Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th June 2026

14th June, 2026.

Right …

I’ve had ongoing discussions with BT: about upgrading my internet connection.

Originally?

I’d put in a request on 28th May, when the company reminded me I was up for renewal.

Only to be told the upgrade was cancelled … as they thought I lived next door … !

It’s taken approximately two and a half weeks, and a lot of calls, for them to correct the mistake — if that’s the right word — upgrade the information on the systems, and name a date for the upgrade.

This coming Thursday, between 13·00 and 16·00 in the afternoon.

Here’s hoping the promised speeds are worth the ƒ®ç∞ïng wait … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th June, 2025

14th June, 2025.

It’s got to be said: I’ve had a late — ish — start!

For various reasons!

So if this post goes up late?

I have an excuse.

Just not one I’m going to admit to … !

~≈🕙≈~

Oh, one thing I DO know … ?

Is that I caught a movie called Sinners, last night.

I’ll have my review up, later.

But, just in case you’re interested?

Here’s the trailer:

~≈🧛≈~

Ukraine … ?

Is a mess: there’s still a war on, and Russian troops on the ground.

But … ?

Israel and Iran are throwing missiles at each other.

I’m hoping they’ll have enough sense to negotiate some sort of deal.

My personal worry?

Is that they will escalate things.

Israel has nuclear weapons … and Iran is accused of having them.

Frankly?

I’d hate to see those used.

We know what can happen when they are …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-6-2024 — Che.

14th June, 2024: Che.

Right … it’s Friday.

And I’ve got most of the medications I need.

I got ’em, yesterday.

But … ?

There’s always something, isn’t there?

It turns out that the Trulicity I was using … isn’t available.

From anywhere in town.

Apparently?

There’s manufacturing issues affecting it, and the alternatives.

Including Semaglutide, the wonder drug that’s the active ingredient in things like Ozempic and Wegovy.

Which means … ?

Right now, I’ve used my last Trulicity pen, this morning.

Frankly, until I have my next diabetic review — on Tuesday — I have no idea what to do … !

Bar sending an email!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th June, 2023.

14th June, 2023.

Yes: it’s officially official.

My hair’s a mess.

And I managed to get safely back from Basildon: after a hospital appointment.

Yes: I’ve had a US Ankle and Branchial Index.

A test where the blood pressure in my arms and ankles is check: then I walk on a treadmill.

Then the blood pressure is checked again.

I’m hoping it went well: I’ll find out when my GP gets the report!

~≈🩸≈~

I had the rest of the day, to myself: once I’d got back from Basildon.

And … ?

Managed to finish my written and video reviews of “The Convert”, the third episode of The Mandalorian’s third series.

Dogfights, political intrigue and questing knights do make for an interesting episode.

Spider-Man: No Way Home — A Review

13th June, 2022.

Right, I’ve a confession to make.

When I recorded that intro video, and started writing this post … ?

I had no idea what I was going to watch.

I had a couple of films in mind: but settled on nothing.

Until I looked over what I had in my collection.

You can possibly tell what I went for, can’t you?

Yes: I watched Spider-Man: No Way Home.

I’ve seen a very impressive film.

I’m going to tell you more, tomorrow night.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-6-2022 — World Blood Donor Day

14th June, 2022.

Right … finally I think I have a direction to go in.

You’ll remember I’m trying to get extra financial help: and had the Mandatory Reconsideration — after a Work Capacity Assessment — turned down.

I’m trying to find out how to appeal that: at a tribunal.

After a phone call, yesterday?   And, as it turns out, reading the wrong bit of a letter?!

It seems I have to apply online.

It looks like I’m going to be staring at a screen, today!

~≈Â≈~

Which I sort of figured out.

I know for a fact I’m getting my next call from the Job Centre, today: at 10:30.

We’ll have to see what my case worker says about the appeal.

~≈Â≈~

It seems Google have software.

We all knew that, didn’t we?

More specifically?   They’re the company behind the Language Model for Dialogue Applications, or LAMDA.

It’s supposed to be able to hold conversations: much better ones than Siri or Alexa.

Yesterday, news broke.

According to Google engineer, Blake Lemoine, the thing’s sentient.

Self aware, in other words.

Alive, if want to put it that way.

I honestly couldn’t tell you if it is, or isn’t.

But if it is?   Alive, self aware, capable of interacting with the world, and with people?

Then there’s an old line from William Gibson’s Neuromancer that springs to mind*.

“… it ain’t no way human …”

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-6-2021: The First Flag

14th June, 2021.

Yes!   I’m expecting a phone call!

Aren’t we always, though?

The one I’m expecting, thought, is about the recent blood tests I’ve had: ones monitoring my diabetes.

Hopefully?

My blood sugar levels will have gone down.

Now …

Can someone remind me to look up a diabetic eye check?

I think I’m due one …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th June, 2020.

14th June, 2020.

