25th September, 2025: Down in the Park.

There are times when I love myself.

Which is always a suspicious phrase, I think: very ambiguous, I think!

There’s times when I don’t love myself.

Or, at least, hate something I’ve seen.

I caught the last episode of Alien: Earth, last night: an episode called “The Real Monsters”.

It has a deeply ambiguous ending: one I found frustrating, as it offered no clear resolution.

With no second season confirmed?

It’s not a note I was expecting to finish on.

Sometimes … ?

I hate it when the situation is awkward.

I hate when circumstances force me to get up early.

Like today.

My Job Centre case worker’s decided I should attend a mentoring event, today: one that starts at ten in the morning.

So that means I’m up early to get this post done.

It’s a horrible time to be awake, I know that!

Hmmm … 

Every so often, I’ll order something from Amazon.

Usually on payday: and usually for stuff that’s both cheap, and very useful.

One of the most recent ones?

Was supposed to be delivered by a third party delivery firm called Evri, yesterday.

By ten pm.

It hasn’t.

It’s been delayed: and will now be delivered by the 26th, at the earliest.

I had to pay extra for that delivery.

So, understandably?

I’m not happy.

I think I’m going to be busy, today.

I’ve my weight management program, this morning, some printing and posting to do, lunchtime … 

And my nephew, this afternoon.

‘Busy,’ possibly doesn’t even start … !

Yes: I’ve now had … an eye test!

Or, at least, I had one, yesterday.

Which — between one thing and another? — took a lot longer than I expected.

And included a (paid for) test: one my opticians cal an OCT, or Optical Coherence Tomography, test.

Apparently, it’s supposed to help spot problems, sooner.

Apart from the length of time?

My only complaint is simply that it cost me money for one pair of glasses.

You are — if you’re climbing Universal Credit in the UK — allowed two pairs of spectacles for free.

I need three*: so had to pay for the cheapest pair.

As cheap as they were?

That still leaves me a little short for the month.

Still … ?

It does allow me to see, day to day.

There’s an upside: however tight the rest of this month may be.

Right … I’m assuming you’ve seen the news?

If you haven’t, Russell T. Davies — the producer who successfully revived Doctor Who, back in 2005 — has been reappointed as show runner: in something of an unprecedented move.

I have to admit, I’m in two minds.

On the one hand … ?

The man was instrumenting in the show’s revival: and responsible for what’s seen as a golden age.

A second Davies era could well be a good idea.

On the other hand … ?

It could well be a creative step backwards.

After all, the show has moved forward: both in terms of the story lines, and in the technology.

I think I can say a few things, though.

It’s a safe bet that Christopher Eccleston won’t be back for the show’s sixtieth anniversary.

Given that Eccleston’s relationship with his immediate superiors is known to have been rocky.

I always think that we can scrub most of the bookies favourites for the role of the Fourteenth Doctor.

With the possible exception of Olly Alexander.

As I think the new actor could well come from the company that worked with Davies on It’s a Sin, or Years and Years, as Alexander did.

I was also thinking — last night — that Lydia West was a possible contender for either 14th Doctor, or as a new companion.

Although, in the cold light of day, and given her other commitments?

That seems less likely.

Frankly?   And come 2023, when Davies is scheduled to take over?

That’s when we find out …

I’ve got them in the freezer — at least, got the fish in the freezer — already.

One is that the weather out looks terrible.

I think we can safely say Autumn’s coming.

Another … ?

Is that I’ve got a meeting today: with the Shaw Trust, the guys running the Work and Help Programme I’m on.

It’s not my usual case worker, I should add.

He’s on holiday.

How will it go?

We’ll have to see.

I’ve managed to picked up the blu-ray version of Fury from the Deep: the latest Patrick Troughton story to receive the reanimation treatment.

I’ll tell you what, I wish I’d managed to preorder the thing!

Amazon, itself, was charging £27·99, but have run out: so the third party sellers on the site are charging a fortune!

Which is usually why I have a shower when I get in.

Yep: I’ve got today — and tomorrow — off.

Given the finances?

That’s not something I’m entirely pleased about, as, to keep the weekly wages up, I have to use up my holiday pay.

Annoyed?

Yes.

I’m also STILL aware that next week’s rota has STILL not been posted.

I have alerted my agency, understandable, still convinced it’s a horrible mistake, still waiting to hear from the relevant manager … 

We’ll have to see …

Post The Bodyguard?

Post The Bodyguard, the BBC’s News channel — or rather, Lizo Mzimba, the BBC News Entertainment correspondent — is given airtime to the premiere of The Woman Who Fell To Earth’s premiere, yesterday, in Sheffield.

I’d not’ve minded being at that.

At ANY rate, we’re getting coverage … 

We’ve got an airdate … 

But we still have no bloody story time … !

Apple have finally released macOS Mojave, the most recent version of its Mac operating system.

Which I managed to download, yesterday.

Download … but not yet install.

As I’ve got a couple of days off, the installation is something I can take my time over.

After I’ve done the usual back-ups, downloading of software, and what have you.

I’ve updated before now, am confident about doing these things …

But, as ever … ?

Am bloody nervous about it.

Wouldn’t you know it … ?

A Lighting Cable is Apple’s proprietary charging cable for it’s many devices: iPhone, iPad, iPod, its bluetooth mice and keyboards … 

And the remote for the AppleTV!

OK, I’ve found the cheap spare I picked up a while ago.

But quite where the original is?
