equally radical around the corner for us.

Doctor Who — Flux Series 13: Chapter 4 — Village of the Angels — A Review

21st November, 2021.

Right at the moment … ?

I’ve got dinner on the go.

Whilst — would you believe — the BBC’s Countryfile show is on.

John Craven discussing vegetables is not my usual thing.

You can tell that I’m bored in the run up to tonight’s episode of Dr Who: Village of the Angels.

Once I’ve got through dinner, washing up, tea, John Craven talking about cobnuts, I’ll be watching the thing: and letting you know what I think.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-11-2021: North Carolina

21st November, 2021.

It’s officially Sunday.

And frankly?

I’m expecting it to be quiet.

Well … quiet-ish.

I’m expecting a relative feeding frenzy, once I’ve finished a video review of tonight’s episode of Dr Who.

They have been doing rather well!

~≈fl≈~

Oh, JUST in case anyone’s wondering … ?

I managed to pick up some kidney beans, and some chopped tomatoes: and made a BIG pot of chilli con carne.

I’m just wondering, though …

Do you think five chilli peppers was enough … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st November, 2020.

21st November, 2020.

Hmmm …

I had a day, yesterday: chasing up laptops with my landlords.

Apparently?   Parcelforce tried delivering on Thursday: at 14:45.

I know I didn’t hear them ring.

As a result?   The laptop’s at the post office.

I’m going to try and pick it up, today: from the Royal Mail’s collection office in Saint Thomas’ Road.

Assuming, of course, that it’s open by the time I get there: I’m going into town to have a ’Flu jab.

The last time I went to the place on a Saturday?   It was only open from 7am to 9am.

Heigh-ho.

~≈¥≈~

Just as a quick minor point?

Thus far, I’m happy with macOS Big Sur.

I’ve got a couple of relatively minor quibbles.

The one that’s staring me in the face?

Is simply that there’s no icon for blu-ray discs.

Which makes finding the Blu-ray Disc I’ve currently got, tricky.

The Man in the High Castle — Series 4 Episodes 2: Every Door Out… — A Review

21st November, 2019

Hmmm …

I have to admit, I’m …

Well, thinking all sorts of things.

I notice — for example — that Jeremy Corbyn’s announced that — should Labour get into government — they will scrap the Universal Credit benefit I’m on.

I’m thinking I couldn’t vote for them, giving that.

Partly?   Because they haven’t said what they’ll replace it with.

And partly because the change from Universal Credit to its replacement will come with the same sort of delays that happened with the change from Job Seeker’s Allowance to Universal Credit.

And from the old Unemployment Benefit to Jobseekers Allowance.

All of which saw delayed payments: at least to me.

And, I’m assuming, to others.

I’m ALSO very aware the Greens are planning what they call a Universal Basic Income of some £89 a week.

One that seemingly doesn’t include housing costs.

As someone planning to vote Green in this election … ?

That’s a concern … and also why I contacted the local Green candidate.

I’ll hear back from them, another time: but I’m …

Well …

Concerned …

~≈¥≈~

At any rate … ?

It’s a Thursday …

A Thursday where, frankly?

I felt I could go another episode of the fourth season of The Man in the High Castle.

I’m on the second episode …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st November, 2019

21st November, 2019.

It’s got be said, I’m actually up early, today.

I’ve a meeting at the new and improved Job Centre.

What’s called a Commitments Review meeting.

In other words, one where my work coach and I go over what I need to do, in order to keep claiming money.

It should go well.

Although, as ever?   There’s things I want to chew over.

The last time I had an extended period of joblessness, I ended up having to sign on for the privately run Work Program.

Something that the then government was heavily promoting as a jobhunting cure-all … and something that, as it turned out, was about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Actually … ?   Less useful.   You could eat the teapot.

So … ?

I just want to find out what I could be facing …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st November, 2017

Blimey, wonders will never stop.

Wonders …

Or possibly revelations.

You’ll know, of course, that both Hollywood and Westminster have seen allegations of various shades of sexual misconduct.

Something that — as far as I knew — hadn’t hit the technology world.

Until I saw the news — on the BBC’s news site — that hacking legend, and original phone phreak, John Draper — better known as Captain Crunch  — has been accused by several people: of unwanted sexual behaviours.

The man’s role in creating the Blue Box, that let you make free phone calls?

Made him a legend.

But finding Draper’s involved in this sort of behaviour?

Will tarnish that reputation.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21-11-2016

Ye, gods, I’m am officially tired … !

No, really … !

I managed to get home, last night, at about the usual sort of time.

And got to bed, at around the usual sort of time.

Frankly?

I’m sort of happy I’m not at work until later.

I might just be able to sneak in an afternoon nap …