Right …

Blogger hasn’t let me upload the intro directly to today’s post …

So I’ve just spent five minutes uploading it to YouTube, so I can make use of the embed code.

Happy, moi?

Non!

~≈¥≈~

At ANY rate … ?

I was going to tell you about the riots last night, in London: led by far-right activist determined to ‘protect statues,’ in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests.

Those?   Recent Black Lives Matter protest have been relatively peaceful.

Frankly?   I think last night’s disturbances were motivated by racism … no, scrub that, know they were motivated by racism.

Especially as I’ve seen posts from far-right activist, Stephen Yaxley-Lennon — the coward who hides behind the name Tommy Robinson — float across my Facebook timeline.

The person who reposted that got de-friended and blocked.

I’m not having idiots* like Yaxley Lennon floating across my timeline.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th June, 2019

14th June, 2019.

Yes: it’s official.

I’ve been watching Game of Thrones, series eight.

The series isn’t something I’ve reviewed: plenty of others have done that.

But I did manage to watch episode 3, last night: The Long Night.

The one people complained was too dark?   At least, badly lit?

Yeah, that one.

I can see what they mean: it’s decidedly … you know … arty … !

I’ll tell you something else, too.

It don’t half go on!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4th June, 2019

4th June, 2019.

Yes: it’s official.

I’ve done the test.

Basically?

I had to pick up a piece of kick from Basildon Hospital: a thing called an oximeter, if I’ve got the name right.

You have to wrap the watch like thing around your wrist overnight, whilst wearing the attached thimble on your finger.

The idea is to check your blood oxygen levels, over night.

Hopefully?

I hope I’ve carried it out, correctly.

I’d hate to have to do it again …

As I’d have to go back to Basildon, twice …

Again!

~≈§≈~

Oh, just as a QUICK thought?

I’ve just seen the stats for the new MacPro.

Twenty-eight cores?

Wheels?

Ye GODS, I want one!

Anyone got several thousand pounds spare?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th June, 2018

14th June, 2018.

No, really …

I’ve got something serious for you.

That’s if you don’t mind me burbling on about my street?

Here …

That video’s the result of many things.

Partly?   It’s a response to the Grenfell Tower fire: today’s the first Anniversary, so you know.

But ALSO … ?

If you don’t mind me being blunt, it’s ALSO a response to the area I’m in.

I live in Brentwood: near the station.

My particular part of the area has — as I feel the video shows— always been heavily congested: with parked cars impeding any emergency vehicle access.

That’s something that’s been concerning me for the decade I’ve lived here.

And something — if memory serves — that also affected emergency vehicle access around Grenfell Tower, this time last year.

The congestion is something I thought — initially — wouldn’t last long.   The other end of Rollason Way was still a building site, when I moved in.

How long, I asked myself, would it stay a building site?

About three years, as it turns out.

Now … ?   The congestion’s being caused — mostly — by parked cars and delivery vans …

And the building work around the corner.

The more things change …

~≈§≈~

That’s ONE thing.

The other?

We have what’s called a ‘stay put’ policy in place.

In other words?   In other words, if a fire breaks out in one of the flats on Rollason Way, other people are supposed to stay in theirs.

The compartmentalisation in these buildings is supposed to protect us.

One thing I DO know?   Is that the Grenfell Tower enquiry has highlighted the fact that — when it was refurbished a few years ago — the various works done affected this compartmentalisation: meaning the fire spread faster.

The blocks, here, haven’t been refurbished: they’s still relatively new.

But?

That was enough for me to contact my landlord: to see if the policy was to be reviewed.

I’ve not heard back.

Oh, I’ll contact my landlords.

And possibly the fire brigade.

But it is rather worrying …

~≈§≈~

As is one final thing.

RIGHT now, the BBC are reporting a fire in a block of flats in Lewisham.

One that sounds like it could’ve been worse.

The report …

Highlights the fact the alarms hadn’t gone off.

Don’t even get me started …

We don’t have communal fire alarms …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-6-2016

Right …

I’m up, comparatively early: at least … comparatively early for me …

Frankly?

I’m starting work, today, at 10: so wanted to be up early to get everything I need to do, done.

And right at the moment?   I’m regretting the fact that I watched two more episodes of The Strain, last night.

Even though they were two damn good episodes!

At any rate?

At any rate, I’m tired …

But at least wearing my new glasses … !

Gran Torino: NICE … !

14th June, 2013

You know, I have to say, I do know how to procrastinate, sometimes, when it comes to a write up.

Really … !

Not by much, though.   After all, it’s only last night I saw the movie I wanted to talk about.

But I have to admit: apart from heading up to the my GPs to pick up a prescription, I have been faffing about, quite a bit … !

At any rate … ?

At ANY rate, I managed to catch a film last night: something I’d had in my collection for some time: but never actually got around to watching.

The 22008, Clint Eastwood directed and produced film, Gran Torino …
