23rd June, 2026: the Referendum.

Right … it’s the anniversary of a well known referendum.

One I mentioned, here, and here.

I sound more undecided than I actually was: eventually voting Remain, as I felt — and still feel — my nephew, Jude, should be able to freely move around the Schengen Area.

Unfortunately?

Others felt differently.

The vote to Leave?

Was and is the biggest mistake of the UK’s life.

On a possibly happier front?

I notice, from reading those old posts?

That it was raining on the morning of 23rd June, 2016.

It was raining, again, this morning: thunder storming, in fact.

Frankly?

I think it was purely co-incidental.

The UK’s only got so many weather patterns.

Which isn’t something I was expecting first thing on a Monday morning.

Not when I was going to head out early for my weight management class!

Talking of weight management?

It’s seems GPs can now prescribe Mounjaro as a weight loss jab: as well as for diabetes, and weigh loss.

That’s a good thing: if it leads to lowered prices for people getting it privately.

And doesn’t lead to a shortage!

Right … I have issues!

I’ve got a new sharps bin: for my new medications.

It’s a bucket sized one.

With a sliding trapdoor that you open, when you need to put something in.

I opened it, when I got it home: to see how it worked.

Then closed it.

Not realising that you could only open the thing, once.

It’s a safety feature.

I’m going to have to get another one: due to my own ignorance, I’ve now got one I can’t use!

I’m up early!

As I’ve got a diabetic foot check at my GP’s.

That means I can put in a request for another one, at the same time.

An old friend told me — a few days ago — that there’s a new comic shop opening in Brentwood.

It’s a branch of Romford’s Comic Book Heroes: in Moore’s Place, around the corner from Saint Thomas’ Church.

They open on Sunday, 25th June, this year*.

If you want to buy your favourite blogger, stuff, you’d be supporting a local business … !

Yes: it’s Thursday.

Busy Day, Pt 2,  in other words.

Yesterday?   I was due a locksmith: who eventually turned up a lot earlier than I was expecting.

Which was unexpected: but nice.

Going by what the locksmith told me?

The rack of letterboxes are no longer made.

So replacing the things would be difficult.

Today, on the other hand?

I’ve got a plumber coming down: in theory, to unblock the drain of my kitchen sink.

Which?   Doesn’t actually seem to be blocked: but was getting upsurging waste water, a couple of weeks ago.

In May.

Upsurging water, with suspicious brown bits, in May.

Today’s the earliest they could send someone out.

You couldn’t make it up, could you?

One thing I know isn’t made up?

Is this news piece from The Register: a piece that tells us Microsoft is blocking access the site that lets customers in Russia download copies of Windows.

After stopping sales of the operating system in the country, in March.

I’m assuming that’s a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

I think that’s going to have consequences.

It’ll hit Microsoft’s sales.

Another possible consequence?   ReactOS — an open source clone of Windows — has long been trying to interest the Russian government.

Russia might — might — start looking at that, again: as a possible replacement for Windows*.

Rolling a new operating system out, over a whole country, could be difficult.

It’s not just home users like you or me that would need to replace our systems: it’s all those government departments, as well.

At any rate?   If Microsoft’s blockade goes on for any length of time?

Russia may might have to look at large scale alternatives!

I’m off to hospital for a second colonoscopy.

Frankly?

I’m not looking forward to it.

Especially after having to fast, and having the extremely powerful laxative that goes with it.

But … ?

The sooner it’s done, the better.

Yep: it’s officially the case.

I have an interview, today: in Romford.

I’m … nervous, as ever.

And, frankly, right at the moment?   I’d rather not go.

That’s my self confidence for you …

You’ll possibly have realised — over the years — that I’m something of a Mac fan: and one that’s been mildly critical of macOS Catalina.

There’s possible improvements coming: possible improvements.

As, at this year’s WWDC conference, Apple have announced the autumn release of macOS 11 Big Sur.

According to Wikipedia?   Should work on my machine.

Whether it’s an improvement … ?

Only time will tell.

You know, I has very little in the way of cash, at the moment.

Very little.

So, when I spend some?

I expect the goods to work, to be of the best quality for the price … and to turn up on time.

I was due a pair of jogging bottoms, yesterday.

By 8.

Did they turn up?

Did they, heck … !

One thing I did hear, yesterday?

Was an article on the Today programme, that introduced us to a champ called Andrew Ashe.

Mr Ashe’s company has won a prestigious prize for for a tablet, running open source software, that kids with little computer literacy could play with.

And learn with.

As I understood it from that piece?

They went with the open source, independent, operating system: as they didn’t want those kids habits being tracked by the likes of Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and whoever else.

Good for them!

Ye gods, but I’m not well … !

OK, I’m not seriously badly off.

Things could be seriously worse.

But, right now?

I’m felling rather grotty: after my IBS flared up, at work.

Cramps, trots, slightly pained expressed, what have you … 

All that … 

All that … combined with a lack of sleep … ?

Well, I’m not having a good time.

Today … 

It’s raining.

It’s raining, on the morning after some of rather BIG thunderstorms.

It’s also raining — here in the south-east of the UK — on the morning of the vote.

The vote.

The vote on whether Britain’s should remain a member of the European Union.

Quite frankly?

I’m still fairly undecided.

On the one hand?   I know voting Leave will annoy the hell out of Brentwood’s local MP, Eric Pickles.

Annoying a Tory?   The mildly rebellious teenager in me would be happily pleased to do so.

On the other hand … ?

On the other hand, I’m tempted to vote remain: after the death of MP, Jo Cox,

I know the case is still sub-judice. 

But I get the impression — from the media coverage of her death, at the time of her death — that her killer murdered her, in part, because she’d help many refugees.

And partly because she’d been a member of the Remain campaign,

Personally?   My emotional instinct is to vote leave: not because the Leave campaign is making an issue of controlling migration, but because Britain gains more sovereignty as a result.

But I’m ALSO sympathetic to the family of Jo Cox.

And think if her murderer killed, in part, in support of Leave?

I think voting Remain is a good way of showing my sympathies.
