Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 25-9-2025 — Down In The Park

25th September, 2025: Down in the Park.

There are times when I love myself.

Which is always a suspicious phrase, I think: very ambiguous, I think!

There’s times when I don’t love myself.

Or, at least, hate something I’ve seen.

I caught the last episode of Alien: Earth, last night: an episode called “The Real Monsters”.

It has a deeply ambiguous ending: one I found frustrating, as it offered no clear resolution.

With no second season confirmed?

It’s not a note I was expecting to finish on.

Sometimes … ?

I hate it when the situation is awkward.

I hate when circumstances force me to get up early.

Like today.

My Job Centre case worker’s decided I should attend a mentoring event, today: one that starts at ten in the morning.

So that means I’m up early to get this post done.

It’s a horrible time to be awake, I know that!

Oh, JUST in case you like unboxing videos?

I’ve done an unboxing video … !

I can only hope it’s an exciting one … !

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        25th September, 1890, saw the US president sign an act into law: that founded a national park.   Which national park: the Everglades, Mammoth Cave or Sequoia?

Q2)        The largest tree in the Park is the General Sherman.   It’s a what: Giant Sequoia, Jeffrey Pine or ponderosa pine?

Q3)        The park is in which US state?

Q4)        The Tokopah Falls are in the park.   The falls are a what: mountain range, waterfall or tree?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The tallest point in the contiguous United States is a mountain in the Park.   Which mountain: Mount Versteeg, Mount Whitney or Mount Young?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The Second Council of Nicaea assembled on 24th September, AD787: in the Hagia Sophia church in İznik.   That church is now a what: synagogue, mosque or gurdwara?
A1)        A mosque.

Q2)        The Second Council was a what council: a ecumenical council, a municipal council or a workers council?
A2)        A ecumenical council.

Q3)        24th September, 1890, saw the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints renounce what: polygamy, baptism or ordination?
A3)        Polygamy.

Q4)        The AEC Routemaster was introduced on 24th September, 1954.   The Routemaster was a double decker what?
A4)        Bus.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Guru Ram Das was born on 24th September, 1534.   He was the fourth leader of which religion?
A5)        Sikhism.
Here’s a thought …
“The park was established on September 25, 1890, and today protects 404,064 acres (631 sq mi; 163,519 ha; 1,635 km²) of forested mountainous terrain.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the Park.
A song …

And a Gary Numan tune …

The next ten question set is tomorrow: it’s about T. S. Eliot.

Your comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

Hopefully, Olga, you’ll have a chance to put your feet up, come Saturday!   And try not to lose your mother!
I’ll tell you the other thing that helps my feet, Olga: a nice warm shower.   Warm water from that seems to be more useful than a warm bath.   Why, I don’t know.

‡        Yes, she would, wouldn’t she, Debbi?   The phrase goes back to the Profumo trial, back in the 1960s.   The prosecution said to Mandy Rice-Davies, one of the defendants, that a famous lord denied having an affair with her.   She replied “Well, he would, wouldn’t he?”.   Several decades later, we have ‘MRDA’, ‘Mandy Rice-Davies applies’.   Feel free to swipe that!
There’s a new version of the Routemaster doping the rounds: a hybrid, diesel/electric version.   I believe they’re Seen as safer than the bendy buses.

I hope the workshop goes well today. As for Saturday, we'll see. The event I'm covering in the afternoon is a celebration of an organisation that coordinates several cooperatives in the district, and the main thing is a "political act", so... Well, I hope I get to speak to somebody pleasant, because my experience with some of the people who work and organise cooperatives is that they seem to think everybody else does things in the wrong way and have no education (political, I mean). Perhaps they see the world as "us and them", and probably for very good reasons.
